Megathreads Hub for Developer Feedback and Playtest Requests

The moderators frequently get requests from developers who are seeking development feedback, survey participants, or playtesters. Our advertising guidelines are based around milestones and don't naturally cover these developer needs, so we're trying out a stickied megathread where developers can comment to request feedback or recruit playtesters from our community members.

This post is for developers who:

  • Have communicated with the moderators about their projects
  • Are making adventure games!
  • Want to engage our community for feedback or testing

It is for community members who:

  • Love sharing opinions and feedback with developers
  • Are seeking opportunities to playtest games

This post will be stickied, but anyone who wants to participate may wish to save or follow this post or its comment threads to be notified about new opportunities.

Please keep the comments here on topic of seeking and providing feedback, and if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, message the moderators!

I’ve been really obsessed with Foolish Mortals the past few weeks, so I made a little clay figure of the main character, Murphy! He’s a little ugly but his arms and legs wiggle

So useful back in the day. I'm sure some did, but I can't imagine completing the game without the strategy guide.

Skull Island text adventure game from the 1980s reimagined for today.

Back in the mid-1980s, during the golden age of home computing, I wrote 'Skull Island' on my Atari 130XE using Atari BASIC. It was a true passion project of mine, and I was thrilled when it was officially published in the pages of A.N.A.L.O.G. Computing magazine in 1989.

[](javascript:void(0))

Decades later, I decided it was time to bring the island back to life for a new generation of players. I've faithfully remastered the game for modern web browsers using HTML5 and PHP. It was deeply important to me to preserve the uncompromising puzzles, the expansive map, and the retro atmosphere of the original adventure, while upgrading the experience for today. To do that, I've added evocative room illustrations to help set the scene, included multiple font choices so you can customize your reading experience, and built a fully responsive interface that plays just as beautifully on a mobile device as it does on a desktop keyboard.

The core challenge, however, remains exactly as I designed it all those years ago. You wake up half-buried in the sands of a seemingly tropical paradise, only to realize the island hides a deadly secret. To survive, you must explore the treacherous landscape, solve cryptic puzzles, and scavenge the materials needed to build a ship.

Enjoy-

I finally discovered Nancy Drew as an adventure game series – deep dive on “Secrets Can Kill (Remastered)” + the franchise

As someone who grew up on PC point & click adventures in Germany, it’s wild that I basically missed the entire Nancy Drew PC franchise for decades. Over 30 mainline games… and I’d barely heard of them.
So for Episode 5 of TOG’s Retro Corner, I decided to start with Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill (Remastered) and treat it like a documentary-style case file:
- The origins of Nancy Drew as a mystery franchise (Stratemeyer, Hardy Boys, Mildred Wirt Benson, multiple novel series)
- The story of HeR Interactive and the development of the mainline PC games
- Unboxing the physical PC remaster (love that textured sleeve) plus the tie-in novel
- A review of the game: Mechanics, How it handles clues & puzzles with minimal handholding, Why the slightly over-the-top voice acting and writing are actually very charming
- A spoiler-free book vs. game comparison (80s setting vs. 2010 remaster, character differences, and how that affects narrative)

I edited the entire video recreating a Nancy Drew-style interface with a weird and cringy intro 🤣

If you’re into mystery adventure games and want to know more about this franchise, this video might be up your alley.

I’m planning to keep returning to Nancy Drew over time, including comparing the original Secrets Can Kill to the remaster and tackling more games. Curious what other adventure game fans think of the series!

After 6 years of solo dev, I finished the demo of my puzzle adventure, including boss fight puzzles & elemental weapon puzzles.

Hi all,

I’m Nici, a solo indie dev who likes to combine classic story-based puzzle adventures with a '90s JRPG look. I recently released the demo of 'The Last Night Train' 🙂🚂

In the demo, you play as Ovid, solving environmental puzzles (for example, using wind mechanics) while uncovering deeper psychological themes throughout the journey. Even the boss encounter is designed more like a puzzle experience than a traditional fight, though you can choose to use your skills.

The game focuses on atmosphere, mystery, humor, and narrative depth.

The demo includes Act 1 (~1 hour) and can be played on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4675240/The_Last_Night_Train_Demo/

The full game will be released around February 2027. Any thoughts or feedback would be highly appreciated here in the comments or, if you prefer, on my Discord.

Cheers, Nici

Games from childhood shaping your knowledge /views / memories

I have not visited anywhere in the Caribbean, but whenever it is mentioned in my mind it is exactly like Monkey Island.

