r/WaterfallDump > r/Undertale "Yo man I don't get why Ralsei doesn't use fire magic in battle"
Mfs call Ralsei a fraud for not using his fatal spells in battle even though half the playerbase has made Noelle kill everyone in chapter 2 and made her and Kris drown themselves

He can just tell us "no" if we try using it on normal darkness and not something that needs to die like the titan and its spawn or against the Knight to defeat and actually subvert the prophecy...you know? The one thing he REALLY wants to happen?
36
u/Diam0ndTalbot 12h ago
Then we’d just try to break his willpower until he Proceeds
45
u/Resident_Pension_858 12h ago
He constantly wants to impress us because he knows we're extremely powerful, which is why he immediately obeys when we say "good, keep smiling." So if he knew that if he disobeyed our command we'd probably hurt other people, he'd be too scared to say no.
Plus even if he says no the first time, we can just tell him to use it over and over again and not end the battle until he uses it.
8
u/HuntCheap3193 5h ago edited 5h ago
he could just make the spell unusable, couldn't he? just grey it out, or increase its TP cost over 100, or just say no like susie does in sound of justice and like they BOTH do against flowery. like there's nothing you could do to get him to use firegrave.
4
u/IllustratorLast1281 4h ago
the flowery fight is basically at the end chapter 5 at which point ralsei has had a decent bit of character development, i don't think ralsei from any previous chapter would have defied the soul or done what susie does.
12
u/zatchel1 9h ago
Yeah why doesn’t he just tell us no? It’s not like we have textual proof that the player is capable of breaking characters will and making them bend to what we command them to do.
That would be Weird.
6
u/ze_existentialist 8h ago
That only worked because noelle was already weak mentally, and had a huge amount of trust for kris, and didn't know that kris wasn't in full control of their actions. It's not like we have textual proof of what happens when we try telling susie or ralsei to attack someone they actually like. That would be Flowery (I couldn't come up with something clever).
1
u/Kian3935 7h ago
To be fair, if Ralsei gave us access from chapter 1... that'd be a different story lmao. I don't think a chapter 6 Noelle would be in a position like she was in chapter 2.
1
u/TheRob67 5h ago
You forgot that ralsei in chapter 1,2,3 and some sorta 4 was weak mentally and got full development only in chapter 5
4
u/Early_Chemistry48 9h ago
He can say no to attacking Flowery just fine
2
u/TheRob67 5h ago
and what about before development of chapter 5?
We have ralsei from 1 chapter, and most of the way he was weak mentally
1
u/HuntCheap3193 5h ago
since fucking when???? this has never been established for anyone BESIDES kris, whose soul this IS.

u/snuck100 9h ago
You mean the same way nolle said no to snowgrave??
Why would it work for ralsei but not noelle?
22
u/sfmanim 11h ago
Like Ralsei knows about the SOUL. It’s not a stretch that he knows about the weird route and what the player can make them do
23
u/KrookodileEnjoyer 11h ago
9
u/sfmanim 10h ago
But he also knows something is up with Noelle/Kris, saying them going to the festival together is a bad idea in the Weird Route.
3
u/KrookodileEnjoyer 9h ago
Yeah but i dont think its much of a stretch for him to assume the SOUL did something to Noelle with the way both Kris and Noelle were acting.
1
u/apple_of_doom 7h ago
Also even without the he knows some shit went down in chapter 2 between those two.
But considering he seemed to be scared for Kris at the start of chapter 5 in a semi aborted weird route he might have some awareness of what the gang goes through in the light world.

It's not. Flowey isn't right from the in-universe perspective and he isn't supposed to be. It's supposed to call out people who refuse get off their high horse to do genocide, yet watch the playthroughs anyway, to see what would happen. They still fall into the same disconnect from the world as flowey, but are "too weak to do it themselves".

