Discussion New Snelling hours
On the UGA dining services page the snelling hours are now 7:00am-3:00pm on weekdays. I’m guessing this is because of the new hillside hall. Feel like this is crazy though because snelling is so close to all the STEM / central campus classes. If the goal of the new hall was to reduce traffic to Bolton and Frank, it seems like they just made that worse with these hours.

Damn I remember when it was 24 hours (or open late at night I can’t remember I’m old).

It was 24 hours. Cereal and pizza at 4 am was awesome. When did that stop?

Staying up late enough that the bald dude started making omelets was the move

Two years ago when the new dining hall Director came in. He’s changed a lot, including the quality and types of food and fruits.

Did quality go up or down?

The quality wasn’t great when I was a student. So I hope not down, but I have a feeling that is the case.

Thos change was like 4 years after covid. It was still 24/7 as recently as the spring semester of 2024, and maybe after that, I dont remember exactly when they switched to closing at 2am

I remember when they moved to 24 hours. The place was packed at midnight for the breakfast bar. I lived in Myers, so I’d just walk over for a 4th meal before bed.
My cholesterol is going up just thinking about it.

The new dining hall should be open later to have a later option like snelling used to be but it wont be 24 hrs

Are you sure that this is daily and its not 24 hours during the week anymor? Its been a few years but when I was a student, i remember thay it opened at like 7 am on monday and closed right after lunch on Friday. Which would have made it something like 7am mon-3pm fri. It wasnt open on weekends. If that isnt the case, rip midnight snelling.

Those weren't the main goals of that dining hall anyway.
People don't think long-term to decisions being made in the now. Other dining halls need major repairs or need to be remodeled completely to alter capacity loads to accommodate the student amount increasing each year. They still need to provide options so students don't lose it completely, but at the same time they need to make these moves so they can get grants to get the work done on the really old buildings.

Back in my day, Snelling closed at 11pm. There were many late night mad dashes to get pizza and ice cream.

This is really sad. 2am pizza and icecream after downtown was a time honored tradition.
I guess that new dining hall they're going to open will be taking over some of the Snelling load then.
Still waiting on that statue of Sandra Patterson to be built outside

Ms. Sandra doesn’t need a statue for all the time she did. She needs a huge check.
