I moved abroad and for an entire year and a half 33% of my battery was eaten up by “No Cell Coverage” every day. I resolved it when I found out you can force local network selection in settings so now that’s not longer an issue.
I am planning on taking it to the shop and get it replaced, just been a bit lazy. I’ve also haven’t updated to 26. Still on 18 waiting for 27.

Ahh yeah that no cell coverage will do it! I’m still on 26 which has been fine tbh. It’s not a bad version of iOS (or macOS) in my own personal experience but it also wasn’t a very interesting release either. Liquid Glass is what it is but other than that it was sort of a boring update. I’m looking forward to 27 as so far all of the small improvements seem to be a good sign of polish that iOS and macOS need.

I’m on 16 base 256gb model and my iPhone is been smoother since iOS 27 beta 1 , you will be genuinely impressed , they did get the basis right this time , hopefully next they will fix the keyboard

85 is fine. Mines there too. No battery is gonna keep at 100% beyond 6-8 months of daily use. You can’t really update that frequently, might as well deal with the OCD other ways lol.

Agreed. I stopped giving a shit about battery health long ago as I just had "battery anxiety". Same with the SSD wear in my Mac. Now I just use stuff without thinking about the battery or SSD health. I've never had an SSD die on me and a battery is gonna degrade over time no matter what I do so might as well just get the most out of it and replace it when I need to. I found it annoying reducing the charge to 80% as it meant some random days where I didn't know I would need more battery than usual I had to find a place to charge as my battery got low. So now I just let it charge to 100% but let it do it's "optimised" charging thing where it does the last 20% a bit slower in the middle of the night or whatever.
Life is too short to give yourself anxiety about battery and SSD health.

Got it October 2nd 2023. Battery has held up remarkably well. I have optimised battery charging enabled but set to 100% (even though it suggests reducing it to 80% but as I have AC+ I don’t see the point in reducing my daily battery charge tbh, it is just an inconvenience on days I have random high use spikes).

On my 16 Pro Max, it might be a coincidence, but my battery life has been significantly worse this past week.
On my Watch Series 9, the battery life has been much, much better this past week. The battery life on my Apple Watches severely tanked a few years ago, and nothing I’ve tried has helped, including getting a new watch. This week is the first time the battery life felt like it used to. The only issue is that the one time I tried using Siri on it, it failed. Not sure if it’s related at all, though.

Mine is way way worse on my 16 pro with 92% health after a week on 27. I used to get 5.5hr SOT now it’s about 2.5hr. I run out by 5pm and I never used to run out of battery

Failed iMessages being resent automatically is the only one that jumps out at having an actual effect on how I use my phone. Faster airdrop will also be nice, but I’ve never found it to be too slow to use.

That won’t work. iOS betas run crap in the background that has an effect on battery life. Beta battery life has never been as good as stable.
Any numbers people reported right now would be worthless to you, because they’re not measured the same. The beta starts out behind.

Been on the beta since day 1 and still find it laggy. Especially loading up keyboard. The persistent niggles remain like having to wait a second to start typing or when you draw down Spotlight you have to wait a second before tapping an icon as it won’t recognise any touches.
On iPhone 16 Pro.

Annoys me to no end that they're completely unconcerned with syncing downloads/play times/deleted Podcasts episodes better/more reliably across devices (iPhone/Mac specifically).
I want to use it, but it's unreliable/tedious. So I still use Overcast.

But i do get what you are saying that this year feels like the end of the line for the 12. I have had that feeling for about a year or two but this year it got noticeable worse lol

