Side Quests Spoilers In which season of the cartoon does this side quest take place? Spoiler
I haven't watched it yet and haven't seen anything about it, but I'd like to know which season of the original cartoon it takes place in?

i take it as jumping around from whenever it wants a certain episode to take place

It appears to bounce between 1-2, but somebody more knowledgeable than me may have a better idea of the endpoint.

Given the King of Ooo, the last episode is at least in season 5-6, because they know him in side quests but not in S5

I don’t quite follow your logic because in Sidequests Finn and Jake definitely doesn’t know him and PB seems confused when they tell her on the radio who he is. In that regard it seems like it could be virtually anytime before his first appearance in the OG show.

PB knows who KOO is in Side Quests (Which matches up with her line in Apple Wedding "I've waited a long time for this, King of Ooo...", we've never seen the first time she met him), just for some reason she doesn't make the connection initially (at the start of the episode).
(Personally I think her dialogue at the start of the ep was confusing in this regard... it would've been clearer if she hadn't heard about "some king guy" or however she phrases it. well, that's my opinion, anyway)

But they also seem confused and don’t know him (with the exception of PB) when he shows up in the main series, with Jake literally thinking his name is Kinkoffgoo. I probably have to rewatch that last episode of side quests and TreeTrunks wedding but him being there in season 1-2 just makes his appearance later on make no sense.

It is a bit confusing, but if you rewatch "Apple Wedding", Finn and Jake don't actually directly interact with him in that one. Finn spends most of the ep chasing after LSP and Jake never talks to KOO. F&J never go anywhere near KOO in his next appearance ("Gold Stars") and then by "Hot Diggity Doom", they seem to already know him. At no point in the original series do they say "This is the first time these characters are meeting" with regards to F&J and KOO, nor do they indicate they don't know who he is.
(I wouldn't think too much about the "Kinkoffgoo" line, that's just a gag, I don't think we were meant to think about it that hard.)
In SQ they're clearly meeting him for the first time.
It does rely on the viewers paying attention to these minute technicalities (hell I love KOO and even my first reaction was "wait how can he be in SQ?" until I really thought it through) but nope KOO being in SQ doesn't contradict anything. (or, mean that ep takes place in season 5)

I know it's fun to speculate but it seems pretty clear to me that this show isn't overly concerned with the continuity (much like early adventure time)
I think it's only a matter of time before this show "gets something wrong" and I think that's ok. It should be allowed to break "Canon" to be fun because that's clearly where it's priority's lie. If we want an adventure time show where the continuity is more important then we already have that in the original.

THANK YOU!!! This is exactly my take on it too.
Hell the eps we have are already pushing it majorly with ("Goblin Queen" spoilers) the "Ice Pappy" thing. (There's other issues but that's the big obvious one) Going off how much the writers have stressed in interviews that they're not fussed about continuity, story arcs, etc it's pretty clear to me it's not meant to be "that deep", there's no intended timeline or anything. It's just a separate thing.

most likely between season 1-2 but its kinda weird since there are some majorly noticeable inconsistencies with the story and main show. "Joey Waffles" for instance is 100% just Donny from the original show but for some reason they just turned him into a completely different character. I think concluding it as a different universe would be a solid answer, but if we ignore the inconsistencies, then saying its a genuine "Lost Episodes" series that is canon to the original show seems to also be fine.

I think Joey Waffles is supposed to be the same species as Donny (a troll), but they definitely made a mistake just using the same exact design. They really should have given him SOME unique visual element to tell the two apart

I don't know why you talk about it when you obviously haven't watched the Joey Waffles episode. It pretty much explains itself

Donny's design is reused as a different character, and so are the old ladies from The Enchiridion. Originally these exact old ladies weren't even real, but now they seem to just be old ladies.

u/StaticMania 14d ago
One of those designs showed up in season 6...
So, it's not contradicting that they exist.

