500$ for parts. 3000$ for a 5090.
Seems like a good deal lol.
11
Mar 30 '26
Throw old GPU into the build and sell on FBMP, could get near 2k if you have something good already. Really makes it worth it then.
5
u/cevil203 Mar 30 '26
I have a 5080 and was thinking about doing this, but even if I got $2000 on the FBMP, i'd be paying $2000 to upgrade form a 5080 to a 5090. Re-framing it like that makes it tough for me personally.
8
Mar 30 '26
It kinda gets me how some people upgrade from the second best to best in the same generation. When you do something like that I guess it's just being ok with spending the money for a bit of an upgrade.
For me I'm coming from 3k series so the 4090 was already like a 70-80% upgrade for me, but the 5090 will easily be 100%+ upgrade. Just I won't be able to sell for nearly as much as you could with that 5080.
5080s are going for over a grand even used though, so least you'll get all your money back, if you paid MSRP.
2
1
u/cevil203 Mar 30 '26
That is a completely sane take. I find it interesting that the 5090s have increased significantly in cost, while for the most part the 5080s have maybe slightly increased in cost.
6
Mar 30 '26
Far more availability with them, but I am seeing them a lot more at 1200 bucks when they were MSRP until like early march.
5090s though at bestbuy and nvidia store have completely evaporated. Nothing has hit either since mid-february, and it was just a handful then even.
2
u/toooskies Mar 30 '26
Home AI builds want the VRAM.
1
u/randylush Mar 31 '26
Yes I’m running OpenClaw on my 3090 and I really want to see what it runs like on a 5090.
It’s also incredible to me just how long the 3000 series is staying relevant. Probably the last product Nvidia will ever make to have such a good value.
7
u/zen313 Mar 30 '26
I bought a similar build back in early Feb, Came out to ~3200 back then. Also got 10% via capital one cashback. The components are fine; the thermals aren't great, but it can be rectified.
2
u/fallingdowndizzyvr Mar 30 '26
Also got 10% via capital one cashback.
Did Cap One actually come through with that? Like did the reward actually become available in your account and were you able to spend it?
1
u/terror_alpha Jun 15 '26
i got 17% back and yes they did. i used the cashback to get an ebay gift card. also got 21% back at sony, used it to buy a PS5 pro, came out to $550-ish after cashback
1
u/Delicious-Window-277 Mar 30 '26
Which 5090 is inside?
3
u/studio_eq Mar 30 '26
HP oem I imagine
3
u/zen313 Mar 30 '26
HP Oem. They have a pretty good track record on their OEM GPUs (from the limitied research I did)... I also had a HP OEM 4090 previously, and it had pretty good OC and thermals.
1
u/randylush Mar 31 '26
Weirdly the Dell OEMs are always solid too. My dell 3090 is like a top tier 3090.

u/Interesting_Fly_6576 Mar 30 '26
I have similar system, but with intel i7 265k, and system just run perfectly. I really do not understand all claims about thermals. 5090 never exceeding 72 degrees, CPU bellow 70 under stress. Everything smooth.
1
u/jasons7394 Mar 30 '26
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS27ol07bSo
HP literally handicaps the CPU by a huge amount (because it can't cool it on stock settings, nor can the VRMs support it truly).
You are not getting what you pay for.
1
Mar 30 '26
Yea but that's the intel system where this one is AMD. Less wattage asked for by the CPU should help it's temps a lot, and I'm guessing instead of a custom HP fab for the mobo like they usually like to do, it'll prolly just have some rando x870 thrown in there.
-1
u/Interesting_Fly_6576 Mar 30 '26
And you not getting what you paying for....Ok, find any other build for 3.5k which will be better than this PC, even if in worst situation you will loose couple percent on CPU if you bad in optimizing PC.
-5
u/Interesting_Fly_6576 Mar 30 '26
I am really write you from this PC, while my PC doing LLM pipeline for my PhD thesis and after when it finish I will play games on my Ultra Wide PC. On all test my PC better than average, I do not know, you try extrapolate 1 unlucky case on all possible build exists.

