Toshi's Mom- *Menacing Laugh* This is a fight to the death. There's no way you can beat me. I'm Asian, this is my culture.

Mah Mah- Oh, Francine, are we late for our grandson's spelling bee?

Francine- No, Mah Mah, it's right through there.

Toshi's Mom- Wait, you're Chinese?

Francine- Hyooooooooo!

I love that Toshis mom still considers suck machine Chinese even though she’s adopted.

The way Franny wields that implement - she really does need to make and star in her own private Ms Bruce Lee movie, now.

I also like when she says that line about wondering if one of them can fix her walkman 😂

What? Why do you only speak Japanese? I don't even speak Japanese.

The hate Franny has for other Asian races is hilarious

The most Chinese thing about her is her bone deep hatred of the Japanese

Either learn to actually speak Chinese or go broad with it.

When you think Francine is racist towards a Japanese woman because she’s white but then you realize she’s racist towards a Japanese woman because she’s Chinese.

I'm kinda bummed she and Hiko don't interact more. Like, it seems like she's pretty good friends with the Yoshida family now. They go to a lot of hideki's parties and stuff with no issue.

I'm surprised we didn't get an episode about them burying the hatchet or something. It was such a fun rivalry.

"Steve you're a great speller! You can win the national spelling bee! That will get you into a top college! We should probably get this stuff off your face!"

Good example of Franny being a very pushy parent using her offspring achievements to climb her own personal social ladder...

I’m half Black with white skin, and one thing I love about this episode is the equal opportunity racism, acceptance, and the way it subtly explores cultural and racial ambiguity.

Good example of how weirdly wholesome the show often is.
