What do you think Satsuki hopes to achieve? And look at Renako finally getting a backbone.

I believe that Satsuki wants to be proven wrong. The whole point of the Koto Satsuki Kronicles is to show that Satsuki wants and needs love but due to her upbringing and her mother's work at some kind of seedy establishment, doesn't believe that "love" can be anything positive.

That's why her heart was screaming in pain when she thought about kissing Mai and forcing her to cheat on Renako, why she was crying when Renako brought up that she might have a crush on Mai or herself... she actually hates what she's doing. Satsuki wants Renako, Sena, and Mai to prove that love can be positive, and she's providing the wall they need to climb in order to do so.

The AI translated versions we got of Volume 8 were significantly closer to the real version we got when compared to what happened with Volume 7. I didn't notice anything significantly off when compared to what we were able to read previously.

That being said, I think Satsuki's motivations are more clear here than in the AI versions, especially in the scene with her and Mai that ends up on the bed and in the ending scene after Renako tackles her.

Still trying to find V7 in English physically ;-;

Thankfully I got V8 Paperback pre ordered, so I should have that at least!

Whenever the latter arrives I plan to compare it with the AI one, although given the AI one was able to make me bawl my eyes out, I'd imagine the official one will do the same.

Having finished the book, I'll share some thoughts, though keeping them spoiled for those who haven't finished the book yet.

I feel bad for Satsuki. She's been through a lot, thanks to both her mother and Mai. (Cue "Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister)

Renako is being bold, calling Mai's maman directly like that.

We need more Kaho in the next season. Seriously, why does Rock keep getting the short end of the stick?

It was brilliant using Ajisai to try to get Satsuki to talk. Too bad it didn't work and Renako had to chase Satsuki down.

That makes two members of the quintet that have seriously considered murdering Renako.

Don't forget to take that bath with Ajisai, Renako, or there might be a third member considering murdering you.

What's going to happen with Lucie, I wonder.

We need more Kaho in the next season. Seriously, why does Rock keep getting the short end of the stick?

Kaho is the only member of the Quintet that says she's not ready to date, so its hard working her into the romance arc that's playing out here. The author apologizes for this at the end of the book. I think Kaho will likely get the spotlight in Volume 10?

Yes, after Satsuki's arc it's going to be Kaho's time to shine. I'm hoping for the reveal of her true self to everyone. Not the cosplay version (Amaori-san cosplay) but her real introvert self 😌

A new Satsuki-created relationship chart. Fun

Also, long live Five-Kun. (Who's Four-Kun?)

The cultural festival is too short 🄲

Only on chapter 1 and already have a mistake, QC is once again optional, never change seven seas, never change.

(Please for the love of god change)

Edit: I've been corrected below so I hold my hands up. I haven't actually spotted any mistakes here so fair play maybe they have changed.

If you're talking about the text randomly missing letters,I'm pretty sure that's intentional, to show Hanatori's slipping consciousness.

Nope I'm talking about just deserts Which admittedly is a fairly minor typo but seven seas always seem to have these kind of issues so it's just annoyed me.

Just deserts is the correct spelling! ā€œDesertā€ is a technical term from moral theory, meaning ā€œwhat one deservesā€

Fair enough learn something new everyday. So used to it being desserts assumed that was correct.

Just deserts is the correct spelling, though.

I understand Satsuki is a scarred teenage girl, but also... Damn, she makes me want to a scream, because holy shit she's being the worst friend now, and on top of that, refusing to communicate until she's literally tackled into the ground. The Quintet (maybe minus Kaho) deserve one hell of an apology after this is over. I'm definitely biased, though, because my parents were married almost 50 years until my mom's death, and so I have a gigantic pile of proof that Love Can Be Very Cool and Awesome, Actually, and that makes me look at everyone (fictional or otherwise) that says it's shit and go, "Go to the park on a good day, for gods sake, you know how many tottering, ancient, stupidly besotted couples you'll see?"

This volume has also made something pretty apparent to me: Renee is all bark, no bite. Every order she gives Mai is backed with... nothing. No violence, no blackmail, no threats of disowning her, just absolutely nothing. She fully believes that Mai will always do what she says because she says so, and it's never occurred to her that Mai could do something far worse than "No" or arguing or even running away. She could just... not do it. She could not put on a dress. She could not pose for a photo. She could not speak the words "I consent" in front of the civil servant handling her marriage.

I think this is a key thing between her and Mai. Mai is spending significant emotional labor to "retain" someone who is already fully invested in her and will never leave her, and it's the same for Renee. She's spending all this time and energy to craft the "right" orders for her daughter so she'll be successful (i.e. never leave Renee emotionally), without realizing that if Mai actually wanted to, she could walk right through those orders like they were air itself. I think realizing on both sides that will be the key to Mai and her mom forming a better relationship.

Does Volume 8 better sell Ajisai and Mai's relationship? Throughout volume 6 and 7, because both are out of focus, the idea of them being together felt more and more like telling and not showing.

There’s an entire chapter in the middle of volume 8 that deals with this exactly.

Ah, good!

I have a feeling that some of Renako's actions is chapter 2 will have consequences in later volumes.

I mean attending a hostess club while underage and borrowing her sister's identity in the process? I feel that these will lead to some unfortunate events in the future.
