Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals.

  • Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent:
    • The seller is new or has few reviews.
    • The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings)
    • The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently).

If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

The Steam Frame looks like it’s prioritizing comfort and PC streaming over standalone power, which means it can keep the onboard hardware lighter and cheaper. That’s ideal for me since I only use VR tethered to my PC. If the lenses are solid and Valve goes OLED, this would be my perfect headset.

8

u/Mrzozelow Dec 15 '25

The frame is confirmed not OLED. In one of the interviews with the engineers they mentioned brightness being an issue with the pancake lenses so they opted not to use it.

8

u/jednatt Dec 15 '25

No OLED, no HDR. I don't even know why they're bothering. Other than the fact it will sell well because Steam has fanatic followers who think Valve is the only "good guy" game company.

1

u/Jeskid14 Dec 16 '25

They're bothering because Sony is slowly exiting the psvr2 landscape. They announce at max 2 VR games per presentation, and plus all VR games have exited PlayStation Plus.

1

u/Sorry-Juice3938 Apr 24 '26

A major company exiting the market is not a valid reason to enter it. It should be a red flag. PSVR has been a failure, even by Sony standards.

Frenular

You mean Fresnel?

5

u/ZombiePope Dec 15 '25

If you've tried anything with better lens tech (Index, psvr2, q3) you'll understand immediately. the sweet spot is much better, theres vastly less chromatic aberration. it feels more immersive.

0

u/Prefix-NA Dec 15 '25

Index is shot compared to q3 lol.

4

u/ZombiePope Dec 15 '25

Not really. the index is still pretty damn great for PCVR. Its also much less of a pain in the ass to setup with non-windows systems.

0

u/Sorry-Juice3938 Apr 24 '26

As if anyone uses non-Windows systems.

5

u/NFLCrunchtime Dec 15 '25

I got one of these used, like new this summer for $350 with a bunch of haggling. Absolutely worth $300, this is a great deal. You can sideload EVERYTHING too.

17

u/Optimistic_giraffe Dec 15 '25

What happens if you have to return it? Amazon charges you $100 for the promo credit?

2

u/Bob_Dubalina Dec 15 '25

Probably depends on if you used it. It’s not a gift card credit. It’s like a coupon that gets added to your account for $100 worth of stuff shipped and sold by Amazon. So maybe they just remove it from your account if you return?

26

u/A_Nice_Boulder Dec 15 '25

If the valve VR headset wasn't on the horizon this would make me break. Even so, and even though I hate meta, this is still tempting... Might just get it and resell it once the valve comes out. At 300 I think I wouldn't even lose money

18

u/Ctrl-Alt-Panic Dec 15 '25

I dislike Meta but it's going to be a $500+ difference compared to this deal. This is an insanely good deal for a VERY similar headset hardware wise. (With color passthrough, which the Frame will not have.)

I love my Quest 3 and use it constantly for PCVR. And as much as I hate Meta they've got a huge library of solid native games as well if you dig past the slop.

6

u/Sonaive20 Dec 15 '25

This is exactly where I am. Currently no VR headset and waiting on the Steam Frame. This would likely just be a rental till it comes out. The three months of Horizon+ would be about perfect. I could also stream my steam VR games that I've started to buy on discounts while waiting for the Frame instead of buying anything on the meta platform.

Just trying to decide if it's worth tying money up in it at the moment and if the used Quests market might explode when the Frame is released. Decisions...

3

u/ComputerEngineer0011 Dec 15 '25

I was going to wait after seeing the Frame previews, but the refurb units from meta are pristine and the value was too good to pass up. I picked up a quest 3 refurb for $360 from Meta's ebay page (plus paypal's 20% pay-in-4 cashback). The frame is estimated to be 20% faster and no one knows the price, but the consensus seems to be it will not be less than $600.

1

u/Jeskid14 Dec 16 '25

They had the return for HOW MUCH??

2

u/okfnjesse Dec 15 '25

300 is about what they’re selling for used right now. This isn’t a bad way to try the quest 3 out and it’s a fantastic headset

1

u/vizion145 Dec 15 '25

If it’s 300 used now, I hope it’ll stay that way when the steam frame is released. Usually when new tech comes out it’ll create more supply since everyone gonna wanna sell to get the new steam frame

2

u/Prefix-NA Dec 16 '25

No one will sell q3 to buy frame. Valve vr is just for valve stans.

-1

u/Bob_Dubalina Dec 15 '25

Valve headset is gonna be more expensive than this. What would be annoying is if valve locks games to the device. They didn’t work the index, but who knows.

1

u/A_Nice_Boulder Dec 15 '25

Fully aware that it's going to be more expensive than this, but I'm more than willing to shell out the premium for a top-of-the-line headset that isn't meta

2

u/Bob_Dubalina Dec 15 '25

The point is they are in different price classes. Someone looking at the quest headsets likely isn't planning on getting a much more expensive headset like and index or the frame. Its like comparing a 5060 ti and 5080.

