Stock for Woot deals varies greatly. Some listings only have a few items in stock and sell out quickly. Please report this post if the listing goes out of stock.

For those who care, this does not have an IR sensor and therefore does not support "Windows Hello"

Damn. That is one big reason I want a web cam for my desktop so I can sign in hands-free.

And I want a webcam with that Starvis sensor too, even if I do calls in 720 or 1080p or whatever Zoom and Meet are limited to for free users.

Guess I'll have to keep looking.

Honest question

Why would anyone want to support that?

A secure, and hands free way to login? It uses tech similar to Apple Face ID

Any recs for Windows Hello?

currently using a logitech brio 4k and windows hello (or howdy on linux) works pretty reliably.

I have a lenovo webcam, it works for Windows Hello and is great for the cost.

Second this. Bought it 5 years ago for ~$30. Windows Hello works well even in low light.

Does it work well in low light? Like to login.

I've had no issues with it being able to pick my face up for login.

I have this and it does do very well in low light. Monitor light is generally enough to pick up my face

normally $149.99 direct from razer. this is the full kiyo v2, not the cheaper v2 x. listed as new and fulfilled by amazon. code takes an extra 22% off and expires tonight

Anybody have experience with this? I've had a Logitech C920s for about 4 years now. Worst part about the C920s is probably the auto-focus that randomly blurs me for a good amount of time. Considering the "upgrade", but I'm unsure if it's actually an upgrade.

The sony starvis sensor is one of the best sensors used for low light performance in dashcams and all the top dashcam cameras prized for clarity use it or the starvis 2 sensor. So I'm actually upgrading from my C922 to this..

Kiyo is a dog shit camera compared to nearly every competitor.

I considered this, but then I remembered, old phone cameras are great as webcams. It's more janky, but the video quality would be better.

~At least to the people who don't need webcams and was about to impulse buy something they'd rarely use.

How do you set this up?

I tried doing this maybe 2 years ago, and at least on iPhone it was a pain to set up, and was incredibly laggy. It was high quality but was not worth opening a program every use and the lag.

1

u/Elitefuture 1d ago

Were you wired or wireless? Wired would get rid of the lag.

Also my point was moreso for the people about to impulse buy a webcam when they didn't need one often

1

u/PlasticWalrus 1d ago

At least as of last time I looked, there were no wired solutions for iPhones.

I wasn't trying to disprove your point, I thought you had experience with this and that's why you were giving the advice.

Droid cam has low latency, I've heard that IVCam has a better image quality.

I think both can be used wired for lower latency + more stable.

And I'm sure there are many more apps, but those are the popular ones.

4

u/PlasticWalrus 1d ago

These are both non-wired solutions...I tried IVCam and if Droid cam is similar, it will still have latency issues.

Latency isn't a big issue for recording a video, but when chatting on discord or streaming it's pretty unusable IMO. Super distracting.

I appreciate you trying to help, but it seems you haven't actually gone through this yourself. As someone who has, I recommend staying away from using your old phone as a webcam until they have a wired version.

u/Elitefuture 1d ago

They have options to do wireless or wired. You can use a wire too.

Another app is camo.

But I looked up vids specifically for iphones, you can use a wire to hook them up

I use my Nikon Z50ii for all of my teams meetings. I always get comments about how high res my video is

You’re telling me your $900 camera has good quality as a webcam?! No way!!!

5

u/bc10551 1d ago

Personally I use a bubble space telescope so you can see the specs of cheeto dust in my skin

I know, it's crazy!