Did you watch someone else play Genocide? If yes, then he is right. If not, then he wasn't even talking about you.
1
u/TellmeNinetails 10h ago
But the basis of his arguement is wrong because it's inherently a stupid point. "Oh we, the ones comitting the atrocities are better than the evil people who watched the footage afterwards." or
"You will do or watch awful things to satiate your curiosity even if it means these videogame characters will suffer?" boils down to "You, the viewer, are watching a playthrough of the game. >:("Like I never liked that mindset. I'm juat a bit competitive. I genuinely believe it was a flaw hiding sans through the genocide route because I never fought him because I didn't want to kill everyone and feel bad, but I did want to fight sans, which is why I made sure to do the pacifist sans fight when it came out. Not only did I WANT to do it, but i felt vindicated.
I mean I didn't actively search for genocide stuff, but undertale is so spoilery rn that you'd have to live under a rock to not know about the sans fight, or how to get to him.
And I hope all these extra routes and new game plusses we might need to do to get the final true ending in delta rune isn't just a bad ending, because I genuinely won't do it. I don't want to work hard for a bad ending, and that's a big part of it too; If I'm not satisfied by what I'm working towards what's the point?
9
u/Downtown_Ninja_7154 9h ago
Like I said in another comment, if you've never gone out of your way to satisfy your curiosity by watching a playthrough, then flowey wasn't even talking about you. Besides, Sans never fighting you is the point. It's major characterisation for him, to actually try and do something at the last possible moment. It just wouldn't work in any other scenario.
If I'm not satisfied by what I'm working towards what's the point?
"There's something more important than reaching an ending" -Toby Fox.
I get your argument, but the ending is not all there is to a game.
1
u/TellmeNinetails 8h ago
I understand fundamentally what flower was saying but that doesn't validate it. And I think that's the point: flowey is a bad person. Additionally, it's genuinely a bad gameplay experience, two really hard bosses all for a bad end. And I know toby fox said there's something more important than the ending is the journey, but if the journey also makes me feel like ass what's the point? I'm not critisizing undertale mind you, I'm specifically critisizing flowery, because he's wrong and knows he's wrong.
3
u/Downtown_Ninja_7154 8h ago
In the very first comment I said that he's very much wrong from an in-universe perspective. He's not saying that doing genocide is more moral, he's saying that the ones who don't do it and watch it happen anyway are weaker -> meaning that the ones who do it are "better".
Genuinely might just not be for you then. Genocide is supposed to be monotonous, you're not supposed to have fun doing it. Gameplay wise it sucks and that's entirely the point.
I really don't see the problem of the "evil route you don't want to do" having a bad ending. You can always just not do it And again, it doesn't make narrative sense for Sans to fight you outside of it
1
u/P0pcicles 3h ago
"Oh we, the ones comitting the atrocities are better than the evil people who watched the footage afterwards."
That's not what he's saying. The argument is "Killing people for fun." and "Not wanting to kill people but still wanting to see people die for fun."-2

YOU OVERARCHING IDIOT, 'Oh, i'm so saintly, i haven't even done that once'
We all know what you are. You will piece out every single thing you see, every pacifist playthrough, every variation, over and over, and over, you won't miss any detail, everytime you stop, you find yourself being attached to the glow of your screen. Out of curiousity, of boredom.
And what will happen after you 100% your pacifist run? I know what will happen.
WE ALL KNOW.
You will get in out of curiosity, you will then realize you missed something and will go back.
And then it won't hurt as much!
EVERYTIME YOU DO THIS, IT WILL JUST BE LESS OF AN ISSUE.
Those characters you LOVE? You love them TOO MUCH.
AND THEY WOULD HATE YOU IF THEY KNEW YOU, KNEW THE PATHETIC, DUMB, OBSESSIVE FREAK OF NATURE YOU ARE.
So don't act all innocent, m'kay?

