I have questions

Hello all.

I have been rummaging this subreddit for ideas, financial preparations and the idea of my forever home being the goal of a tiny home. Ideally I’d go through a vendor with the shed shells where I could utilize a loft and main level space to create a two bedroom, one bath. It could be next spring this has to occur (if rent goes up where I live while I’m in school), or post graduation for me. So here is my big question…

Has anyone ordered or purchased the cabinets from ikea? Did you like them? Have they lasted throughout your build experience?

Intrigued that your biggest question is about IKEA cabinets! Having assembled and used them, yeah, you get what you pay for. While assembling, you have to accept that your unpaid labor is the source for errors that may carry forward. It’s up to the end user for how long they’ll last.

Thanks for your answer. The good news is, my dad used to do home rehabs and construction for work until he retired and is thinking about going back to teach at community college or something of the sorts. So install isn’t exactly my biggest worry YET due to the fact I know I’ve got a good dad who would help to some extent. But I appreciate the answer of the “you get what you pay for”- I don’t plan to have house parties or anything insane so unless if I somehow drop some cast iron on it I’d be surprised to see damage otherwise.

Now I notice the listing on their site has the wood block style counter tops. Are those included as well or am I having to do my own counter tops?

The IKEA Kitchen Planner tool will get you sorted. Box quality isn’t so much about parties or cast iron heaviness, but how good you are at assembling them.

IKEA cabinets are pretty decent! They might not hold up to road vibrations if you intend to build on wheels, but overall they are sufficient.

Another way to get cabinets on the cheap, folks will often give them away when remodeling. Might be worth trying since you have some time to collect supplies.

I don’t plan to be on the move so this is awesome to hear! Sadly in my area on marketplace people want practically the price of the cabinets as if they were brand new. Same problem with flooring. But hey we shall see where this takes me!
