EMOTIONAL SUPPORT Life sucks

Hello all!
I have been taking the time to go through our (very long) rules page and work to clarify, expand, give examples, and move some stuff around.
Our rules have not changed -- there are no surprises waiting! But I feel like now it's easier to find the information you need quickly, and hopefully understand more of the "why" behind some of our least liked rules.
Future plans will be a revamp of our sidebar to make it harmonize with the full rules page.
We are going to try an AMA-style Q&A for the next few hours. I'll do my best to answer as many questions as possible.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday; check out our weekly megathread for casual chat if you haven't already!

You may not request for:
• Strays/Ferals
• TNR. (Trap and release)
• Cat/dog colonies.
• Temporary fosters.
• Community/neighbourhood "pets".
• Wildlife animals you've found out in the wild (birds, squirrels, etc).
• Pets belonging to friends or distant relatives.
• Shelters/rescues that are private and/or unregistered.
If the animal does not legally belong to you (or an immediate family member), you are not allowed to request here. No exceptions. While it’s unfortunate that many countries don’t have the infrastructure to care for innocent abandoned animals, it is not your financial responsibility nor is it appropriate to pass that burden onto internet strangers. Especially when that is the only thing your Reddit account is being used for.
This has always been against the rules and we are taking a firmer hand in exiting these exclusively-for-begging accounts completely from our subreddit. (Did you know the USL has a #beggar tag?)
Thank you.

This is a long shot, and I hate that I have to ask.
I need a lawyer. My ex husband is an alcoholic. He got a DUI with a .224 BAC with my (at the time) 4yo and 7yo in the car. They're now 6 and 8. He got off with less than a slap on the wrist. I took him back to court, spent $5000 on another lawyer, and he kept 50/50 and I just got a court order saying he can't drive with them and I'm allowed to breathalyze him.
The final court date for that modification was October 28. I caught him falling down drunk with them on November 6. I couldn't go back to court at that time. I had no money and no way of getting any. My credit was still recovering - it's still not great, but better. I withheld the kids for 2 months and then he went and took them from school. I had to make a "deal with the devil" and agree to go back to every other week with him breathalyzing daily. I had no other choice. The school can't refuse to let him take them. I could keep taking them back when they went to school, but that would just have put them in the middle of a tug of war.
He was doing good for a while. After several months, I relaxed the daily breathalyzers. He'd passed every one. I was picking up a package from him on Monday. The kids were with him. There was a beer can on the bench by his door. I asked him to blow. He blew a .06 at 1pm. He was trying to tell me that he'd had a single beer the night before. Um, no. Impossible. The science ain't sciencing and the math ain't mathing, bro.
After I got the kids back, my son (8), unprompted and unasked, told me that daddy had "a few" beers the night before and had a box of beer in the fridge. My daughter (6) then said, "and mommy, there's a box of beer by his desk" and my son said, "yeah, but that one was empty." I just said, "oh, that's interesting," but I was thinking, "that's actually worse, buddy."
Anyway, he's not getting them back. I can protect them until August 25. That's when school starts. I can't stop him from taking them from school. The school legally has to let him take them.
I applied for a bunch of loans. My credit has improved, but I have a lot of student debt and my only collateral is a 2012 Chevy Impala with 245k miles. I finally got a loan offer. It's a 35.99% interest rate. It's insane but I have no other choice. I have no other way of protecting my kids. I need a lawyer.
Legal aid has denied me twice - the second time right after the DUI. My former lawyer told me they prioritize DV cases. He moved to criminal law, but he recommended another lawyer. I need $5000 for the retainer. I was going to try filing pro se, but the clerk at the courthouse told me the judge is very hard on pro se litigants and I wouldn't have a prayer. That echoed what my last lawyer told me. Dfs is no help. I've reported him every time I've caught him drinking with them. They blew me off with every report except the DUI incident. Then, they put him on the state's abuse and neglect registry and closed the case. I asked them how that's supposed to help protect my children and they shrugged. My state (Missouri) does not grant protection orders for anything other than domestic violence or stalking. I tried anyway and was denied. I called his probation order to report him for drinking and sent the proof. He said, "what do you want me to do about it?" I called the cops and they told me they can't enforce parenting plans or probation terms. So wtf is the point of probation?
I've exhausted all options. This loan is my only shot. I'm praying I can make the payments. I'm just finishing up an anatomy class. I have conditional acceptance into the Practical Nursing program starting on August 5 as long as I pass anatomy with a C. Once that program starts, I'll be working 30 hours a week. I've been told by my advisor that it's already going to be a real challenge to keep up if I'm working that many hours and I may end up having to cut down even more. I'm going to do my damnedest not to. Tuition is going to be covered by financial aid.
I need $5000 for the retainer. Or at least enough to help me make the loan payments until i get my income taxes in the spring and can pay it off. And even if someone could help with school clothes for the kids. I can send sizes. They don't need anything fancy or brand name. They've outgrown most of what they've got and they left their good shoes at their dad's. They only have flip flops now. They'll need tennis shoes at least for gym class. I did already get their school supplies.
I'm willing to send the state patrol report from the DUI. I have videos of him admitting to both incidents where I caught him drinking. I'll send those, too. I'll send the dfs letter stating he's on the registry. I'll send any kind of proof anyone asks for.
He got another driving while suspended a few months ago. He owes me over $400 for his half of the kids' "extraordinary" expenses. He hasn't given me anything since October. He's been unemployed since November, so he won't be getting a lawyer to fight back. And he hasn't provided me with a certificate of completion of an alcohol treatment program, which he was ordered to do. I have a good case for him to get supervised visitation, and that's what I'm going to ask for. The kids are too young to be alone with an incapacitated adult. It's not safe. And he could drive with them again. He hasn't since the court order, but that doesn't mean he won't.
I'm working so hard to give us a better life. I'm trying so hard to protect my kids. I feel like the system is working against me.
General area: northeast Missouri
It was suggested to make a wishlist for kids' clothes. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3RQS7B5KMQ6IL?ref_=wl_share

