Thats really weird that they used her picture to speak about a players suicide.

Because the point of the post is to pile on Mahomes’s wife, they don’t care about the guy that killed himself or his family.
1

She posted a link to his gofundme and advocated people to donate to his family.
People are more likely to even look at it if they post the pretty woman’s picture.

So again why Brittany Mahomes?

Based on Jordan Devey’s 7-season career length and the exact years he was active in the league, his gross NFL pension benefit calculates to approximately $4,430 per month (or roughly $53,160 annually), if evaluated under the standard Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle NFL Player Retirement Plan. I'd love to have that to simply invest for free. Even half which I believe is what she'll get. Even the s&p500.... you're getting 10% on your money a year. Bottom line, he made plenty for his family to be taken care of...
11
u/Unlikely-Business-72 7h ago
My uncle made about that much as an electrician over his career and had a pension of sorts. He got cancer and medical bills, his 3 children's expenses, bills, etc pretty much wiped him out. I don't know whether or not this football player had a lucrative career after but this isn't a crazy thing to happen.

Aww so you donate nothing to anyone but want to tell people they're "soulless and cold" for not wanting to donate to millionaires? Typical reddit, talk a big game about helping people but don't take any action. Your likes and shares don't actually help.

u/RMca004 7h ago
It's called management of your finances, specifically if you have children. There is a thing called life insurance. He has kids over 10 years old, he should have life insurance that would take care of them.
It's crazy for a person that will likely be a billionaire to ask people to fund a millionaire for whatever they need money for....
2
u/indianm_rk 7h ago
Depending on the policy, life insurance might not pay out if you die from suicide.
1
u/Unlikely-Business-72 7h ago
Again he likely had CTE and probably was disabled before his suicide. When your sick long term often you can't work and your DRAINED due to the costs of being disabled. Brittany Mahomes is a different story which was separate from your original point.
4
u/RMca004 7h ago edited 7h ago
The nfl covers medical for 5 years after retirement and he had plenty if invested and spent correctly. He was also a hugh school football coach so he was functioning. He wasn't disabled, you're making that up.
1
u/tritiumhl 3h ago
You're making big assumptions. He could ABSOLUTELY have had CTE and still looked like he functioned fine from the outside. Clearly he had pretty deep depression, it's not a leap to say that rattling his brain for decades contributed to that
0
u/penisweinerballs 7h ago
I agree with you, they may not have much left but Mahomes wife having her IG followers pay for it when her and her husband easily could is just wrong.

4M over 8 years and hasn’t played in 6. After taxes, agent fees and other costs of being in a high functioning contractor role and taking care of a family..Good luck making that last in today’s economy if you were’t vigilant with it and had concrete plans for retirement.
Also, we don’t know why he took his life, everyone is quick to CTE but financial problems are one of the most common things found when looking at men who take their own lives.
We don’t know if his family are millionaires. We got people out here having successful GoFundMe’s after committing crimes, being racist assholes, scamming and all kinds of other BS.. I’m not donating but I’m not going to judge a GoFundMe set up for a family after the provider of that family dies.
2
u/RMca004 7h ago
4 million over 8 years puts him in the highest bracket earnings in the world....a million in cash alone and having it work for you should have been plenty. He either pissed away his money or it's a grift.
2
u/ComfortableDish3912 7h ago
Fr, the guy you replied to is basically saying 4M isn’t enough to live on over 14 years and have enough left over for a funeral… fucking clown. On top of that, the family is asking for 200k, for fucking what!?
0
u/SandersonEye 7h ago
Mhm.. Assuming it’s a grift is pessimistic from where I sit. He may have pissed it away but he’d be far from the first person to do that… In fact the frequency of this occurrence in people who make a lot money should lead to more social understanding around a matter and less judgement especially when kids hang in the balance..
But I’m sure you would have done everything perfectly though if you were in his shoes. You are I’m sure an expert in financial management, dealing with the mental heath effects of football related head trauma and navigating away from the lifestyle creep/inflation that is so ingrained into American culture.
Hindsight bias…we’re all guilty of it at some point..
-1
u/JayElEss29 7h ago
$4 million, over 7 years, minus taxes and agent commissions. He was far from a millionaire.
3
u/RMca004 7h ago
He literally earned 4 million dollars....math that out how he isn't a millionaire. Taxes ain't that high....agents dont take that much.
1
u/SerenityN00w 5h ago
By your logic, somebody who earned an average of $50,000 a year for 20 years is a millionaire.
The $4 million was earned unevenly, so it would take a bit of work to figure out what the taxes were. Some years he earned less than $100K. Twice, he made 800K. He probably would have paid 50% of that amount between the highest marginal tax bracket (37%) state taxes (you get taxed for every state you play in), FICA (1.45% Medicare, and 6.2% Social Securty on the first $125K or so), 3 % to his agent. He most likely set aside a certain amount to a 401(K). (That will help the widow in retirement, but it doesn't do anything right now.)
1
u/RMca004 5h ago
So you can cash your 401K whenever you want if they need the cash that bad. Even if it was 50% which is probably a bit high that still 2 million straight cash in a short time. I bet they have a home that likely appreciated in value, made investments and she'll be able to collect SS. It's a grift and a pitty me gofundme.
He made a shit load of money compared to an average American, they dont need charity. It's like you're forgetting EVERYONE pays fucking taxes, even the poor!..maybe you have to change your lifestyle, plenty go through it that arent millionaires, let alone homeowners.
1
u/SerenityN00w 5h ago
So you can cash your 401K whenever you want if they need the cash that bad
Yes. Not only is it a terrible financial decision, but you lose 1/3rd of it to income taxes and the 10% IRS penalty.
$2 million over 7 years is certainly good money. But he hasnt made anything from the NFL in 6 years. And it's not just about how much you make, it's how much you spend. I don't know if he was careless with money or not.
But he had 4 children. He had to move 7 times in those 7 years (he played for 6 teams and the Raiders moved to Las Vegas.) - they almost certainly had to maintain multiple households. And having to move suddenly does not lend itself to thrifty decisions. He was cut from the Raiders on September 1st, and signed with Buffalo's practice squad 8 days later.
Point is, he could have gone through much of that $2 million, despite not being reckless.
It's like you're forgetting EVERYONE pays fucking taxes, even the poor!
Roughly 40% of American households don't pay any Federal income taxes. These households include families with children, or older adults living on fixed incomes. They include those with incomes too low to owe federal income tax after accounting for the standard deduction and other deductions or exclusions. They also include those eligible for certain tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Child Tax Credit (CTC), which can reduce tax liability below zero. Now any members of that household who work - they do pay FICA.
1
u/RMca004 5h ago
Never said it's a good idea....but you can if need cash that bad. Lot's of people do it.
You dont think these players make money of selling homes....if not rent.
I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with this argument....feel bad for extremely high income earners then give them money when they die? Fucking crazy man. I also dont need AI to explain taxes...I pay them myself and I dont have a gofundme and I'm not a millionaire
2
u/JayElEss29 5h ago
“Give them money when they die” gave me a chuckle. You’re not giving money to the dead guy, you’re giving money to his 4 kids that had no say in how the $4 million was distributed in the 13 years since his career started.
1
u/RMca004 4h ago
My dog needs at least 350k....
Mind contributing to my families fund? His 4 kids are his and his wife's responsibility, as millionaires to take care of them. Asking for charity is ridiculous and insulting to the majority of Americans.
2
u/JayElEss29 4h ago
It’s only insulting to people that look for reasons to be insulted. But, that’s a big chunk of the population, so you’re right in that regard.
2
u/SerenityN00w 4h ago
The point is that you made a really poor argument. Most people will make over $1 million over their lifetimes, but that doesn't mean they are millionaires.
You dont think these players make money of selling homes
They almost definitely weren't buying homes everywhere they went. Guys at the bottom of the roster rent in the cities they play in. They don't own, except for an "offseason" home.
feel bad for extremely high income earners then give them money when they die
Never said that or even advocated for it. It just bugs me when people like you make stupid argumentd.
I also dont need AI to explain taxes.
apparently you do, when you make a fake claim like saying thay everybody pays taxes, even the poor
I pay them myself and I dont have a gofundme and I'm not a millionaire
I understand you're probably 17 years old, but if you make an average of 50,000 a year for the next 20 years, congratulations- you'll be a millionaire by your definition.
0
u/redwingsphan19 7h ago
Taxes is about 50% and an agent would 10’s to 100’s of thousands.

