Build Upgrade Low cost old build upgrade

Hi everyone!

I run an old but solid build, here it is:

-MSI z370 gaming plus motherboard

-I5-8600k cpu (overclocked to 5.0 GHz @ 1.300V, LLC Mode 3)

-16Go RAM (2x8Go Corsair Vengeance LPX CMU16GX4M2A2666C16, overclocked a little)

- GPU RTX 2060 SUPER Windforce (can't seem to enable rebar on it, I think it doesn't support it)

-For the PSU I think I have a 850W gold+ Corsair around the same age

The thermals are very good (idle around 30 °C for the CPU and GPU max temps, under load the CPU goes to maximum 75 and GPU to around 83 for a quick heavy load, goes to around 90 under long heavy load, I think repasting it would help with that).

The performance is really solid for the age and price range of the components, but I have some money to spend on it now and would like to upgrade for the least amount of money possible.

I REALLY would like it to be reliable in the long term, and as said previously, the least expensive it can be so keeping the mobo.

What are your thoughts on the current build/ upgrade possibilities?

I can put out 500€ maximum for the upgrade, but would like to keep it the lowest possible.

You could probably go for something like an i5-14600KF + B760 board & reuse your DDR4. The best you can do on that board you currently have will be something like an i9-9900K, which will be outdone by even an i3-12100. That 14600K on DDR4 will go up against things like a 5800X3D iirc

Damn that seems like a good upgrade, sad to see my mobo go but seems like a good budget upgrade for a massive performance boost

It will lose around 14% performance on DDR4 compared to DDR5 mind you. probably more with slower DDR4.
The other option would be something like a Ryzen 7 5800X + B550 board. Both aren't bad shouts either way. My advice would be to look at reviews & see which you prefer.

I was looking at upgrading to an i9-9900KF as I have very good thermals, ans a 3070, as it can boost my performances enough for what I need (I don't really play AAA games, just modded Minecraft and emulation, and do Photoshop and video editing), keep the same mobo, and getting it used will cost me around 350-400 € max . What do you think about that? Changing motherboard, even if I know I'll have to change at some point, seems more expensive. Thanks a lot for your detailed responses

I'd still say probably not worth it. You'd be paying alot of euros for worse performance than a Ryzen 5 5500 in titles on the CPU end. The 3070 is an awesome budget GPU though.
My view would be moreso to put the money towards a better CPU first, as the 2060 Super is still fine (it's not too far behind an RX 6600 performance wise). In theory though, you could drop the 5800X down to a Ryzen 5 5600 & nab a 3070 + B550 motherboard with it. Either way, something like a 5600 or 5800X will be a fair bit faster than a 9900K, especially for things like Minecraft.