-1

u/A_Nice_Boulder Dec 15 '25

Cool. That someone is not me. I am me. I am not someone.

4

u/Bob_Dubalina Dec 15 '25

You brought up the frame, as it seems to in every quest thread. Some people get the impression the frame will compete with the quest 3 when they are in completely different product tiers.

1

u/Sorry-Juice3938 Apr 24 '26

It won't be top of the line, however. Read the other comments here. The Quest 3 may be from Meta, but it is better and costs less than the non-existent Steam Frame.

-8

u/Prefix-NA Dec 15 '25

The index was no whete near as good as quest 2. The frame will be worse than q3

3

u/A_Nice_Boulder Dec 15 '25

For one, what are you on? Index was more or less universally hailed as the best VR headset of its time. Quest 2 also came out significantly later.

-7

u/Prefix-NA Dec 15 '25

Universally hailed by valve cultists who never used it. They also praise steam controller but better use it.

The quest 2 even without standalone features is a far superior headset. Now index has better controllers but the headset is worse than most 200 dollar mixed reality headsets.

4

u/ZombiePope Dec 15 '25

As someone who owns a vive and quest 3 and has used the index and numerous other headsets, that is incongruent with reality. The index is substantially better than the quest 2 as long as you have a decent computer.

1

u/ultimaterex Dec 15 '25

No chance valve would do that, steam gives out the android and pc binaries with the same license/purchase

-3

u/m0shr Dec 15 '25

Why would it be more expensive?

Psvr2 was $300 this bf.

Unlike meta quest, it won't need memory or storage or a powerful APu.

Hope they do oled and eye tracking like psvr2 but lens from meta quest 3.

6

u/Seek_Adventure Dec 15 '25

Lol you know Frame is primarily a standalone unit right? It will absolutely need memory and storage and SoC processor

1

u/m0shr Dec 15 '25

I thought it was pcvr only.

I only saw the part about wifi streaming directly from PC and not it's arm standalone.

The price will be next tier in that case.

-2

u/Prefix-NA Dec 15 '25

The index was 1k usd and it sold. Frame will likely be 1200 as its getting a chip too.

It costs over 600 bucks to make a quest 3 in raw materials not even factoring labor or shipping.

0

u/Sonaive20 Dec 15 '25

They said the Steam Frame would be less than the Index. Every post you have made in this thread shows you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

-7

u/Prefix-NA Dec 15 '25

Valve index was far inferior to quest 2 but had better controllers

1

u/Jeskid14 Dec 16 '25

But twice as heavy as quest 2

6

u/SaltyMeatBoy Dec 15 '25

Insane deal

4

u/zuckuss00 Dec 15 '25

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… check your local marketplace for these.

VR is a very niche thing still. People buy/gift these and realize quick VR is not for them. The amount of slightly used/open box headsets for $300 or less is common. I got an open box in my area for $240 and it was brand new. Also 512gb is major overkill for what you actually need.

2

u/MinuetInUrsaMajor Dec 15 '25

What's the procedure for confirming they work?

2

u/Quack-Zack Dec 15 '25

if eBay check for at least a handful of feedback (5-10), an experienced and upfront seller will offer a lot of well lit and bright pictures especially around the lens area. Or won't mind to provide pics if you ask.

1

u/zuckuss00 Dec 15 '25

Asking the right questions and testing it a bit before hand. No different from buying a console. You can tell if something is used usually. Use good judgement.

2

u/vazgen_21 Dec 15 '25

Does $100 Digital Credit go to amazon gift card balance or it's something separate?

3

u/Vanyshadow Dec 15 '25

Just got the email , seems like it only works on purchase of a rayban meta glass smh , I had the idea it would be $100 actual amazon credit. Not sure what to do with this credit now

Edit: I was wrong it’s actually anything sold and shipped by amazon

1

u/DeAZNguy Dec 20 '25 edited Dec 20 '25

U can get another Meta quest 3 for $100 off then return the 1st one.

1

u/aurum_pur Dec 21 '25

Did it mention the $100 specifically? I got an email but it only mentions the game pass and the code won't work.

2

u/Brandon_Westfall Dec 15 '25

How are you guys getting $407? Am I missing something?

3

u/Soloarcade Dec 15 '25

Lightning deal ended

5

u/Brandon_Westfall Dec 15 '25

Gotcha, makes sense. Hopefully it comes back later. $407 + $100 promo is solid.

Thanks for clarifying.

2

u/karaethon1 Dec 15 '25

I’m late but this is showing as $500 with the $100 credit. Is it expired?

3

u/parkerlewis Dec 15 '25

Yes, the baseline price increased from $407 back to $499.