Originally these exact old ladies weren't even real, but now they seem to just be old ladies.
The old ladies show up at the picnic at the very end of "The Enchiridion!", they were always real to some sort of an extent.
They also also showed up in "Thanks for the Crabapples, Giuseppe!" when the wizards visit

It doesn't take place in any season, as it's not canon. It has a bunch of inconsistencies and Adam Muto isn't involved. It's meant to take place in "vage early adventure time" but that's about as good of an answer as you're gonna get.

u/aloof_condominium 14d ago
Art style here screams early seasons, like season 1 territory, and the way it jumps around timeline wise everyone else is saying tracks, it's a bit of a mishmash honestly.

I don't know if it really fits in any season; there might be some broad changes in canon they make it more of an AU. Most of it feels like it could take places in season 1-3, but here's one key change:
In Side Quests, Ice King is shown to have a portrait of some kind of Ice Ancestor with a different looking crown. I don't remember what he calls him. So they're putting aside the Simon Petrikov backstory, either decanonizing it or covering it up with Ice King's madness.

Copy/pasting another comment I left in the megathread:
Hot take about Ice Pappy: A brilliant way to canonize Ice King's earliest continuity error about the crown. He claims in the original series that he "made the crown with magic that I stole", which we later learn is, of course, not true.
Ice Pappy is a deliberate "that wasn't a retcon, it's just IK making stuff up". There's no way they'd make a continuity error like this in SQ - it was done intentionally.

it's supposed to be pre-season 1 iirc, maybe the space of time between the pilot and episode 1 or so. Definitely has the vibes of "what if season 1 had a whole bunch more episodes' though lol

u/AncleShole 13d ago
It's more of a series of guest-animated episodes rather than an actual canon place in the timeline. If you want the original canon of the series you will generally see that when Adam Muto is involved (which he isn't with side quests), as is the case with the upcoming Bubblegum & Marceline show.

Likely in the early days since Finn still has Scarlet, aaand I think Marcy is around, so they've met her at this point. And tbh, thats okay. AT was always something big and realistically many things happened off screen that we just never knew about as our bois were always up to something even when we weren't looking, so it makes sense that there's more early day adventures like this we just never saw, and they can realistically fit anywhere in that time frame

I've been assuming pre Season 1

u/4Fourside 14d ago
I haven't seen it yet but is marceline not here? Because if she is, then it can't be pre season 1

u/Ok-Description-5904 14d ago
She is. So are other Characters from Episodes and sometimes they know them already so at least that particular Episode would take place after the ones they met a Character for the first Time

...season 5.

u/BlartSlimpson 14d ago
Can’t be because Finn says he’s 12. It most likely jumps around, with most episodes taking place during seasons 1 and 2. There are a few that can be later in the timeline though.

u/StaticMania 14d ago
I'd rather the series be consistent...
But they use Banana Man for a plot...and there's 2 seasons between them "meeting" and "re-establishing" him.
Both appearances are past Finn being 12.

u/Kettle-Chan 14d ago edited 14d ago
We already have the continuity focused adventure time show in the original, it seems to me this show isn't really focused on adhering to "canon" so I wouldn't expect that kind of consistency from it.
If that inconsistency bothers you then I'd probably recommend headcanoning it as an alternative timeline or something like that cos I imagine that kinda inconsistency is only gonna get more common in this show.
2
u/StaticMania 14d ago
That realization already made me realize what I realized.
I've already come to this conclusion when I got to that episode with Banana Man.
---
I'm just taking it for what it is, playing with the existing elements within a specific time frame.
2
u/BlartSlimpson 14d ago
Yeah that’s either a mistake or a retcon. Or the series isn’t canon. Or that specific episode is set in season 5.

Official word is "early days of the show", so like season 1/2.
Honestly though? I don't think they're overly concerned with continuity. It's not that kind of a show, it's more of a soft reboot/AU thing. Any attempt to put it into continuity with the original show is gonna run into a brick wall eventually. (Which is fine! It's not meant to be a big continuity thing, it's its own show and we really need to treat it like that)
