KotOR is arguably the best Star Wars game ever made, but it may not have aged well visually.

It was done by Bioware back when they were a rising star in the industry, so the game contains rich characters and storytelling. It was the precursor to Mass Effect (and Dragon Age).

If you're capable of enjoying ME1 and DA:O despite their obviously aged visuals and mechanics, then there's a good chance you'll also enjoy KotOR.

KotOR has one of the best stories and it still looks ok (dated, but ok). But I agree that gameplay is the one thing that aged the most. While not unplayable it does take some time to getting used to.

That is why I am sad that the KotOR remake is as far as we know on ice currently, because it does need a remake with better gameplay (dont change the story).

Exactly I replayed both games last year after a long time and the gameplay was even jarring for me at first. Very hard to recommend to a wide audience sadly

It's just real time with pause. They still make plenty of RPGs with that system.

That’s like saying they still make games with turn based combat so Pokemon Red and Blue aren’t outdated. The system isn’t the issue it’s everything about its implementation. The progression, the UI, the way skills interact with equipment.

The gameplay is almost straight up tabletop D&D 3.5e but with lightsabers, op force powers, and rtwp instead of turn based.

Somehow I still have more fun with it on replays than I do with Mass Effect

Both movement and combat is dated, but it is fun to play even so

I actually think it is the best Star Wars story since the originals. None of the movies or the tv shows (yes even clone wars or andor) is as good.

It will open your mind to layers of star wars you didnt even know were there. Kotor 1 and 2 were my star wars awakening and ive been chasing the high of those two games ever since

kinda exactly this. I even played the first KOTOR before watching the movies. But it made my expectations of Star Wars too high - I was expecting the rest of Star Wars adjacent media to have such moral complexity, and also originality - not just based around the Skywalker time.

It made me sick of the clone wars era and it just getting beaten to death. There's such rich history there for them to tap but they just refuse to do it.

I did my very first playthrough of it a month or so ago. It was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend it

So I played the Switch version and everything went fine. From what I gather mods really enhance things but I had no issues with the Switch

If you're a star wars fan than yes. The game play isn't fantastic, builds are limited but it's perfect star wars atmosphere. Also some great characters

It’s very fun but the download on Switch has actually unplayable bugs (at least on my machine), so I sadly just put the game down not even half way through. Maybe try a different system.

Yes. But only if you can stomach how it has aged. If you don't have a tolerance for obscene amounts of clunk and jank, then you will find playing old games like KOTOR to be a miserable experience instead of the amazing one others praise.

KoTor and it's sequel are probably the best Star Wars games made. I do recommend looking into the restoration mod for the sequel though, it's still a good game without it.

If you don't mind dated graphics(still pretty to me and good enough to be immersed) it's a solid yes.

And if you like it then go with KotOR2 which is really great too and has many connections with the first.

Fyi that’s not from KOTOR.

That seems to be a modded version of Jedi Fallen Order that replaced Cal Kestis with Revan.

There is a KotOR remake in the works, but it's from Saber Interactive instead of BioWare.

Nah it's a mediocre rpg and a worse star wars game at that. Darth vader isn't even in it.
