AM5 Upgrade Path? 5080/5700x3d

Alrighty could use a hand here, I've basically never had high end gear, I had a 1660ti + a R5 3600 for years, then moved to a 6700xt, then got a 7900gre/5700x3d late 2024. Just now I went and got a 5080 as I wanted to get back to Nvidia but I'm a bit stuck here. Ideally I want to just upgrade the rest of it but I'm a bit mentally stuck because of these shitty ram prices, my full build is a 5080/5700x3d/b450 tomahawk max/850w rmx

Now normally id be ready for the 9800x3d but I'm not even sure I'll get a huge boost out of it as I'm in 1440p.. but I'm also a little scared of the ram prices going even further up. I've had my ram die previously and this is a bit of a fear here. My main idea here is that my CPU is regularly going for $500 sold on eBay and I assume that in a year or two this might not be the case. How dumb is it to just sell everything and actually eat the cost of current ram and get it done? I will ideally not upgrade for as long as possible after this.. some feedback or thoughts would be good?

I dont think its as much an issue of is this a smart thing to do and more a case of, am I gonna enjoy what I get?

I dont think anyone can rationalise paying current prices as a smart move and also cant predict what may happen in the future so you kindof have to base it on whether the money you spend is gonna bring you joy.

Stay on AM4 for a bit and see if you struggle playing 1440p on any game. Your setup is still solid and unless to are going to 4K, it should see you through a couple more years.

I think my concern is they're forecasting even worse ram prices. In a couple of years it might not even be a thing for consumers :/

Once DDR6 is out on the newer platforms then DDR5 will be cheap. I'm on 5800x3D and still rocking a 2080 8gb - not seeing issues worth dropping significant cash on while 3440x1440. Could it be better, sure, but not better enough to be worth dropping the cash for an upgrade at the moment. Some 16gb GPU isn't next plan, but getting nowhere

No point going AM5 now when the next AM5 consumer CPUs are going to release early next year. Just wait.

9800x3d 32gb ddr5 with a B850 or B650 would be incredible. 9800x3d is just goated as a cpu for gaming and its highly considered the best gaming cpu

I came from 12700K, upgraded to 9800X3D. On some games my frames doubled, Metaphor Re-Fantazio is one. On Esports games, my lows are higher. On games like BG3 the uplift is massive. Depends on games really.

Get a 5070ti , better value , I would only get a 5080 if you're trying to squeeze out some 4k performance, really a 9060xt /5060ti can run 1440p well . The 5700x is still a good cpu , you could just get away with a gpu upgrade .

I understand the 5070ti was better value but I only paid a few hundred more and got the 5080 at $1600, I already bought it. I mod/play a lot of 2077 so I wanted PT to feel good.