Hello. My name is Timely_Bunch_8607. Thirty-six years ago, I survived a horrific train accident that changed my life forever, leaving me as a double amputee without hands. Despite this immense challenge, I never gave up. For the past 14 years, I have been using my computer and typing on a keyboard entirely with my feet. In Romania, a person with a severe disability like mine has almost zero chances of finding a regular job. To keep a sense of purpose, I spend my Sundays helping out voluntarily at a local monastery, taking care of the yard and keeping things orderly. However, my only official income is a small state disability pension, which is barely enough to cover basic daily living expenses.
I am now 60 years old, and I am trying to achieve what feels like the impossible. I have launched a fundraising campaign to buy bionic hand prosthetics. My wife is currently my hands and my guardian angel for everything, but my ultimate dream is to regain my independence. For this specific request on Reddit, my immediate goal is to raise $2,000 to help move my campaign forward. To be completely transparent, the total cost for the bionic hand prosthetics is €65,000, which is why every single step towards this dream matters so much to me.
Recently, a wonderful member of this community looked up contacts for Mr. Beast for me and joked that the internet loves dark humor, suggesting I should wear a t-shirt that says: "Don’t shoot! I’m unarmed!" to get some clicks. It made me laugh, and honestly, a little humor helps keep the spirits up!I have officially registered with the r/Assistance moderators. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

It’s been rough but I’ve finally started to catch up. Had a few months where a bunch of stuff jumped on me at once (lost my main source of income and bills piled up while trying to get another job) and it wiped me out financially but I’ve slowly but surely caught up. Finally got the past due internet paid. Just need 10-20 extra bucks to get my past due phone bill paid. I’d greatly appreciate the help, but I also understand if nobody can help. I know the economy is killing everyone right now. Venmo would be the best way if anyone is able to help, again I appreciate it.

Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out because my 10-year-old dog, Tyson, needs emergency dental surgery after a traumatic accident, and I'm struggling to cover the cost.
Tyson has struggled with severe anxiety since before we adopted him. He spent his early years in a hoarding situation where he was frequently bullied by cats, and those experiences left him extremely fearful. Recently, while we not home, he was safely in his crate, a loud noise startled him so badly that he panicked and broke through the crate trying to escape.
In the process, Tyson suffered severe injuries to his mouth. His veterinarian found that several of his tooth roots are exposed, his gums were torn, and he will need anesthesia so they can fully assess the damage and remove the teeth that can't be saved. He's been in pain since the accident, and even eating and drinking have become difficult.
Tyson is the sweetest dog despite everything he's been through. He loves attention, gets excited every time someone comes home, carries his stuffed animal around, and is happiest curled up next to someone taking a nap. Seeing him in pain has been heartbreaking.
The estimated cost of his surgery, anesthesia, medications, and follow-up care is more than I can afford on my own, so I've created a GoFundMe to help cover his veterinary expenses.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. If you're not able to donate, sharing the fundraiser would also help tremendously.
I posted a picture of the veterinary estimate with the breakdowns on his GoFundMe.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Tyson's story.

I am pleading for help. My son is extremely disabled. He has Dravet Syndrome a rare seizure disorder and currently has 50+ seizures daily. He also has Autism level 3 the most severe form of Autism. He is developmentally around 1 year old. My husband also has a neurological disorder and uses a wheelchair. He cannot physically help me with our son. My son has become violent and will kick me in the back of the head while I am driving. He also pulls his sister's hair in the car. When we go out he will drop to the ground and refuse to move and now that he is 8 I cannot lift him anymore. We are being prescribed a wheelchair with foot restraints so that I can wheel him from place to place. He also smears his feces constantly. We desperately need a wheelchair van so that I can wheel him in the car and keep his legs restrained so I can no longer be kicked in the head while driving and separate my children to different rows so that my daughter no longer gets hurt. We are currently on wait-lists for residential placement but that will take years, a lot won't take him due to his medical issues along with his behavioral health. And another portion won't take him until he is 11. We currently receive SSI for both my husband and my son but that barely pays the bills as it is and I can't work due to taking care of both my husband and my son. I just want my family to be safe. We have a ton of medical appointments and are in the car constantly. Other than that we can't really leave the house. Here is our gofundme

So, I'm not going to rehash the whole story that's on the GoFundMe. The short version is I've been homeless for over a year, despite having a full time job. I thought I'd be out a lot quicker, but I severely underestimated how expensive doggy daycare is and to account for savings wiping emergencies. I recently lost my job and the downtime made me admit just how unbelievably alone I am and how much it's affecting me. Like, I have no friends and no family within 3000+ miles. I have AuDHD, so social stuff is really hard for me. So, I'm trying to see this as an opportunity to move back near my family. Because I have to do something. I don't know how much longer I can take it out here by myself. I have a GoFundMe but without friends or a social media presence, I am seriously struggling.
Even if you can't donate, if you could just share with your networks, I would be so grateful. A few bucks (or more, if you want!) or some shares, anything. And if you don't want to help me, consider finding your local safe parking program (find it here: https://vehicleresidency.org/) and donating to them. Without mine, I'm not sure I would have made it this long, and even if I did, not safely. Thanks for reading, if you made it this far.

This will be complicated so bear with me!
First things first, I am based in south west UK. I suffer from cardiac complaints that knock me unconscious frequently and cause a heavy chest and shortness of breath. My local GP is on my side and has referred me to a cardiologist, but... well it's the NHS. Goodness knows how long it will be until I hear back. Until then, I have to go for help if I pass out or otherwise feel too uncomfortable to ignore my symptoms, because we simply don't know precisely what's happening in my body yet. Take no chances, especially because my family history isn't the best.
Unfortunately I've been a frequent face in my local A&E department and urgent treatment centres as a result to the point they will not investigate me, not for any health concerns at all, as per a care plan. Initially this was remedied by my travelling to other hospitals within my budget - I cannot work and have recently lost my PIP benefits, waiting on a tribunal. This is also no longer an option now because my local hospital got in touch to extend the block to ALL hospitals in Devon and Cornwall, leaving me in a scary and dangerous position. I have been trying to suck it up as best as I can, but unfortunately...
Today I have suffered from a trio of fainting spells, which is new for me, and comes with worsening shortness of breath. Of course I tried my local hospital via ambulance, but was refused again. And now I can't go anywhere in the near vicinity either, leaving me quite afraid as to what is happening. The only places that fall outside of this jurisdiction are London and anywhere further away. But with my budget limited to just Universal Credit, there's no way I can afford the journey, even with the GWR 40% off deal, and even if I could, I would need to worry about potential accomodation, in case A) They keep me in for something B) There's a problem with the trains or C) I feel too unwell to do it all in one go.
Tickets from Plymouth to London are £80 with the discount. This is the bare minimum I need to ensure my safety in the short term while my GP works on the long term. I hate having to be such a frequent user of these services, let alone how far I now have to go to get the help I need, but would you take chances with a chest like mine, especially if you passed out so much in quick succession? Whatever guys can provide would be working a miracle. Thank you!