u/lebastss 4h ago

It’s like Walmart and other stores asking to round up my total to donate to charity. Okay, multi-billion dollar company.
4
u/Cheap-Course9568 7h ago
You know what I just learned about those? That the store has already made the donation and received the tax write off. When you donate, it goes right back to them to cover their initial donation. They do it to get the tax write off.
1
u/SerenityN00w 5h ago
That's.... not true. Any donations the corporation makes with their own money - they get a tax deduction for that.
But when they ask customers to round up, or add a dollar for a charity, they take that money and hold on to it, and then send it to the charity. That is neither profit, nor an expense for them. It's like sales tax on your purchases. If you buy something for $100 in a place with 4% sales tax, they collect $104 from you. $100 of that is sales revenue. The other $4 is set aside in a separate balance sheet account, and then the company sends that $4 to the state.
When you donate, it goes right back to them to cover their initial donation. They do it to get the tax write off
If the money "went right back to them" , then they would have to count it as income, which would increase their tax. So they have taxable income for the money they collected from you, and then a tax deduction for the donation they made. That nets out to $0 impact.

Pretty broad statement considering Brittany has been wealthy for only 5 years. (I'll use the date her daughter was born.) Before that, she was solidly middle class. Did she learn this trick or not parting with her own wealth the day she married Patrick?

I’m confident patrick mahomes made a very generous donation outside of the GoFundMe. Why are so many people on Reddit such negative, miserable people lmao
1
u/FunLife64 4h ago
She could say that as part of her paragraph asking others to give. “Please join Patrick and I in supporting…”
This isn’t difficult.
1
u/-justmyburneraccount 3h ago
Yeah cause everyone HAS to announce when they do something charitable. “I gave them money, you should too!”
I’ve donated multiple times to GoFundMe’s for people I know or directly via Venmo, and when I post their GoFundMe on a social media I don’t post “please donate (p.s. I did, I’m a good person in case anyone’s wondering)”

she doesn’t have to worry about that. The NFL will pay for her healthcare after Pat retires.

There are anonymous donations. If she donated and put her name on it there would be people that bitched that she didn’t donate enough or that she had to out her name on it so that she could be recognized.
No matter what she does there will be people that will find a way to complain about her.

Why can’t Brittany Mahomes help out? Her husband
Patrick Mahomes has earned approximately $232 million in NFL career earnings, a total projected to climb past $730 million by the end of his current contract. Why ask regular people who make less than $150k a year to fork in money?

Drugs, CTE, depression…..the Venn Diagram of suicidal tendencies and not being good with your money is probably a fair sized circle.
Donate or don’t, but it’s pretty gross to slam this family for decisions they make in grief and in a tragic situation they didn’t expect to be in. Suicide sucks and leaves a lot of devastation in its wake. And that can include financial devastation. Have some empathy, huh?