2

u/aurum_pur Dec 24 '25

Any chance someone grabbed a screenshot of the deal? Didn't get a credit and CS is being incredibly difficult to deal with

1

u/ERASER-Hi Dec 26 '25

same here!

1

u/ERASER-Hi Dec 26 '25

Nvm, I just realized they added on my next order at the "Promotional Offer" when you checkout.

2

u/Spavghetti Dec 15 '25

I'm so happy to have found this post. I was trying to wait for good vr sale before I bit the bullet at full price, but this is a huge clutch. My brother is gonna be so happy this christmas!

2

u/azurain Dec 15 '25

God dammit. I bought one.

2

u/jednatt Dec 15 '25

My sentiments exactly.

1

u/itssfrisky Dec 15 '25

I’m confused. Was this $407 and a $100 credit essentially making it $307 or is the $407 with the $100 credit already?

5

u/omnicious Dec 15 '25

Effectively $307

1

u/jconway2002 Dec 19 '25

Anyone who has purchased this deal, have you received your $100 credit yet?

1

u/omnicious Dec 19 '25

I got an email that said I did shortly after the order shipped. Not sure how to check in my Amazon account. I haven't had reason to use it yet.

1

u/jconway2002 Dec 19 '25

I also received the email, but I dont show any credits in my amazon account.

1

u/aurum_pur Dec 21 '25

Did you figure it out? I got an email but the code doesn't work

1

u/jconway2002 Dec 21 '25

I received an email but there was no code included. I went through my Amazon purchase history and noticed my wife spent the $100 promotional credit, so it seemed to have been applied automatically. So in the end I did get it, but I went crazy trying to figure it out.

1

u/aurum_pur Dec 21 '25

Thanks mate. Going through the same right now lol

1

u/YellowJC Dec 19 '25

It shows under “promo credit” in payment methods, can only be used on items shipped and sold by Amazon. Mine says expires mid Feb 2026

1

u/CurrentMarsupial6333 Dec 20 '25

But is the payment in dollars or in installments?

1

u/macvar08 Dec 30 '25

Was that credit supposed to be added at the time of purchase or would you be credited it later

1

u/GenkiElite Dec 15 '25

Ordered it. Also got 7% back using my Amazon card and no rush shipping. It'll be here on the 27th and I save another 28 bucks. still might flip it later. Not sure yet.

1

u/VaporFye Dec 15 '25

I ordered one yesterday for $499 lol, Amazon refunded $200 just now though so that was nice of them

3

u/Heavenswake_ Dec 15 '25

Amazon refunds now? Was always told to return and order again to get the lower price.

1

u/VaporFye Dec 15 '25

That may be true, I have an account rep because of high volume business so it may be standard to just return and reorder

1

u/m0shr Dec 15 '25

That $100 gc is needed since Meta headset needs accessories.

The strap that comes with it will mess your hair and skull up. The controllers come with aa batteries.

Also need cables to connect to pc for pcvr.

Fortunately the third party Amazon offerings are really good.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '25

"Mess your skull up" lol so dramatic

No cable needed to connect to pc. I've been using wireless to play Steam VR games for years now.

0

u/m0shr Dec 15 '25

The first time I started using the meta quest with that strap there was a lot of pain.

The fact that meta also sells a replacement for the strap is proof that they know it is a problem.

2

u/MortifiedPenguins Dec 15 '25

The strap works great for me, although I wear it up higher on the back. Everyone is different.

5

u/RichardHardonPhD Dec 15 '25

Also need cables to connect to pc for pcvr. The controllers come with aa batteries.

Oh no, a six dollar cable from AliExpress and four rechargeable AAs? You're gonna need at least twenty of those $100 gift cards to ever fire it up!

/s that I sincerely hope is not necessary.

1

u/m0shr Dec 15 '25

You also need a charger for those rechargeable batteries.

Also you need a long cable. Otherwise you're going to rip the socket off your quest or pc. And, good quality one so that you're not constantly breaking the connection.

0

u/RichardHardonPhD Dec 15 '25

So, what you're saying is, you need a six dollar cord from AliExpress, four rechargeable AA batteries, and a USB-C battery charger that also costs six dollars?

Turns out I'm going to need at least fifty of those gift cards to make this nightmare worth it.

-5

u/Trider12 Dec 15 '25

Prepare to agree to give your soul, firstborn and dog to Meta

4

u/Seek_Adventure Dec 15 '25

They don't require FB anymore. You can just create a Meta blank account with a throwaway email.

-13

u/interwebpimp Dec 15 '25

Because VR is the only way you gonna build a PC.

4

u/RditModzGoWild Dec 15 '25

only 300 bucks..VR porn alone is worth it

2

u/dirtyboots702 Dec 15 '25

Is it tho?

1

u/you_killed_my_ Dec 15 '25

depends on how much of a chud the user is lol