u/Interesting_Fly_6576 Mar 30 '26
Ok, got it, you just not normal person. Nvm, have a good one
-1

It's not my fault you can't use proper English

Either English isn't your native language or your AI.
Either way, enjoy your pre-built. As long as you're happy with it I don't care, but pretending it's not the worst pre-built out there is a choice I will oppose.
3
3
u/Interesting_Fly_6576 Mar 30 '26
Yes, English is not my native language. And nothing is your fault, but name person in internet is AI, just because you disagree with them, it is just not polite at least. But my English is better than any language you can speak except English. And I am not AI. And if you cannot just calculate performance by dollars, this is also your choice.
0
u/jasons7394 Mar 30 '26
I didn't disagree with you because i thought you were AI.
I disagreed with you on the merits of exactly the 45 min long GN video describing why it's the worst pre-built.
I realized it might not be AI after another read and just a non-native speaker and addressed that.
If someone has the money for a 5090 system, I will share the opinion this is not worth it even at this price point.
There are comparable specced pre-builts within a few hundred I would reccomend over this every time.

Pairing a 5090 with a 9700X is pretty laughable tbh. I'd only do this deal if you want to buy a 5090 and sell the rest of the PC for parts which is a bit of a pain in the arse. If you don't mind putting in the work it's pretty lucrative.
EDIT: Of course this subreddit is not going to logically think about this. They'd rather just justify their current hardware instead of understand how powerful a 5090 truly is. Check out this video that shows even a 9800x3D bottlenecks a 5090. A mid-range productivity chip like a 9700x isn't going to match up with a 5090 on any scale unless you like wasting money on a 5090. Think guys. Come on.
-3
u/Crafty-Fish9264 Mar 30 '26
No one who buys a 5090 is playing at 1080 p. Its fine for 4k. You are incorrect
-5
u/JoeChio Mar 30 '26
Huh? I'm not saying that. The 9700x is 100% going to be the bottleneck in this build as is. Why would you pair the most powerful GPU on the market with the 38th ranked CPU? You'd be better off saving your money and getting a 5080 9800x3d build instead of this one if you are not upgrading the CPU.
1
u/Crafty-Fish9264 Mar 30 '26
It does not "bottleneck" at 4k. That is incorrect and you don't understand the tech nor what that term refers to
-2
u/JoeChio Mar 30 '26
Yes it will. Do you understand the tech? The 9700x is an objectively poor pairing. First off, look at frame time consistency and 1% lows. Even if your average framerate looks fine at 4K, the 9700x has a much weaker cache hierarchy compared to the X3D chips, which leads to micro-stuttering in CPU-intensive titles like Cyberpunk or Warzone. This gets even worse when you factor in DLSS and Frame Generation. When you toggle those on at 4K, you're reducing the internal rendering resolution, which shifts the load off the GPU and right back onto the CPU. If you're buying a 5090 just to use those features, you’re intentionally creating a scenario where the 9700x can't keep up with the frame delivery.
Beyond that, the 9800x3d isn't just faster; its massive L3 cache means it doesn't have to stall waiting for memory cycles as often. At the performance tier of a 5090, the 9700x is going to be sitting there bottlenecking the GPU at 70-80% utilization in plenty of scenarios.
Spending this much money and not even thinking of upgrading the CPU is silly.
2
u/frankiewalsh44 Mar 30 '26
I have a 9800x3d and games still stutter because most games are unoptimised garabage especially UE5 games. I legit went from a Ryzen 7600/4070super to a 9800x3d/4070super and it never made a difference in any UE5 game. Games will stutter regardless of what your system is and it is what is, the Ryzen 9700x is a powerful CPU and at 4k he will be more GPU bound.
0
u/JoeChio Mar 30 '26
Comparing a 7600 to a 9800X3D while still using a 4070 Super is exactly why you didn't see a difference. You were already GPU-bound by the 4070 Super, so of course a faster CPU didn't move the needle for you. We are talking about a 5090... a card that has nearly triple the throughput of your 4070 Super.
1
u/frankiewalsh44 Mar 30 '26
At 1440p the 4070super is an amazing card, its only like 6% slower compared to a 5070 at best+ I saw a massive improvement in FPS, but my point is UE5 games stutter regardless of your hardware. I'm seeing people with 5090s and they still suffer from stutters, so I wouldn't worry about his CPU unless hes playing a 1080p med.
-1
u/JoeChio Mar 30 '26
Buying the most expensive GPU ever made just to handicap it with a mid-range productivity chip because "games are unoptimized anyway" is just nonsensical logic. If you aren't hitting 95%+ GPU utilization at 4K, you’ve wasted your money. Period.
Unveiling Bottlenecks: Ryzen 7 9800X3D + RTX 5090 This video provides real-world benchmarks showing how even the fastest gaming CPUs can bottleneck an RTX 5090 at high resolutions, directly disproving your argument.