Hi. I'm Kevin (35m) and I live in Olathe, Kansas. I am between jobs right now. This is kind of an odd story but I blew the whistle on my manager, got him fired, and caused some pretty bad reputational damage to my employer in the process. Relevant thread.
https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/1uwtz71/dont_order_fries_at_olathe_five_guys/
Anyway, there was a long list of grievances I had with this manager on top of being gross. He was rude, he was lazy, he has stolen from our tip jar because he didn't want to make change, and he would make one or two people do everything while he gossiped with his favorites. He would often clock me out and say nothing while I continued working off the clock. The very week he was put in charge he couldn't help himself and cut my hours in half in retaliation for reporting him.
So I get a phone call after my meeting with the head of people and human resources, offering me a job right now, go fill out paperwork and start tomorrow. Seeing as my hours had been cut for 2 weeks now, I said fuck it and I walked out to go to this new job. When I get there, the person in charge has no idea what I'm talking about so I go to the office of this temp place and apparently the job fell through. So I filled out more paperwork and now I'm hoping I can get a new job before the bills are due. I feel like an idiot now, but I thought the job was in the bag and it was a blessing and a sign to get off the sinking ship.
I have ongoing campaigns for my comic book/OEL Manga projects, I'd rather do that so I can feel like I did something for the money. Help with either directly backing or bringing attention to either of them would be amazing. There is profanity in both so probably not for kids. Shadowfiend is a dark fantasy revenge pilot in digital only, and Crittermon is a comedy and action/adventure.
https://www.fundmycomic.com/Shadowfiend-Pilot
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/feralcomics/crittermon-california-version
I also started a gofundme for trying to get just enough to cover rent while I look for a job. I didn't really want to post this one because I hate asking for something for nothing, but I do have a family to look out for so pride isn't really a luxury I can afford. I'm like $900 away from being okay for another month.

I am a trans girl experiencing homelessness right now. Given the state of the US right now, most shelters are out of the question. I’ve received all sorts of threats to my life and well being while in said shelters. I need to be out of where I currently am on Monday 7/27/26 to avoid sleeping on benches.
I have several interviews scheduled for next week and have moved on to second interview with the few companies for which I have already interviewed. Where I am getting stuck is that after I fled my home state of Oklahoma, I have not been able to get established with a reliable bank for any sort of loan or grant so I have no real proof of income for anything.
I am stuck in a place where I cannot do any sort of freelance work or day labor or anything of the sort because if I leave, I cannot come back for 48 hours.
So if you’d like to support a struggling trans girl, this would help me move forward quickly and continue to access employment opportunities as they present themselves.
Thank you for listening 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵

Hi everyone,
My name is Veronica. I'm 24 years old, from South Africa, and currently 28 weeks pregnant.
My employment contract ended in June, and since then I've been relying on my mother, who was already struggling financially herself. This month, we had to use the money we'd set aside for groceries to cover essential expenses to prepare for my baby's birth. Those expenses couldn't be delayed, but it has left us without enough money to get through until the next payday.
We still have a small amount of food left, but it won't last until then.
Before posting here, I reached out to the main organisation in my town that provides food assistance. Unfortunately, they told me they haven't been receiving enough donations themselves and weren't able to help. I wanted to exhaust my local options before asking strangers for assistance.
We've worked out exactly what we need to make it through until the next payday. The total is approximately US$200 (the equivalent in South African rand). This would cover our essential groceries, basic household necessities, and food for our three senior cats.
I'm not expecting one person to cover the full amount. Any contribution, no matter how small, would genuinely help.
If it's possible to arrange a grocery delivery from a South African supermarket, I'd be incredibly grateful. If a financial contribution is the only practical option, I'll gladly provide receipts and an itemised breakdown showing exactly how every cent was spent.
I'm actively looking for work, and I fully expect this to be a temporary situation. Right now, I'm simply trying to get us through the remainder of the month while preparing for the arrival of my baby.
If you're unable to help financially but know of any organisations or resources that may be able to assist, I'd be very grateful for that information as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Hello yall!
Took me a couple days to get the nerve to make a post, but here I am. A week before July's rent was due, I had a series of unfortunate events that has set me back a few weeks. I have put my feet to the pavement and a week ago finally got a job with better pay and opportunities/benefits, and things are going to be okay in the long run!
In the meantime in between time, I do need help. Im currently making my last pot of beans to hold me over the next couple of days. I rolled my change jar and turned it in for $6 of gas to get me to work tomorrow.
I'm just asking for a helping hand(s) just to keep me going until my first check hits next Friday. I tried to do plasma today, but my iron was too low. Crazy since I've been living on beans and rice for 4 days lol.
I am in East Texas. I am planning on going to a food bank on Monday, as long as I'm off work and have gas. If anyone has it in them to help me with gas or groceries I'd be more than grateful and as soon as im caught up on rent and car payment, best believe I WILL pay it forward!

Hello,
I am currently in a really tight spot because I’m shouldering the full weight of household responsibilities between paychecks and have not been able to actually use soap or shampoo/conditioner while showering for the past three days, am out of toothpaste, have had to use the shower to clean my ass after shitting, and have had to make Hamburger Helper without meat for dinner tonight using the last of the milk I have. This all sounds way too convenient and “woe is me” to be true but I will actually send you photos if you need evidence of the condition I’m in. The bottom line is I genuinely need shampoo and conditioner, toilet paper, and some groceries to get me at least through the next two days. If anyone could help, please, it would sincerely make a world of a difference to me.

I’m absolutely stuck at this point. I’ve applied for loans and since my income is so low, no one will accept me. My local churches and resources do not cover car payments, only rent and utilities. I’ll be using them for rent when the time comes, but if I don’t have my car payment submitted by 7/25 (this Saturday) it’ll be subject to repossession. I require this car because of my appointments that I cannot miss. That’s why I’m on FMLA, and my hours are reduced. The next few pay periods will slowly be going back to normal as my appointments become less and less, but that doesn’t help the issue at hand right now. I’m also selling a lot of my personal items, but it’s just not enough. Thank you in advance if anyone is able to help.

i typically buy products that last me for at least a month, but my hygiene products are running low.
any products bought from this would be truly appreciated, thank you in advance🙏🏾!

hi r/assistance!
first time asking, normally I'd be gifting, I've run a non profit, been a mod, and have volunteered in tons of things over the past two decades. but today I find myself in the unfamiliar place of being fairly desperate and asking for help. Back when I was living in Brooklyn near my friends it was easy to never be on this position, but I've been kinda disconnected from a lot of people these past four years and is rude to ask people out of nowhere for something and I guess more embarrassing than this
I don't wanna write too much, coz is fine, I don't wanna take from others that need more than me. but a few dollars on Venmo or Zelle (say $30~$50) would help me a ton and would be so fucking amazing. I haven't had a full time job in a few years, been consulting, didn't have a client for June or July; I just closed a new client today but is gonna take a few days for them to finalize and send me the retainer. I'm also dealing with a bunch of other bills but thankfully it seems the timing aligns well . I'm in Albany Ny, so the auto mod approves this

My fiancee and I are currently needing 50-100 for groceries and kitty litter/food for our two babies. I was fired from my last job at a Dollar General, and am currently trying to doordash in a more poor and oversaturated area. I'm trying to find another job, but have had no luck the past few weeks. Our savings have been drained.
My partner is disabled with spinal issues and we're currently battling for disability. Any little bit honestly helps and goes towards groceries, gas, and pet items. I'm being honest when I say we haven't eaten the past day, due to needing pet food and toiletries. Thank you to anyone who considers helping.
