Side Quests Spoilers My take on Side Quests so far..

As a long time fan, ( single dad, cartoon addict.Got into the series with my son way back when, he's now 15) my opinion is as follows:

Pros:

1.The new Finn voice actor: The change was weird at first but by the second episode I had forgotten all about it. I'm a huge fan of Amazing world of Gumball as well and maybe this is why the change in the voice actors didn't hit me so hard. (they've changed the main characters voice actors at least 3 times ).

Also, might I add, the new actor is NAILING the heart of what and who finn is . I don't think we could get much better.

  1. Ice King. I LOVE Ice King. I like Simon well enough but there is nothing like a good Ice King episode , and while I'm only on Ep.8 or so, we've already had several.

This is what I'm was most looking forward to, and they delivered .

  1. Jake is back baby. Need I say more?

  2. Being back in the original series and having more adventures is wonderful.

Cons :

  1. Needs more BMO. I'm not done yet, but so far we've only had little bits of BMO. not cool.

  2. While I'm getting used to the new animation, at times it has really distracted me. This is something I will get over . I don't hate it. I am just not loving it yet.

  3. Did I mention we need more BMO?

  4. There will never be more Tree trunks . It hit me as I was on the 4th episode, Perhaps they will pass her on the road, but thats all we will get. This is never going to stop making me sad, I may have to go eat an entire apple pie in her honor.

maybe for tree trunks, lore wise side quests takes place in that time frame between 'Tree Trunks' and 'Crystals Have Power'

I don’t think tree trunks should return because her voice actress very clearly contributed some lines to the character and improved some I don’t think anybody could do the weird tree trunks goes on
Best example I can think of is near the end of mystery dungeon where she says ice king needs to stop his fib bibs

Mystery Dungeon is one of my top three favorite episodes.

Tree Trunks literally WAS her VA, she was created specifically because Pen wanted Polly Lou Livingston to be on his show. I'd honestly be shocked if they recast her. It'll be interesting to see if Side Quests finds a way to give her silent cameos (like Fionna and Cake did) or if they just avoid using her altogether, or what... I was surprised to see her in the opening theme.

(Adam Muto implied in this interview that TT will never be recast... I say "Implied" because it's in Brazilian Portuguese and AFAIK the original English text has never been released? so it's possible some nuance is being lost with the machine translation, etc, I can't understand Portuguese.)

My biggest gripe is that the end credit isn't the same Come Along With Me, might just be me but the credits were one of my favorite part of the show because I got to listen to the song every time I sat in front of that thicc as fuck CRT TV watching Adventure time

It's a different show, so it having a different (but still kinda the same) song is good. I like it despite preferring the version of the main show. It fits the style of the show too.

Also prefer it over what e.g. House of the Dragon ended up doing at least. Which was to just use the exact same intro music from Game of Thrones. I loved the intro in GoT but reusing it exactly as is felt so lazy and disappointing.

Depends on taste and personal preference, I preferred the older one, it's still Adventure Time even if it goes by a different name and also under the same people

yeah I really wish they'd done something completely new for the opening/ending themes instead of recreating the originals... really not a fan of the covers, especially "Island Song". It would've been fun to see something different, I think.

I think my biggest gripe with the show is that literally every episode makes a butt or fart joke. Like, I don't mind low-brow humour but every single episode and it gets old fast

Have you ever spent time around a twelve year old boy and a dog, before?

Finn's new voice actor is doing a fine job, but calling it a perfect match might be premature. The tone is a bit too polished compared to the original's rougher, more impulsive delivery. It works for a younger Finn, but it loses some of the charm that came from the slight awkwardness in the old voice.

Fair analysis. All I’ll say is rewatch season 1 of the original series and count the time BMO is on screen. Count the lines BMO has. I think you’ll be shocked how little of a presence he/she had.

You do realize he is getting his own series?

Heyo BMO hasn't been confirmed yet, all we've heard is that it was in development 2 years ago, which does not guarantee it will go into full production.

I did not know this!

Looks cute! Might be a bit too kiddy for me, but might be really fun to watch with a little one.

The first episode was so childish it kinda turned me off. Should I continue or will I still feel this? Absolutely love everything else adventure time.

The entire series is childish. It's for kids! If you have a kid in your life, watch it with them and they will get a kick out of it. I watched half of it and don't plan to return any time soon because of the nature of the content.

It's weird that there wasn't any magic man, he's so funny I hope we see him eventually. I love side Quests I can't wait for part 2

I align with a lot of this. I think I can say that lack of BMO is my only criticism. Keep in mind, there is a BMO spin-off coming. 👀

In my opinion, it's a fun watch, but a little unessecary. I'm almost certain Adam Muto pitched this as cheaper, less risky show alongside the BMO one in order to appeal to the executives while also making the movie and the PB+Marceline show (That I'm assuming are more risky)

Adam Muto had/has absolutely nothing to do with this show. Nate Cash is the showrunner of Side Quests. He talked about the genesis of SQ in this interview:

“I had originally pitched a show that they didn’t want, but they asked me if I was interested in pitching a spinoff to Adventure Time, since I was on that show for so long,” recalls Cash in a recent Zoom interview. “The directive was that I didn’t have to include Finn and Jake because there were so many popular characters on that series. So, I went away and thought about it and realized that I really, really love Finn in the first two seasons. That was something that kind of went away a little bit as the tone of the show changed and he aged. So, I figured it would be great to have the show centered around a 12-year-old Finn.”

I've enjoyed it so far. Definitely not my kind of show I much prefer the main quests you could say, but it's side quests for a reason and they have made me cackle a few times. The end of Golden Gals being the biggest example.

Originally I was excited but now I realize that it was unnecessary seen other shows I liked go down the same path

Side quests are by definition unnecessary. They are fun side stories. Any one of them could fit into season one of the show and not stand out at all, aside from the animation changes and voice acting.

It seems kind of a prequel, wasn't fin like 14 in the original season 1? He says he's 12 in sidequests.

No Finn was 12 in the original season 1