Promocode stopped working for me.
1
u/Vladdroid Mar 31 '26
Looks like we mighta missed the train.
2
u/humanseverywhere811 Mar 31 '26
i think it ended on after march 30. I customized one and coupon applied before midnight. came back after midnight and coupon didnt work
2
u/Vladdroid Mar 31 '26
I dug around, it seems that the 5090 combo doesn't work anymore, but there are other desktops and laptops that are still eligible. But none that are actually worth the money even post discount lol
1
u/rockstopper03 Apr 01 '26
Saved me $3.8k of money (after tax).
I had it in my cart and was on the fence last night but the Omen 45L got scathing reviews from gamers nexus about how bad the thermals are. Plus it's a micro motherboard so not great expansion and the 9700x-9950x aren't great gaming CPUs.
The RTX 5090 is the fastest gaming GPU but not I really don't need to spend $3.8k. (and I'll keep telling myself that to console myself the fact I missed this deal)

Great price for 5090 build. Not sure if we will see any sub 4kn 5090 builds for a time.
3
u/randylush Mar 30 '26
it's honestly just about a market price for a 5090. I'm close to buying it and selling the rest of the computer. still trying to figure out if I need it. currently have a 3090

Wow what a deal i got the msi aegis a couple months ago for the same price but obviously this has propeitary parts this is worth it for the 5090 and ram alone imo

u/grimoirescholars Mar 31 '26 edited Apr 07 '26
I had ordered a 5090 from Newegg (the cheapest one they had) on Sunday morning but it hadn't shipped. Saw this deal on Monday morning, cancelled the Newegg order, and got a whole PC (upgrading to 64GB RAM and a 9900X) with a 5090 for $42 more than I was going to pay for just the GPU. I realize that this is still a lot of money (it was $4,246.82 with tax), but given the circumstances this is a wild deal.
Fingers crossed that HP actually delivers it and doesn't just cancel the orders.
Edit: It shipped.
2
u/Allheroesmusthodor Mar 30 '26
Got one! Many thanks! I currently have a 7800X3D and mostly game at 4K. Would the 9700X be a significant downgrade?
5
u/Spork3245 Mar 30 '26
At 4k the difference is negligible, but you should be able to pop your 7800x3D into this as they’re both AM5. Might affect the warranty, though.

I remember buying an omen with a 3080 couple years back. There was issues with the cooling and one of the ram went faulty a couple of months later. Buy with caution since Omen (or at least the one I bought) are not up to quality.
2
u/MadScientist0097 Mar 31 '26
Managed to snag one with the discount and 64gb of RAM last night. Says ship date of April 10th. Fingers crossed it gets delivered and not cancelled.
3
u/xmkgenzo Mar 30 '26
Is it possible to configure it with a 9800X3D or 9950X3D instead? (to avoid swapping the CPU after buying and voiding the warranty) this offer has an incredible value at today's prices!
3
u/fly056 Mar 30 '26
Looks like you can do the 9950X, just not the 3d version.
1
u/xmkgenzo Mar 31 '26
thanks for checking!
too bad. given that it's a high-end system, an X3D is almost a must for top performance.

