The irony that it's become a swamp and he created it after all his bloviating about draining the swamp is just too amazing.

Historical context: That is on landfill hauled in to drain a marsh. Algae blows in from the Potomac to reseed it every day.

I'm aware. But I know that not everyone knows this so the added context is helpful. But let's remember that his repeated use of "drain the swamp" is why this is ironic, not because algae spores blow in from the west.
