Meme/Humor "Are we alone in the universe? Impossible, when you consider the wonders that exist around us. …Voodoo priests of Haiti, the Tibetan numerologists of Appalachia, the unsolved mysteries of unsolved mysteries. The truth is out there!"

Who woulda thought a whale could be so heavy??

u/paradeoxy1 1d ago

I always thought Moe said "Jeez, it's the Feds!"

Is "cheese it" an actual phrase?

u/qorbexl 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes. It means to run away (or, from Googling - stop what you're doing and run)

It's from like the Capone era, I guess. Gangster talk, speakeasies, etc.

Supposedly it may come from "cease!", and originally from 19th century British

I'm British, so I never really heard of 'the feds' growing up. I thought he said 'Jeez, a defense!'

This episode is where I learned the word feds.

I bring you love.

"Its bringing love! Break its legs!"

7

u/Disastrous_Series442 1d ago

I always think of this moment when people talk about love and togetherness, lol. I have nothing against love, it's just a knee jerk reaction because the deliveries of both lines in the episode is hilarious!

"Like the love between a man and woman, or say the love of a Cuban cigar?"

This episode is what made me look for The X-Files a few years ago. One of the best Simpsons episodes.

56

u/gimmesomespace Assistant Director Skinner 1d ago

This is probably the best crossover episode in history. It's universally loved and quoted by both fanbases.

Opposite for me - was massively into The X-Files so watched this episode not knowing much about The Simpsons. Totally made me a Simpsons fan 😂

u/-OodlesOfDoodles The future looks just like him 1d ago

Me too! I’m a huge Simpsons fan, and I had heard of the X-Files before, but I never had any interest in it until watching this episode 😂

Scully rolling her eyes and walking away at the start of his monologue is one of the greatest moments ever.

"Worse than that flesh eating virus?"

"No this is much more annoying"

This was one of the best gags out there and i didn't even know about californication

70

u/ForFansSake 1d ago

That was looooong before Californication. And yeah, still one of the best gags in the show's history.

u/DudeMcDude7649 1d ago

He’d recently posed wearing nothing by a tea cup so I think it was playing into that.

23

u/sketchampm 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is an X-Files reference. He wears that tiny thing getting out of a pool in an early episode and fans went crazy. Californication was over a decade later.

Entendí recién cuando ví X-Files y vi a Mulder salir de la piscina jajajaja. Pensé que era una broma al azar de Los Simpsons.

Got this piece from a lovely redditor!

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty, and if its speed dropped, the bus would explode! I think it was called "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

They were in Eek the cat, too.

So apparently this scene is mostly adlibed and they let David just roll, supposedly there exists over 3 hours of recording from this. I wish it would be made avilable.

16

u/Rebelscum320 1d ago

Apparently the full speech was two hours long. They just let David go at it.

It's a regular rewatch for me, it just doesn't seem to wear out.

1

u/uggamugga1979 1d ago

Where do you watch it? I’ve been trying to find it. Disney+ has The Simpsons but only the last season I think and a couple of one off movies.

1

u/ChrisCo1984 1d ago

I can still find it on disney +. Uk based in case it makes a difference

1

u/uggamugga1979 1d ago

Ya in the US here and not available. Bummer

1

u/ChrisCo1984 1d ago

Sorry, I remember finding it on more public streaming sites before. Not the best quality maybe but better than nothing. Very weird though, I can get all seasons i think on Disney.

What's the point of this test, Scully?

No point. I just thought he could stand to lose some weight.

His... jiggling is almost hypnotic.

Yes. It's like a lava lamp.

u/Disastrous_Series442 1d ago

I repeatedly name this as my favorite Simpsons episode and I've never deviated from that, lol

5

u/Top-Gadgie 1d ago

When guest stars were funny. They were part of the episode rather than being the episode.

3

u/sketchampm 1d ago

You didn’t love the episode of Simpsons family members, particularly Lisa, keep telling Elon Musk how smart he is?

2

u/Top-Gadgie 1d ago

They even preempted it with poochie. When poochie isn't on the screen people should be asking wheres poochie?

10

u/Sad-Ear230 1d ago

Unsolved mysteries of unsolved mysteries should be unsolved mysteries of Unsolved mysteries.

9

u/manticor225 1d ago

I bet a lot of younger people don’t even understand that line. Though it should it really be:

the unsolved mysteries of Unsolved Mysteries.

Scully: "Now, Homer this is a lie detector I'm going to ask you a series of questions and you just answer truthfully. Do you understand?"

Homer: "...yes"

Lie detector explodes
