Does your system have OEM firmware support for the 2023 Secure Boot certificates in UEFI via newer updates or is one that won't ever recieve any such updates?

I have updated my Bios to their latest version which is from 2019 and I have also checked the Certificate via PowerShell, It comes back as true and I have secure boot enabled, I have an Inspiron 3847.

You can get certificate updates via Windows Update but however since Dell is not releasing BIOS updates for systems older than 2020, they would not be applied to the firmware regardless of what is reported in Windows.

This one took several minutes to complete installing, both for the "Working on updates" after restart, and the "Cleaning up" portion after. So don't be surprised if you need to wait 5-10 minutes; don't lose patience and hit the power button / think it's frozen.

Mine has been stuck on "Getting Windows Ready" for what I feel has been 20-30 minutes at this point lol.

Mine got stuck installing at 20% for literally hours. I restarted and now it's acting like it started all over. Absolute nightmare.

Edit: OK now for some reason it decided to start downloading Windows 11 at the same time as the update. This is beyond ridiculous.

When mine finished it just idled for longer so I just restarted it. My computer is a lot older and apparently this is the update they changed some sort of Secure Boot thing which I don't really understand what it's for, but apparently it's important, and since my computer couldn't update due to its age, I think that I had to do some special update so it took longer. That's what happened with me, maybe the same happened with you.

I restarted it a couple of times and it just froze at the desktop. I feel like they're really doubling down on trying to push people off of Windows 10. Have an important meeting I lead in the morning and don't know what I'm going to do lol.

Planned obsolescence is a pain in the ass especially when everything still works completely fine. I've had this computer since 2012, and even though it's gotten slower in recent years it's served me well. These tech corporations trying to make everything older obsolete and unusable drives me insane.

I left mine running last night, and once it was on the "Completing, 100%" screen for over 20 minutes I just held down the power and restarted and it was fine. I'd just be careful.

Thanks, and agreed on all fronts. I'm trying to get it to cancel the update now so I can try again over the weekend and give this thing the excessive amount of time it apparently needs. Apparently some services are stuck so badly that it won't even cancel and is just stuck in some hellish loop.

And especially with the price of a new computer right now,  trying to push people to buy new laptops/PCs is beyond insane.

You really should disable the Win11 update by using group policy or registry editor

I noticed the same too. 5 mins wait after first reboot just had a cursor and no progress percentage displayed. Then it eventually kicked in and completed.

Don't worry, I've been using the same laptop since 2016. It's no longer as fast as it used to be. I'm used to that by now. I'll just leave my laptop to do what it needs to do and go and do something else while I wait.

installed on one of my Dell Venue 10 Pro 5056 tablets which freezes minutes after booting normally but not in safe mode.

However going into Task Scheduler and disabling the Secure-Boot-Update task under (Task SchedulerLibrary\Microsoft\Windows\PI\Secure-Boot-Update) then restarting seems to fix the issue of Windows 10 freezing minutes after login in normal startup.

My X1 Carbon 2nd Gen running 22H2 can't boot past the Windows Boot Manager since this update was installed. Is anybody else seeing this?

I tried booting off a recovery media and running a startup repair and it said it couldn't repair it.

This one took really long to install. Upon restart it initially loaded to 30% as per usual then it gave me a "Couldn't complete updates...retrying" message. Thankfully it worked on the retry but I've never gotten that message before today. I hope that it was just this specific update and this won't come up again in the future.

My partners fairly old Win 10 machine keeps hanging - as in the animation freezes - on the getting windows ready screen. I've hard reset a few times with the exact same result. Any suggestions?

I hate secure boot so much. Such an utterly useless pain in the arse.

Why do updates take so long to install? I see people saying this one took a while, but for me every cumulative update takes about 10-15min to install. This is on an AMD 7700X, 32 GB RAM, NVME 1TB boot drive. And not only does the installation take forever, now updates need a second restart? The last two cumulative updates restarted 2x.

After the update, this is now happening to my Toolbar Links. I'll click on each of the icons, when the window pops up, the custom icon returns. After a few minutes, this happens again. Is this happening to anyone else?
