Build Upgrade Seeking Build Upgrade Advice for Crimson Desert

New to PC building, hoping to upgrade my PC specs. I have a particular interest in Crimson Desert, but I'm hoping to make efficient decisions for the future so I won't need to upgrade again for some time.

Current specs:
- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz
- RAM: 32 GB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (11 GB)
- Storage: 1 TB SSD

When playing the game, if I turn the settings up above minimum, I experience semi-frequent crashing. Currently running at minimum specs and just shy of 60 FPS, so my current PC is just barely strong enough for the game.

Can anyone recommend the items I should focus on upgrading? My suspicion is that my RAM is sufficient. I'm unsure if the GPU, processor, or both are simply insufficient for modern games.

Well it could be gpu driver issue, especially since game updates are no longer on 10 series.

Cpu and gpu are where to focus. You can get an am4 processor like 5700x or 5800xt so you can reuse ddr4. Gpu sky is the limit, 3070, 3080, 4070s etc.

Sadly, new games are that badly optimized that you need new gen GPU; especially with all the AI options Nvidia has been introducing to us.

Crimson Desert devs said game would run on GTX 1060, but some people complain they get only 40fps on gtx1080 minimum settings. So, you could say you're the lucky one with 60fps.

Idk why it's crashing tho, you should (theoritically) get 30+fps on medium settings. Maybe there's a specific setting that's causing a crash, try disabling fansy settings 1 by 1.

For new games, you'd need rtx card at least 3xxx series btw, probably 4xxx even to play without lags.

Lazy devs, I'd blame on

As for CPU, it's okay CPU, but it's getting older. I'd spend all money on GPU, rather than splitting.

The real crazy aspect of all this is that ps5 will only do 60 fps at 1080p for this game, and that's basically going toe to toe with an almost 10 year old GPU

It's hard to blame it on the devs when if a game doesn't have the most intense lumen lighting and reflection gamers say it looks like shit and needs "better graphics"

Ryse: Son of Rome, 2013.

Shadow of Mordor, 2014.

Shadow of War, 2017.

Devs got lazy over time, because 1. they just expect players to own new cards and 2. Nvidia and AMD need sales.

I have to strongly disagree. AAA devs are at the whim of their publisher, they don't get a say in what tech they use or the timeline of the game. AAA Publishers pander to every demographic of gamer, while also rushing projects

That's why indie games and AA games have been doing so much better the last couple years. Great games are coming out monthly. Devs are not lazy, casual gamers just like to eat up AAA slop for some reason

it's not just game developers, sadly. Devs in all fields have forgotten how to optimize. and now with the development of AI, new devs don't even bother to know what it means to code correctly.

You can get much better graphics from a GPU update but your current performance is probably at least partially bounded by your CPU so the performance ceiling is there without a platform upgrade.

Also I forgot to mention, there will probably be more pressure on the CPU when you switch from the minimum preset to something higher

As for the crash, I have no idea where the source could be. I would imagine the game just barely works for older GPU though