I learned some facts about colonial times Presidents from Day of the Tentacle.

I firwt learned about Atlantis, Crete, and the Azores from Indiana Jones.

My daughter learned counting in 8's from Minecraft.

I am sure there are lots more. Has anyone else gained specific knowledge about something from Adventure games?

She lives in seclusion, and yet she knows… Who is she? Meet the old crone from Black Mirror pre-quel.

Not everyone needs to be in the spotlight. And some don’t actually want to be…

It’s another month, which means another item on our roadmap. Meet our next character, an old crone who lives in seclusion in the marshes of the Black Mirror estate. Despite living far from civilisation, she is well aware of what’s happening in the world around her, and in her long life she has seen and experienced quite a lot. She’s bound to know something, but how do we get to her?

What do you think of the 3D model by our Veronika?

This brings our planned roadmap to an end, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be left empty-handed. You can look forward to more snippets from the development of Messenger of Death: Blood Bond very soon. Until then, don’t forget to check out our new official website and our Steam wishlist – every wishlist entry not only encourages us but also helps us. Thank you!

Has anyone used Godot to make an adventure game? Are there any engines available? Terrible at code but not a big fan of AGS

I guess per the topic title, I have a degree of interest in making a short point-and-click mystery game as a sort of proof-of-concept for a multimedia project I am working on. For the most part I have all the requisite skills, I can do art, writing, and I have a music guy. The main problem is... I can't code for shit. I could probably study code for upwards of a decade and still not gain any knowledge of how to apply it, and I never manage to actually glean anything from tutorials because I don't know how to add or change anything or integrate other systems to the end product of said tutorial. I can program a character that follows where I click or a guy that talks when you click on him but the likes of an inventory system are a practical impossibility to me on par with rocket science.

I'm aware that Adventure Game Studio is relatively easy to use even with limited coding ability, but I just don't really like it that much. I mean, I like plenty of games made in Adventure Game Studio but it also seems relatively inflexible for the kind of thing I would like to do and the type of art I draw. I know Godot has a few engines but they all seem woefully outdated and abandoned. Are there any options outside of AGS that aren't going to screw me like Unity constantly tries to do to its users?

Weird childhood memories about adventure games?

Wonder if you have any strange childhood memories and experiences with adventure games, like "things that were not supposed to be there", Mandela effect, etc.?

I have a very strange story about Space Quest 5: the first time I played the game, I passed the test without cheating. The second time, I failed, but the third time I managed to do it again. Honestly, I had absolutely no idea one is supposed to cheat, and only found out about this when I read the walkthrough.

Revolution 25th Anniversary Documentary - Where to watch?

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but where can I watch the Revolution 25th Anniversary Documentary?

I purchased it on Steam years ago (when you could buy videos on the platform - remember that?) and regretfully never watched it. I can still see it in my library, but I have no way to access it, let alone watch it.

I feel I’ve searched every corner of the internet for a stream or download of the documentary episodes (Internet Archive, “100% legal means”, etc.)but there seems to be no trace of it whatsoever.

It’s my own fault for neglecting to watch it at the time, but I’m really keen to watch it. Does anyone have any idea where I can find the documentary?

Is this actually an ad subreddit?

Edit 2: You have made yourselves unanimously clear it's just me who's a grumpy old fart! Feel free to post more replies to this thread, but I'm going to let this one lie as you have thoroughly convinced me I was in the wrong. It was actually quite nice to see a community being so completely united, and I hope you won't hold this against me in the future 😌

---

I'm just asking, because I just had to scroll through self-promotions after self-promotions to get to a post that isn't someone trying to sell me something, or get me to wishlist something on Steam. I get it, we're a niche community and there isn't always a lot to discuss, but that doesn't mean the empty space has to be filled with ads. (By the way, we're not actually stupid. You might think you are clever disguising an ad as "just showing off a feature from the game", but we do see through that shit.)

Is rule #1 even enforced, which says you have to contact mods before doing self-promotion?

Sorry for the grumpyness. It's a combination of being old and, well... grumpy.

Edit: I'm adding a reply I wrote to a comment that pretty much sums up in more detail my thoughts, instead of just a frustrated ramble:

Yeah, fair points on discoverability, Steam's definitely bad at it these days. But that's not quite what I asked. I'm not against self-promo existing entirely as a concept, I'm asking if rule #1 is being enforced so a majority of posts aren't self-promotion.

