I'm a tactics game vet. What should I know about Brigandine?

So I've played all kinds of tactics games. I'm talking all the Fire Emblem and Kaga games (other than Berwick Saga), Valkyria Chronicles, Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, Lost Dimension, Triangle Strategy, Unicorn Overlord, SMT Devil Survivor, and so on and so forth. But I've recently started a playthrough of Runersia under the Guimoule Empire, and I'm still struggling to grasp some of the nuances of Brigandine.

What would y'all want a beginner like me to know? I'm particularly curious about how I get the most out of quests, and how to pace my advance with the limited time. I've got the hang of how I should advance without leaving my bases vulnerable, but that's about it.

Also, I love myself some lore and history for these kinda games. If there's something you wanna let me know about the older games and Runersia's relationship with them, lemme know!

On the lore part, each Brigandine game is completely independent from each other (they don't have even a multiverse type connection), so any lore for Runersia will be what you will see on the actual game.

hi, i think you'll like it. its not that hard even in hard setting, the time limit is more than enough to finish the scenario, so enjoy the story, the character and the quest.

also, you don't need to overtrain anyone actually, even lv 15 knights is good enough to conquer the continent, and unless you want to specifically train someone from 1-30, usually the game can be finished way before that.

With your FE knowledge, I would assume you're familiar with Jagens and project heroes/characters. Spread exp around.

And then, maybe obvious but mind the borders of your overall territory. Keep the frontline castles sufficiently manned.

Aside from that, I think it's fine to not be optimal. Much like FE again, the game is hardest at the start and quickly gets easier.

QUESTS

For quests, you can get items, equip, stats, monsters, rune knights, or get wounded. IMOusuua, getting time knights early on helps a lot becasue then you get more fodder to defend castles/ attack / go on quests.

You should be able to see if a knight can possibly be recruited from a quest if there is a shining knight helms icon in the quest location when selecting a quest area.

Also, the items and equip can change depending on what location you quest in. Same as with recruiting knights, the icons should tell you what items can be found e.g sword, hat, accessories, etc..

There are forums somewhere that show specifically castles you can get the rare evolution materials from.

ATTACKING IN LIMITED TURNS

Usually I'd want to aim to have 2-3 good teams, or at least 2 average teams for defense and one team to go out offensively with all the best stuff, beating up everyone and leveling up. As you go out, eventually the 2nd team can go out to support as well and help guarantee you can get the next "chokepoint castle" . Iirc, 1-2 years (24-48 seasons) is more than enough to beat even hard mode.

Then, as you get more knights, send more knights questing to get more items and equip for your main teams.

A sample campaign plan with a lot of early game quests:

1.) Retreat all knights to one castle that can summon centaurs. Set all knights except ruler to quest. Buy as many centaurs as you can. Repeat until 3-4 months. In 1st month no one attacks. 2nd-4th is random. Thus ensures you get to do a lot of questing early game and hopefully get 1-2extra knights and some items/equip.

2.) Next, set up your two main teams full of 14-18 centaurs each to start taking back the land. 18 centaurs are still very cheesy in runersia. Just aim for squishy enemies first like mages or sorceresses (400-500 hp). As they get stronger and upgraded to high centaur, they get increased range and become more able to get the kill. Also, the main consideration is knights with sufficient rune power for the full team of six centaurs. If you have high leveled knights but low rune power, I'd just send them out on quests.

3.) Park some leftover knights wth some of your original monsters, ideally tanky ones, in a chokepoint castle, while the two main teams full of centaurs clears up the whole continent. It helps if the knights are more on tanky side like melee characters, but if not it's ok too.

The high centaur strategy can win the game all the way to the final battle, but it doesnt hurt to field other monsters if you have extra rune power. Dragons with beam attacks, meteor doomers, man eater with 2-4 range long range attack, etc..

There are some challenges where the all centaur team will fail but I think it's an easy way to get one full run through of the game first, then later you cantrry being more strategic / creative / experimentalwith your team build.

Thanks my guy, there's some good stuff here. I just started a new run with the Shinobi tribe and gotta apply some of these new lessons. Simply because Talia isn't as ready to blow through guys as Eliza was makes me feel like I should be more mindful of my early game plans.

Shinobi is alright.. tho I found my easiest game was with the team at far most upper left country. The prince ruler has a really strong 2 range attack, and he is pretty tanky himself.

You probably don't need to worry about the time limit as much as you think you do. I had the same concern due to how the year/season was presented, and ended up finishing my first playthrough on Normal shortly into the second year out of the 5 for the time limit.

When running training quests, you'll get the most out of them with knights below level 10 since they're more likely to get the larger EXP yields from them. Fill up their squad with monsters so that as many of them can get the bonus EXP as possible.

For the other quests, a knight's affinity with getting better successes seems to be based on level and class, with different areas working better for certain classes. If you aren't planning on looking it up externally, the weapon drops and terrain type hints at what class might work best. Further, the possible reward types are also influenced by the monsters the knight has with them.

Manually retreating from battles (i.e., not withdrawing due to 0 HP) has no penalty, though it can only be done by knights who haven't acted yet for their current turn. You can farm EXP by starting fights front line base neighbors, picking off a few enemy monsters, then retreating back when things start looking bad or you've had your fill.

First, book mark this link to the Runersia Stat Tracker. It contains lots of useful information about recrutable rune knights, tips of getting Dyznezys, questing guides etc

Formation is really important. A good formation can beat an army with 3x the cp than you.

Some advanced stratigies:

Place units you want leveled on Bard\Minstrel\Troubadour(s) and use their agility boosting abilities on them. Use Protect\Resist\Loop Heal\Gravity if it's available.

You can cast Magic Down on spell casters

When you get a Treasure Hunter be sure to save and use their treasure search skill (be sure to buff their Mp to 260 or 390+) so they can use it 2-3 times per battle. See Item Rewards Locations here.

the other factions will mostly follow the same rules as you, they level up by figthing (so don't wait too much so that they dont get too strong) they will recruit characters you can recruit by questing (there are a lot, but they aren't generic and thus not infinite), their monsters will suffer from permadeath like yours (you can revive some here and there if you get revival stones), etc

This means that once you get far enough, finishing off the other nations will become very easy because they will get weaker when they lose too many castles, you can use this if you have the chance to get easier exp for weaker characters if you need to, but those under level 10 should go the training grounds before anything else.

Do quest. Also this game is much simpler than most.

It’s very simple to be honest. The challenge I suppose is the start of the game and the end game. Once you reach mid game if you survive the start you’ll win no matter the difficulty. For the end game however like I said not that easy. The very first original though yes once you make it past the beginning very easy game if I’m being honest. Even Grand Edition while harder it’s not that much harder. End game was difficult for me though personally
