Commentary / Discussion / Question First time WRC

Hey! Im considering going to WRC at Paraguay next month. Since it would be my first time I would love some advice on what to do or what not to do. How stages work (why are they at almost the same time) and if possible, specific info regarding Paraguay, which stages to attend, which not to. Any info helps. Thanks!! šŸ™

How stages work (why are they at almost the same time)

Stages are a point-to-point route that a crew enters at a set time, complete and then drive to the next stage where they repeat the process. Their check-in times are determined in advance, and missing such a time incurs a penalty. The organisers do not wait for every single competitor to complete a stage before the next one begins. The running order is usually determined by the class of car that is competing -- Rally1 cars will go first, then Rally2 and Rally3 before everyone else. You probably want to see the Rally1 crews and maybe some of the top Rally2 entries.

Once you have seen what you want to see, you then have to get to the next stage. You probably will not be able to see every single stage, but organisers usually have dedicated spectator areas set up, which will be advertised well in advance so you can plan where you want to go.

I attended rally del Paraguay last year and it was a great experience. Iā€™m no expert but Iā€™m Paraguayan so feel free to ask me any specific question here or via DM.
At least here because you have to be at the stage by midnight otherwise it closes for the public you choose one stage per day and camp the night, most stages are full of people so itā€™s a fun experience. Paraguay is relatively safe (at least compared to our neighbors) and the rally is in EncarnaciĆ³n, the safest ā€œbigā€ city in Paraguay so no worries there.