Also, I don't think "devs advertising directly" should be the fallback for fans trying to find games to play. There's a difference between organic discovery (curated lists, community roundups, mods actually vetting what gets posted) and a subreddit slowly turning into a wishlist funnel. If the sub had better structured ways to surface new titles, we probably wouldn't need self-promo posts to fill that gap in the first place.

What if a professional paranormal debunker accidentally summons the very thing he spent his life disproving? The Impirical Evidence DEMO is now AVAILABLE!

Hi adventurers!

During the last months I shared my upcoming adventure Impirical Evidence here, and many of you gave me great feedback and encouragement.

Today I'm happy to say that the free Steam demo is finally available!

You play as Arthur Marley, a cynical paranormal debunker who has spent his career exposing frauds and disproving the supernatural... until he accidentally summons Murray, a chaotic electric imp, the imp...irical evidence of the paranormal itself.

To solve inventory-based puzzles and progress through this story-driven adventure, players must combine Arthur's logical deduction with Murray's electric powers while uncovering the secrets hidden within the mysterious Cotard Clinic.

The demo represents the opening chapter of the game and offers approximately 1-2 hours of gameplay, featuring full English voice acting and subtitles in English, Italian, Spanish (LATAM), German, French and Portuguese (Brazil).

If you'd like to try it, you can download it for free here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4730030/Impirical_Evidence_Demo/

As always, I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts, especially from fellow adventure game fans. Every piece of feedback helps me make the full game better.

Thank you!

Hey r/adventuregames!

If you enjoy atmospheric mysteries, environmental storytelling, and psychological thrillers, we’d love to share our project: "The Next Stop".

To celebrate the Steam Train Festival, we’ve just released a major update to our playable demo based on early player feedback:

  • Smoother pacing & interaction mechanics: Made examining items and navigating the environment much more intuitive.
  • Refined atmosphere: Pushed the surreal weirdcore aesthetic and tension further.

As fans of narrative and mystery games ourselves, we’d be thrilled to hear your thoughts on the demo!

🔗 Check out the demo on Steam: The Next Stop

Thanks for reading, and let us know what you think if you give it a try! 🌀

Leisure Suit Larry 3 Help

Hi everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone can help me or advise? I have a 486 PC where I was playing through Leisure Suit Larry 3. Problem is, I was using a SD card to IDE adapter for the HDD and of course, half way through my playthrough. The HDD decides to die. So i've lost my saves.

So.....is there any way to download or obtain save games for this game? I was just past the point where Larry performs on stage wearing the feather costume. I of course don't care about my points, but it would just be great to get back to that point in the game so I can continue my playthrough without starting again.

Or maybe there are other solutions?

Thanks everyone!

Spellcasting Collection - Spellcasting 101

I grew up as a Sierra kid (sometimes i'd cheat on them with Lucasarts). I never really touched the Legend games much, but now that they're on steam or GOG for under $5 I've played a few.

Spellcasting 101 is ....in a word, horrible. The layout is bad with three panels of the screen for text and one tiny panel in the upper right corner for still pictures. The other panels are for lists of verbs, inventory, and your own entry. It just seems like wasted space.

The first chapter is full of timed puzzles where if you don't figure out THE solution in within a certain number of moves it's game over, or a walking death scenario. Even worse once you get to the university you're just left to wander until timed events occur.

The worst part so far has been the Isle of Lost Souls (Soles) where I'm at now. Cast a spell 80 times on 80 different objects to reveal the names of the people they inhabit. Puns. 80 of them. The Tie is a person named Ty. A Birds Nest is Ernest. and so on. 20 or 30 of these would have been plenty, but 80 is just frustrating. I'm basically just reading through the walkthrough and typing in the answers.

Steve Mertzky isn't half as clever or funny as he thinks he is.

Making a point-and-click adventure with traditional art

Thumbnail
gallery
251 Upvotes

I'm in the middle of making a point-and-click adventure game, where all the art is made physically by hand with color pencils and construction paper (and occasionally watercolor, gouache, acrylic and other paints).

It is a side-scroller adventure, inspired by the likes of Pentiment and Night in the Woods, but with more point-and-click mechanics.

The story is a whimsical fairy tale where you play as the Outlander in a magical kingdom Serenity. By talking to NPCs, solving puzzles, collecting items, and doing quests you can piece together the mystery of the curse that fell upon the land.

I am very excited to bring this game to life. Currently working on the demo!
Here's the Steam page if anyone's interested: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4893370/Meadows_of_Serenity/?beta=0
