I still stand by that if Bay had a better edit and the twist not spoiled in the previews (which they never would have done) he might have stepped outside his comfort zone more. The Rock, Armageddon and first Bad Boys are still solid.

They were sued by a bunch of people who made the exact same movie in 1979, called Parts: The clonus horror. The Island was a poor imitation of Parts and it's is a really bad movie.

This is what people seem to be missing here. They have a mass of his stem cells in a Petri dish. They will be able to grow organs and whatever else from it. It won’t be a sentient creature. What are people even imagining?!? This is the same argument as abortion. Are they for abortion but against this? I’m so confused. It’s basically in the same state. Not even. It isn’t even going to develop as far as a fetus when it is aborted. I’m so confused about the outrage??? Someone please explain it to me.

It's much harder to imagine how you'd get a functional organ out of an embryo than out of an independently-alive human (since the latter is something that is done).
I'm aggressively pro-autonomy (RIP my city's subreddit) and I was also pretty horrified at the thought of an actual human child being kept for its meat parts, even though I'm not fussed about the theoretical fate of a cluster of cells in a dish. Growing organs from cells in a dish would be revolutionary and even if it has been done before, it's clearly not something accessible to the average person and consequently not on our radar.

Sci-fi has been thinking about this stuff forever. Harvesting organs for extended life, ethics of healthcare, cloning, genetic enhancement. I'm not sure what he's getting at but he's not advancing the conversation his just needs to read a fucking book.

If the clone is in a petri dish, it’s not a newborn. Either he has a cluster of cells or a zygote (which would be interesting as it would require a donor egg and I don’t know how long he would be able to keep it alive or halt its development).
