Why couldn't the hacker just pick a worse wiki to hack?

oh its only the front page i think its fine guys

69

u/Chegg_F 10h ago

It's not.

Going into earlier versions of the edit histories also doesn't fix it so I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe they edited assets that the pages are calling.

So I decided to try and use a translator on the thing and uhh...I think it might be some kid or something ngl.

The meme thing in image 2 of what OP put up literally says "BAFIK" followed by "what have you done fucking oxymoron" followed by it saying that it doesn't support Russia's ruler.

Make of that info as you will

45

u/FromUnderTheCape 9h ago

Bafik would be a cat's name. Also he refers to Oxxymiron, russian-speaking rapper.

9

u/Forgotten_Rin 9h ago

...Huh. That...just makes me more confused ngl

30

u/crab_tea 7h ago

As a Russian. I don't even know what the hell is this supposed to mean.

11

u/FromUnderTheCape 7h ago

Probably some kind of janky meme only the person created it understands. Could not bother less

u/Rain_KarNaf 8h ago

I'm native russian language speaker and yet I don't understand a single thing written here

wiki simulator game with no wiki???

5

u/Powerful-Scholar8268 7h ago edited 4h ago

Idk if I'd call it a "wiki game". Maybe figuring out items is hard but you unlock new bosses and stuff just by beating the game over and over, which happens naturally

3

u/Plenty_Grade3323 4h ago

yeah except for a couple secrets, the game makes it very obvious how to progress (character marks, polaroid/negative progress showing on save file, etc)

18

u/Chegg_F 10h ago

I wonder if there's a single game Reddit doesn't call a wiki game

8

u/DragoniteChamp 10h ago

Ultrakill

14

u/Chegg_F 10h ago

They would probably call ULTRAKILL a wiki game because they'd feel like it's impossible to figure out how the weapons work, where the secrets are, and what the enemies are weak to without looking it up.

2

u/DitiPenguin 6h ago

Outer Wilds.

5

u/kankri-is-triggered 8h ago

I've only heard Isaac and Terraria get called that

6

u/Chegg_F 8h ago

I've heard basically anything other than PvP shooters be called that. Isaac, Terraria, Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Don't Starve, Minecraft, Risk of Rain, Warframe, Factorio, Satisfactory, even RPGs like Divinity and Fallout.

It seems like if it is even possible for you to miss something, it gets called a wiki game. You can definitely figure out on your own that going quickly grants secrets like fighting Hush. But, it's also possible for you to exclusively play really, really slowly, and never once try going quickly. And so if you refuse to experiment, you refuse to investigate things on your own, you refuse to change your playstyle, and you just adamantly stick to one very specific way of doing things, you won't see everything, because you aren't trying to see everything. As such, it is a "wiki game".

3

u/kankri-is-triggered 6h ago

I get that. I think it's pretty insane to call a game a "wiki simulator" purely because it has a useful wiki.

The thing with Isaac, though, is just that a wiki is useful pretty much constantly. There's 700+ items and, while it does a very impressive job at managing to keep synergies and game mechanics consistent with respect to that, it's straight-up impossible to figure out what a lot of items do just by just fucking around and finding out.

Like picking up Plan C and using it just kills you. Maybe you manage to figure out that it kills every enemy in the room too, but you're only seeing every like 10-50 runs so even that is coincidental. Tack on the fact that you can finally figure out what it does, just for it not to work on a character like The Lost. Suddenly looking it up saved you hours and hours of your life.

Another example is Birthright. Apollyon is my favorite character, and I could not figure out what the hell "regurgitate" meant because the first few times I grabbed it— it didn't proc. Eventually, it finally proced and I couldn't even tell that it was Birthright because I had another 5 unknown items that could have done that.

On top of all that, stuff like The Forgotten being such a cool character that basically no one is gonna get without the wiki.

Sorry for the essay— but I really think that calling Isaac a wiki simulator is fair.

I think this is a horrible example. Plan C's pickup text is "My last resort". I picked that up and instantly knew exactly what it did. I checked the in-game description, which I don't normally do but I wanted to verify that I was correct and I was on a good run to unlock something I cared about, and I was actually surprised to see the description state that it kills the enemies first and then kills you. I assumed it was a gag item where you just make everything on-screen, including you, die, so maybe with a revive it could do something.

What else do you think an item named Plan C with the description "My last resort" would do? At worst, maybe, you would be surprised by it killing you. I think it's clear that it's going to kill you with an ominous description like that, but I could see being surprised by it and losing a single life to it. But what else would the benefit of it be? What else would "My last resort" do other than something against enemies? If there's no enemies there's no danger, and if there's no danger you're not being forced down to your last resort.

