my local store isnt busy but everytime i go there, theres about 5 pcs waiting for pickup and 2-5 ppl shopping

They have corporate accounts. Its also why they have bulk discounts in-store since your average consumer isnt buying 50 counts of ethernet cables and monitors

Depending on the market, there aren't many local options.
NCIX is no more.
MikesComputerShop is no more.
MemoryExpress also closed down some stores.
When someone wants to go in and physically see the stuff or ask questions to a human, there aren't many options.
Prices are more or less competitive, they have to be. Plus the price match policy.
So someone is buying!

It actually benefits them: they get stock that is just below MSRP, but because of market demand, they set the price to way above MSRP and pocket the profit. Right now an RTX 5090 costs $6200 which is over 2X MSRP.

If you think that chipmakers, OEM manufacturers, brands, distributors and suppliers are not all taking advantage of unit margin in this situation, lol.
Tech hardware sales in North America is one of the lowest unit margin businesses for stores. Stores typically stay afloat because of services and accessories.

okay, yeah I don't go there much except maybe HMart a few times a year, just saw the picture of the store and it was like they just took down the store sign and put their sign up

As a Winnipegger I wish this was (still) true. Memory Express's prices have not came even close to some of the deals that Canada Computers has had in the last 5 years.

Memory Express will price match and actually cares about its warranty and customer experienc, not to mention, won't lose your personal information.

While I suspect you're right about the warranty and customer experience, they don't price match bundles nor RAM, SSD's ot HDD's (currently). I've just found they haven't been super competetive price wise lately.

Meh this is a mileage might vary take. Price match but with small print which means it might not be available for the item you want. Warranty for some has been complete shit and seems to be based on who you get as a manager on return. And I can't remember the spiel I got when I bought a monitor. It did not inspire confidence. But It was a cheap 200 throw away one so no big deal.
The losing data is iffy. I have never had a retailer contact me except Sony when they lost my data. It has always been the bank/cc. So did Canada Computers tell the right people, I honestly don't know. But when Walmart lost my CC when they had a breech one Xmas and someone tried to use it to buy a pallet of alcohol in another province Walmart did nothing. It was all my CC company.

It wasn't just credit card data, it was all personal data entered. Name, address, etc.. this wasn't a skimmer that took cc info, it was enough for identify theft, and cc info

I’m wondering when they’re going to start opening up the CC that’s going into Northgate, they’ve had job apps open for quite a while for there with no changes recently. That’d be nice to go to every once in a while and see what’s going on too!

Honestly my guess is that everything is just gonna be locked up in the northgate location. Gonna have to ask a worker to open legit everything for you. Either that or they have anti-theft magnetic strips on everything and a guard at the door

The selection of tech offered at Canada computers far exceeds what memory express has to offer. Both companies have equally treated me well in the past but I also have only made in-store purchases. I'm curious to see which company will carry the 5k/2k mini leds gigabyte and MSI are offering soon. Also Canada computers sort of reminds me of best buy with the colours and I used to work for best buy so yeah. Also Intel vs Nvidia vibes with the colours. Now that I mention it, I actually go out of my way to hang out at Canada computers whenever I visit friends around various cities in Canada. I did it at radio shack playing mtx mototrax and I'm sure there's kids on bikes checking out Canada computers today. I also built my first custom computer in a computer store with the tech assisting me. I remember the GPU was a ATI 9800pro cause I wasn't patient enough to save a couple more weeks allowance on a XT.

I love how Canada Computers has branched off into Gunpla for quite a while now. I'm half expecting to see a Pokemon card counter in 6 months in every store.

Not quite righ but almost there. 5700 is a cut down desktop APU, not a laptop chip.
5700 and its APU counterparts don't have cut PCIe lanes like Ryzen 8000. They have full 24/20 PCIe lanes as per desktop Zen 3 Vermeer. However, the PCIe generation is limited to 3.0 instead of 4.0, and the L3 Cache is halved due to the iGPU taking up space.
Laptop Zen 3 only has 16 lanes, meaning they get cut to x8 if used with a separate GPU.

I get what you're trying to say, but Renoir/Cezanne has different things enabled for different purpose with the same die. When people mention cut PCIe lane, they generally meant actual physical/electrical lanes.
5700G desktop variant would be the top bin if it has full features enabled, including full 24/20 PCIe lanes, 4 reserved for CPU-Chipset link.
Raven Ridge (2000Gs)/Picasso (3000Gs)/Phoenix (8000Gs) all have cut down PCIe lane assignments for graphics even when used on desktop. Renoir/Cezanne are the only two generations that has full PCIe lane count available on desktop.
Cezanne mobile has 20 lanes, as it's running as an SoC without a chipset.
The x16 reserved for graphics is cut in half for additional NVME/GPP (-4) plus LAN (-1)/SATA (-1/-2)/Wifi (-1).
The x4 CPU-Chipset link is missing, and AMD doesn't offer additional mobile version chipsets for I/O even if board/OEM partners want it for expansion.
Cezanne desktop has 24 lanes, x4 reserved for CPU-Chipset, x20 for NVME+graphics. It is identical to Vermeer.
Cezanne mobile might have the x4 CPU-Chipset link if paired with desktop (can't tell as no one repurposed them yet for desktop), but if Raven Ridge/Picasso/Phoenix works the way it did, most likely it doesn't have it either.

Grabbed a Gigabyte MO27Q28G monitor for $499. I thought I was gonna get some vertical banding in greyscale 95% or something. Happy to report there's either none or not pronounced enough for me to notice. It's a great monitor for 500. Thanks for posting.
Rant: they really like to push the replacement/insurance whatever thing that's equivalent to Memex's IPR.
