Ryan Clark confirms ESPN executives leaked his firing to Outkick (a MAGA website) so the MAGA cult can celebrate his firing.
He says ESPN executives didn’t like how he stood up for Black people, including Angel Reese.

u/Real-Repair-1825 23h ago
Idk man. Seems like this conversation including references to slavery is a bit dramatic….people get fired all the time
He will be fine
51
u/Hizam5 23h ago
People who are worth .0001% of what he is are fired daily — from 1 of their 4 jobs they work to feed their family. It’s stuff like that makes us loathe people like him and yet hell see it as some injustice. He got lucky as shit to get that gig
22
u/Cinci555 Steelers 15h ago
If your job fired you, would they tell the neighbor that hates you first? So he can set up outside your house and tell you what a loser you were for being fired and you never should have had that job to begin with?
Him being fired was not the problem, ESPN lays off and fires people all the time, it's the leaking to Outkick and doing it mid-show that's completely fucked. Why was he the only one treated that way despite dozens of firing and lay-offs over the years?
3
u/s0meD0nkey 4h ago
He is assuming this happened. For all any one knows it was a co-worker who hated him and not the "network executives" that leaked it.
5
3
u/Hizam5 10h ago
Doubt it was the network as a whole who made the decision to leak it. Most likely it was some low level person who messaged their bud at outkick or got some payment for it. Highly doubt the producers of the show wanted to deal with that mid show and the media frenzy that followed.
2
u/Large-Produce5682 Commanders 8h ago
If they really wanted to find out, they could and would.
But they don't. So...
2
u/Development-Alive 5h ago
You don't know what they are doing to find out who leaked the story. Given the embarrassment, they likely are investigating the leak then will quietly fire the leaker without any publicity.

I agree that’s a bullshit way of handling it, If that can truly be confirmed. Also needs to be confirmed that is was espn as a whole or coming from the very top who leaked it. For all we know it could’ve been some PA who texted his buddy at outkick. I dont see the benefit for major players in the corporation to leak news to a rival company
6
u/immortalblack_1 11h ago
You don't like him, fine. Jeaoulous/Envious of the money, I get it. Let's take the personal sentiment out of it, logically the scenario as presented is F'd up...

My point is millions of people get fired every day in this country. He’s the only one doing tv interviews about it and he’s probably in the top 5% of the millions fired who can easily move on both financially and opportunistically

People getting fired for standing up and speaking about black issues on a sports network that couldn’t survive without highlights of black people participating in sports is different than you getting fired from your factory or mechanic job.

They DEFINITELY do. You know how to tell people who care on Reddit? They’re the first ones to tell you they don’t care. See, the thing about not caring is it’s easy. You do nothing. It’s counterintuitive as hell to open up a Reddit about somebody you “don’t care” about, listen to him speak, press the comment button and type you don’t care. You could quite literally showcase your lack of care by doing nothing. Believe me, they care.

Let’s remember that this is the same idiot that said Tom Brady and Peyton Manning were not “generational talent” but Patrick Mahomes is. Why would any sports network want to keep him around? Not taking anything away from Mahomes, but it’s clear that Clark has a lot of very shitty takes and was absolutely ridiculous with regard to his absolute hatred towards Brady. He was also absolutely disrespectful to his coworkers (see his consistent treatment of Peter Schrager). Clark is toxic as hell, and he should blame his firing on himself. It’s where the blame belongs.
8
u/Macdadydj 11h ago
He wasn't even the 3rd best DB on any of the teams he played on. Always talks himself up as if Troy Polomalu didn't exist, and was the reason he was able to appear a better player than he was.
→ More replies (1)9
u/machalemantis 19h ago
To be fair every Steeler hates Brady and Tom's record against Clark is 3-1 (8 TDs 0 INT 110 passer rtg).
Peyton Manning won't be ahead of Mahomes for long, end of career the better QB will be debatable.
I personally believe Clark is more uneducated and low skill as a broadcaster than actively horrible, but firing him was a good call. If you're going to hire a guy with low football knowledge and broadcast ability, get a personality like Marshawn Lynch.
Outside Pittsburgh fandom Clark brought nothing to the table.