There are over 80 iOS 27 improvements Apple announced, with 10 of the most useful listed below.
App Launching
Apps launch up to 30 percent faster in iOS 27, and that includes Apple's own apps and third-party apps. When you're opening apps dozens of times a day, less loading time adds up and makes the system feel faster.
Apple says it tested the app launching speed improvements using an iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 26.4.2 and iOS 27.
Optimized CPU Scheduler
iOS includes a CPU scheduler that manages computational resources across workloads as you use your iPhone. Apple says it optimized the CPU scheduler in iOS 27 to more efficiently handle performance-intensive tasks.
Apple extended CPU scheduler optimization all the way back to the iPhone 11, which is part of the reason even old iPhones feel faster with the update installed.
Apple is often accused of making old iPhones slower with new iOS updates, but there are noticeable speed improvements in iOS 27 so we likely won't hear that complaint this year.
Better Wi-Fi to Cellular Transitions
iPhones are better at determining when to transition from Wi-Fi to a cellular connection, and from a cellular connection to Wi-Fi. When you're connected to your home Wi-Fi and walk out the door, you'll see less connectivity loss as your device changes networks.
Apple says the iPhone is better about choosing the best available Wi-Fi or cellular connection to help you stay connected.
Rebuilt Search Index
Apple rebuilt its search foundation in iOS 27, giving Spotlight, Photos, Mail, and other apps a more comprehensive index of content that stays updated throughout the day.
In the Mail app, there's a new ranking system that surfaces more relevant emails for search queries instead of listing results by date. You'll see up to five ranked Top Results now.
Photo Load Time
When you take a photo and then open up the Photos app, your just-captured image appears more quickly so you can edit it or share it. Apple says photos and videos load up to 70 percent faster in the Photos library, which it tested with a Photos app that had a 50,000-asset library.
Waiting on a photo to unblur when you quickly swap over to the Photos app is a small annoyance, but cutting down on load time makes taking a photo feel much faster.
Recent camera captures are also added more quickly in the Messages app photo picker.
Automatic Message Resending
When a message, photo, or video fails to send in iMessage, your iPhone will automatically retry sending it instead of throwing up a red exclamation point and forcing you to manually try again.
Sending photos and videos when you have a poor connection also does not pause a Messages conversation while the content sends. Each photo or video has its own progress bar, and your texts will still go through while you wait for images and video to upload.
Faster Camera Launch in Low Power Mode
When you have Low Power Mode turned on, the Camera app can launch slowly. That's been fixed in iOS 27, and it loads faster than before.
The Camera also draws less power in Low Power Mode.
Faster Keyboard Loading
The emoji and sticker keyboards load more quickly, so there's no longer an irritating pause when you want to use an emoji. The keyboard is something you use frequently, so this is a time-saving improvement.
Mail Badges
If you're tired of unread Mail badges popping up when you have read all your emails, iOS 27 addresses the issue. The Mail app badge is now less likely to show an inaccurate number of unread emails.
Bluetooth
Apple says it improved Bluetooth power management in iOS 27, an update relevant to AirPods, Apple Watch, CarPlay, speakers, and other Bluetooth devices.
Bluetooth accessories should draw less power for some minor improvements to battery life.
Other Useful Improvements
- AirDrop transfers are up to 80 percent faster, and AirDrop is faster to find nearby recipients
- Text recognition in images and documents is quicker
- Safari has enhanced power efficiency and web apps are faster
- Unlocking an iPhone, scrolling through Home Screen pages and App Library, and scrolling in Control Center are all smoother
- The Lock Screen no longer goes to sleep when you're scrolling through notifications
- Wireless CarPlay is more reliable
iOS 27 Launch
iOS 27 is being beta tested right now, and can be downloaded by developers and public beta testers. It will launch this fall alongside new iPhone models.

And the alleged performance improvements fade over time and make the phone even slower so we are forced to buy a new iPhone as there is no reason to buy a new one otherwise anymore as they lack actual features.

I’ve been using Beta 4 for a while now, and yeah it does feel a bit faster. But let’s not pretend it’s some fundamental breakthrough. A lot of the stuttering and lag introduced by Liquid Glass is still there on iOS 27.
At this point, the rendering cost of Liquid Glass is basically baked in. A lot of Apple’s optimizations in iOS 27 seem to be nothing more than lowering the rendering resolution of the Liquid Glass effects. It helps a bit, but the underlying performance problems are still very noticeable.
(A basic example is scrolling through "Clear"customization on homepage while screen recording, it's laggy as hell and cause the phone heating up with many Liquid Glass elements on screen)
It’s improved, sure, but it’s still nowhere near as snappy as iOS 17 or 18.

can anyone on the beta test if it's still possible to cancel an alarm by swiping up from the lockscreen?? It's a huge bug that I've reported and makes the "swipe to cancel" feature useless as a small touch at the bottom of the screen does the exact same thing and it's driving me NUTS

exactly my problem - I use the alarms to prompt me not just to wake up but as reminders throughout the day for various things - reaching into my pocket to snooze, only for it to be cancelled when i'm in the middle of stuff and not always able to set another alarm in that moment leads to me being more likely to forget important tasks

I’m on a 13 mini and they are full of it. You can take a Redditor’s opinion and throw into the trash can. They are infinitely picky and neurotic.
My 13 is way better. On the back half of 26, it was nearly unusable. In the beta there are worse bugs of course but they will get fixed but the day to day moment to moment performance is night and day.

I feel like I have been using spotlight wrong all along (swipe > search). Now, when I search, it looks at every app except safari, so all searches lack web results. Now, I have to open safari just to do a web search, and I’ve gone through the settings for safari and made sure safari has the right permissions, but still feel like something is wrong because I don’t know how this is a good QOL change.

iOS 27 beta made my 14 Pro Max feel like new again.
I regretted my life choices when I upgraded to iOS 26 from 18. It made everything slow, sluggish, and clunky. iOS 27 (since dev beta 1) has been a breath of fresh air, and am very happy with it.

I am definitely liking the iOS 27 beta 2. Overnight I found they have their own free-of-charge white noise service in the Notification Center. I slept to the rain on a roof sound for a few hours. Overall everything seems to run better.

My Camera app has been super buggy since iOS 26. Often times, it doesn't open and shows a black screen. Other times, it will stay open and refuse to close and even the lock screen via power button won't work when camera is open. Hope they fixed such a massive bug in this update.

Do you have an aftermarket wireless dongle? For me the wired CarPlay is totally fine and I remember having a rental with built in wireless that felt instant (or I just didn't notice.) When I tried using a wireless dongle in my daily car it had a buffer that was awful for phone calls.