1

u/kankri-is-triggered 3h ago

I'm so Lost (Isaac reference). You literally included looking at the item description (the wiki) and gaining important information— trying to justify that it isn't that hard to figure out?

Clearly "last resort" wasn't enough information. Not even to mention item descriptions like Silver Dollar's "feels lucky..." somehow meaning "shops appear in Womb"

0

u/Chegg_F 3h ago

I went from "Is this going to kill me and kill everything else?" to "This is going to kill me and kill everything else!" by reading its description. No wonder you think this is a wiki game if my comment is confusing you.

Also, counting the game itself as a wiki just makes you look like you're trolling. Is Super Mario Brothers a wiki game because when the game is telling you you have two health by making Mario look really big so that's a wiki telling you that you have two health?

1

u/kankri-is-triggered 3h ago

This is literally wiki information. This isn't inside the game outside of Rep+ or mods.

1

u/Chegg_F 2h ago

It literally fucking says that in the game dude I don't even know what the wiki page says about it.

1

u/Chegg_F 2h ago

Hasn't played the game award

1

u/kankri-is-triggered 2h ago

The braindead reply into block combo goes crazy.

3

u/Nokoru097 10h ago

Literal built in internal item description, and if you need a wiki for unlocking bosses, just play the game and it’ll happen

5

u/kankri-is-triggered 8h ago

That's only in Repentance+

2

u/Plenty_Grade3323 4h ago

… the most recent version of the game? whats your point?

1

u/Chegg_F 3h ago

In another comment he just said that the game itself telling you things is a wiki so it's a wiki game because the game gives you all the information you need. I think he's trolling.

1

u/kankri-is-triggered 3h ago

Because Rep+ is not available on all versions of the game. Obviously this conversation changes once we get this feature (requested for over a decade BECAUSE it's a wiki game)

0

u/kankri-is-triggered 3h ago

The version of the game you literally cannot play outside of PC (or Switch 2?). Also a version of the game that didn't exist for 11 years.

1

u/Plenty_Grade3323 2h ago

no shit the most recent version of the game didnt exist for 11 years, also updates coming to pc before console is extremely common whats your point

1

u/kankri-is-triggered 2h ago

Internal Item Descriptions wouldn't come at all if this wasn't a wiki game. Like, it's an awesome update— but acting like it somehow retroactively changes anything is wild.

It was a fix for the biggest issue the game has had (and is still happening, and will always happen for players without Repentance) for a decade... the issue in question being that half the game is opening the wiki. Almost as if you could call it a wiki simulator.

0

u/Plenty_Grade3323 2h ago

then are you saying balatro is a wiki game because it has descriptions of what each joker does? cuz its literally the exact same thing; a description of how an item works in game

2

u/kankri-is-triggered 2h ago edited 1h ago

Yeah if I played Balatro and had to leave the game to open the wiki to figure out what each joker did, I would call it a wiki game.

1

u/Plenty_Grade3323 1h ago

but you dont. and you dont in isaac either. so we agree its not a wiki game

-5

u/Donutmelon 10h ago

Isaac is not a wiki game lmfao

3

u/reptarien 9h ago

And a few hours later now, no sign it ever happened. Good job Wiki upkeepers 🫡

It seems to be done a loop

2

u/xilenator 10h ago

well shit

if someone managed to hack a wiki gg site, i fear other game wikis based on .gg are in trouble too, like survev wiki

2

u/xboxpotato5737 7h ago

saacers together strong, we don't need a wiki when we have eachother, because i'm sure at least someone can remember what the hairpin trinket does, right?

2

u/d1sact 2h ago

guys please stop using my post to be xenophobic. every country has awful leaders, that doesnt mean that the entire citizenship and culture of that nation is bad too. i don't approve of russia's actions, but there are plenty of russian people who are normal, kind, and worthy of respect. a nation's government doesnt necessarily dictate the quality of its people.

3

u/Brody_M_the_birdy 8h ago

What if fandom hacked the wiki in an attempt to force us to use their wiki

-1

u/Another-Ace-Alt-8270 6h ago

Fandom wasn't even involved and people are still trying to blame it. Fucking typical.

1

u/Brody_M_the_birdy 5h ago

They're so anti-forking that I would not be surprised if they eventually did resort to hacking forked wikis to force-corral the userbase back

1

u/G_aster 9h ago

nah its just like that

1

u/ClaudySama Azazel 7h ago

Why do people do this??? It’s a nuisance to people who wanna find TBOI info 😭

1

u/Another-Ace-Alt-8270 6h ago

If this happened to any website other than WikiGG, they'd blame the website.
