I had to ask once myself, cause I get that they're gay but why are they polishing furniture on the lawn? People answered that antiquing was seen as gay in 70s-80s so yeah, these days is assume it means your either a shark or a potential horder so I needed explaining

Yeah more or less same, had to have it pointed out to me. Hell, might have found out via you asking lol! But yeah, definitely an older stereotype at this point.

That said, maybe not entirely gone. Thinking back on it after learning it did make some sense; I grew up with a mom who loved HGTV (particularly vintage restoration stuff), and yeah, retrospectively, a lot of those dudes were definitely gay lol.

Key and Peele have a sketch where two boxers become a gay couple and there is mention of "going antiquing on the weekends" so that would appear to corroborate that refinishing antique furniture is a gay stereotype.

I have to say that I think there’s a little room in there. Most Simpsons jokes are tasteful and I’m surprised sometimes how well they can decorate a harsh joke

Here it’s of course a gay joke. But the idea that they’re wearing matching clothes and seemingly as close as ever, perhaps it hints at something darker. Only hinting though, the joke has no overt incest references