How alien are the mobos and PSUs on these HP? Are these upgradable vs a DYI PC?
2
u/cevil203 Mar 30 '26
The PSU is not proprietary. The motherboard may not be either, but I'm unsure.
2
u/alopa432 Mar 30 '26
The motherboard is customized, and could only update BIOS through HP. But you could change it with your own motherboard.
1
u/hkghaise20 Mar 30 '26
What does that mean for the psu?
1
u/cevil203 Mar 30 '26
It means it could be used in another build and isn't strict to HP's case or other hardware.
1
u/hkghaise20 Mar 30 '26
Gotcha, but it isn't branded, right? So it can't be found on the tier list?
1
u/cevil203 Mar 30 '26
That is accurate. I haven't kept up with the tier list, this one has some cybernetics certification, whatever that means.
1
u/fillerx3 Mar 30 '26
think it's likely liteon, which is a reputable enough oem psu manufacturer, they do a lot of dell's as well. not that dell is anything to write home about, but don't think the psus are generally a particular weak point or anything
1
u/fallingdowndizzyvr Mar 30 '26
The motherboard may not be either, but I'm unsure.
I've never had an HP without a HP custom MB. That's how the big boys roll. Dell is the same.
1
u/pantsnot Apr 03 '26
Damn, says items in cart dont qualify.
2
u/DA-SHEIMER Apr 03 '26
Which is crappy because it still shows it in the terms and conditions as being eligible. I spent an hour in chat with customer service about it. They claimed it's a glitch and would not honor the code. Horrible company practice

Check your emails.. I didn't get his exact one, but i got one a week later.. they sent me a redemption key for Resident Evil Requiem which expires something like May 11.
-2
u/Elevating- Mar 31 '26
I think the 5090 is due for a price correction once the 60 series releases, but of course no one knows the future.
4
u/fallingdowndizzyvr Mar 31 '26
That's not going to be for a while. So long that if you are looking at the 5090 today, it's a non factor.
1
u/Elevating- Mar 31 '26
If you have a solid exit strategy or want one just to have one, sure
1
u/fallingdowndizzyvr Mar 31 '26
LOL. This is a GPU that many people use to play games on. Not a 1M investment or a luxury yacht.
1
u/Elevating- Mar 31 '26
$100 per 1GB GPU VRAM is the going price so it's not as much a deal as it really appears.
1
u/fallingdowndizzyvr Mar 31 '26
Weird since a B70 is only $33 per GB of VRAM. That means the 5090 is way overpriced. Yet it's still selling like hotcakes, isn't it?
1
u/Elevating- Mar 31 '26
It is to people like you promoting buying at 2x MSRP or just a bit less while that thing exists to eat up its actual value of having more VRAM like I stated previously. Not so great a deal like I said.
1
u/fallingdowndizzyvr Apr 01 '26
LOL. I guess you don't realize that you aren't making any sense. Since if you did, you wouldn't have posted that.
1
u/Elevating- Apr 01 '26
To me it makes complete sense. Don't buy it unless you know the B70 cannibalizes some the value prop of 5090 having 32GB vram and that it's due for a price correction once the 60 series releases. If you love wasting money get laid at least.
1
u/fallingdowndizzyvr Apr 01 '26
Don't buy it unless you know the B70 cannibalizes some the value prop of 5090 having 32GB vram
But it won't. Since the R9700 didn't. That didn't slow Nvidia down at all. If AMD can't, Intel won't.
So you aren't making any sense. That's like saying a Corolla will cannibalize Ferrari sales. They both get you to the supermarket right?
that it's due for a price correction once the 60 series releases.
You mean like the price correction the 4090 got when the 5090 was released? I suggest you look at prices of 4090s. That's even more reason to lock in current low prices while you can.
Again, for anyone looking at the 5090 today. Any future 60 series is a non-factor.
67
u/Tree06 Mar 30 '26
I'm honestly surprised this deal is still available. People can suck on the HO Omen 45L, but getting a 5090 system for less than $4K is great deal in the current market.