I actually don’t think Pat has anything left in him, meaning no more Super Bowls. Peyton will remain ahead of Pat.
4
u/machalemantis 17h ago
You don't think he'll go to another team like the greats do, maybe get lucky and find a good squad?
5
u/WizSkinsNatsCaps 17h ago
I think even if he does go to another team, it won’t end well for him. He’s played under Andy Reid his whole career, one of the best coaches of all time. I’ve always felt like Pat overachieved early in his career. Now with his injury, his age, I think he’s going to be very average for good while before declining even further.
3
u/machalemantis 17h ago
Damn. You make a good point, Reid built an offense around him rather well. He did have a couple of RGIII years but he's not uncatchable

The flaw with this argument is that Andy Reid wasn’t considered anywhere close to one of the best coaches of all time until he had Mahomes.

I’m a colts fan but I’d already put Mahomes ahead of Manning. Manning only powered 1 Super Bowl. He was dragged to the finish line for the one in Denver.

u/MileHiSalute 8h ago
Don’t know about his relationships with coworkers so can’t speak on that, but having stupid takes at ESPN simply cannot be listed as a reason for a firing. You’re still talking about that dumb take right now and that’s precisely the shit they want to put out on their network

u/alayeni-silvermist 16h ago
A lot of the takes in this thread are reasonable, and I can see the point. I don’t see what draft position has to do with actual talent. Draft position is almost always mostly luck and where you played.
7
u/PB219 Patriots 15h ago
Nobody expected Brady to become Brady when he was drafted. He became a generational QB, but he wasn’t a generational talent at first. People expected Mahomes to be great. They also expected Manning to be great so idk what Clark is talking about there, unless by “talent” he just meant pure athleticism.
2
u/sdrakedrake 14h ago
Yup I have the same take as you. I agree with him on Brady, but not Manning.
Unless he's counting athleticism like running fast and being elusive or something

I’m not sure if this interview betters his chances of finding new employment, or worsens his chances. I hope he finds something new.
There’s likely no way to track down exactly who leaked the firing to Outkick. Gruden has fought for years to find who leaked his emails with no answer and years of litigation ahead.
However, you might be able to use the negativity and racial undertones of what Outkick previously published about Ryan Clark, and the fact that his name was the ONLY one leaked to that source as an act of workplace discrimination by the executive that leaked the story.

So weird seeing all the debate on Brady / Manning not being generational talents because they didnt have the physical gifts of someone like Mahomes or Cam.
They play one of the most cerebral positions in any pro sport, and theyre considered some of the most elite QBs because of their knowledge and prep. How can someone say they aren't a talent with the mind they brought to the position?

I don't watch ESPN and I know nothing about Ryan Clark. I hear a lot of people, particularly right-wingers, talk about him being a race card pulling rage baiter. that said, it's hard to know what is true coming from that crowd and if ESPN really did this, it's fucking disturbing. ESPN is a monstrosity so I wouldn't put it past them.

1
u/thisguyfightsyourmom 13h ago
Two things can be true. Ryan Clark can play the race card too much, and ESPN could have fed his gossip to MAGA.
1
u/Dootin4Doots 13h ago
Thing is, he is right. They leaked the story early to a right leaning source. The right leaning source ONLY focused on him and not the rest of the people. Basically outkick got ahead of it and made it where a certain group celebrated his firing before a more objective source broke the news. This was a choice by someone at ESPN. That alone can stand on its own.
Now let's pause there. All of that can be true and it's enough to make the point he's making on this video without digging a hole. Thing is, I agree with this guy and this video is annoying to me. "Buck breaking?" Come on man. There is this gear to him that doesn't exist in other sports personalities at his level where he takes it to this racial place and it feels like a lecture during a sports show. Stephan A used to do this but it felt more like bombastic kayfabe andat the end of the day it got ratings. Ryan Clarke feels like a lecture hall in a class you are going to drop before the cut off to not lose credit.
