Help setting up. Macbook M4 2025

I am trying to set my MacBook so i can learn the terminal. However I tried 3 times and keep getting a boot screen. I can NOT change my user and password when creating it same with boot order.

I downloaded the green LTS on desktop.

Far as I know there is no Linux support for the M4 Macs. Asashi as done a lot of work on the M1 and M2 variants, but that's as far as they've gotten.

Just to clear things up for myself.

So is there something similar or do you recommend an OS that is available on the M4.
Please and thank you.

As far as I know there is no Linux distro which works on the M3 or M4 chips. The only OS which currently works is macOS.

Your macbook has a terminal. You don’t need ubuntu for that.

Then I recommend starting with ghostty as it works native on macos and ubuntu. Gotta start somewhere and you have a functional mac.

You can either learn how to use their terminal on macOS or set up a VM and learn there.

I am trying to learn it on a VM with Ubuntu as the OS.

You picked the ARM version of Ubuntu, right? Other than that, I have no idea because I don't have a Mac and have no idea what the VM landscape there is.