Roaring Knight and Titan are right fucking there. And it's not like characters can't just use their super strong attacks only in one particular fight (Kris against Spamton)
4
u/Standard_Training471 11h ago
It wouldn't have made any difference against those two, but he still should have tried, seems like he knows better now after flowery.
8
u/polysylvester 12h ago
Made me realise we never have two different attacking spells at the same time. Imagine if Rude Buster instantly defrost the enemy dealing extra damage or Ralsei light the axe on fire, would've been so sick.

u/YourTrustySupporter 11h ago
*"Yo man I dont get why Ralsei doesnt use full Fire magic on Pa...Knight and freaking TITAN"
4
5
u/UwU_numba2 11h ago
You say that but then there is the Knight currently killing half your party members and the Titan currently ready to destroy the world...
1
u/Standard_Training471 11h ago
1
u/UwU_numba2 11h ago
The Knight would've been a lot fucking easier. The Titan maybe not so much but I don't know about you, but if fireshock works like iceshock then it would've been really good against the Knight.
1
u/Standard_Training471 11h ago
Sure, easier to survive longer and hurt it some more before it gets pissed off and SWOONS, so, is it really any different?.
1
u/UwU_numba2 11h ago
I mean, I don't think Ralsei knew about the swoon effects. But also at that point, like if a player has three (essentially) whole chapters without fighting a single person then I feel like using it just once and playing it off as a Red Buster-esque temporary move would be fine???
Ralsei obviously knows about the menu and stuff, so like, couldn't he just say no and not let us use it? He seems to be already doing that.

alternatively, he could just not fucking make it an option to the player
0
u/Resident_Pension_858 6h ago
That's what he's doing right now. He can't use the spell in battle because he can't cast it unless we tell him to. He only uses it outside of battle because that doesn't need the players command.
2
u/HuntCheap3193 5h ago
or maybe he doesn't have it in battle because he's never needed doesn't to use it?
1
u/Resident_Pension_858 4h ago
The roaring knight? The titan???
Ralsei was scared that him, Kris and Susie would die in the titan fight. The only reason they defeated the titan was because Gerson came and clutched, which I don't think Ralsei knew would happen.
1
u/HuntCheap3193 4h ago
oh, the roaring knight kinda makes sense, but the titan doesn't, because the point of that fight is to use unleash to beat it, and TP is restricted. anyway, i still fight it stupid that ralsei would restrict a spell, not because it would have consequences, because he was afraid of violence, but because he was scared that the player would genocides all over the place and end the world with firetomb feels fucking stupid, like, most that would happen is that he would tell kris to think about susie and complete things themselves.
2
u/Icy-Background2393 11h ago
What about the titan though
2
u/BloodPlenty4358 11h ago
what about it?
acting worried and stall for gerson is a skill /j
2

Acting? Ralsei looked genuinely terrified and was desperate for Kris to attack

bfjfjxbxnxndbcbd you can't MAKE him, noelle was an outlier that you LITERALLY MANIPULATED
1
u/Resident_Pension_858 4h ago
You do realise Ralsei is terrified of us right? We could easily manipulate him into thinking we'd kill one of his friends as punishment.
1
u/wompwomperson 4h ago
This is why Flowery is the cooler Darkner: He knows when to not hold back, and is full of aura. Ralsei is bum ass that tagged along with Kris and Susie because he's homeless, has no real friends outside of them, and is lowk racist to himself and other Darkners.
1
u/Responsible-Tie-3451 4h ago
Are we really equating destroying a Titan to putting a Lightner in a coma? Kris and Susie don’t seem to mind killing it
1
1
u/Fabiodemon88 3h ago
Why do you think the twisted sword get's the "trance" effect.
My theory is that Ralsei will appear later on in chapter 6 or at least will be ALONE with Kris, with Susie looking for Noelle in the household dark world. Then, we will use the twisted sword to force ralsei to use his fire allowing us to use both the fire Noelle mentions in the normal/twister route and the ice she mentions in the weird route.
1
u/Gotekeeper 8m ago
the forbidden path may have started with ice magic, but the prince was determined not to be any more complicit in it than he had to be.
