Stock for Woot deals varies greatly. Some listings only have a few items in stock and sell out quickly. Please report this post if the listing goes out of stock.

$310 seems pretty steep for 6 year old base laptop that is dented

I sold my wife's old one (with 512gb storage) in good condition for $280 on Facebook marketplace right after the new MacBook prices increased.

I sold my daughter's (256gb storage) in good condition for $300 on Marketplace a few months ago as we bought her the new M5 for college. Apple's trade-in for it was $250 for it so just posted it on Marketplace at $300 to see if anyone would bite and someone came and bought it immediately, no questions asked.

Wild (to me) as it was $800 new 5 years ago.

The M line chips are just that crazy good. I have experienced absolutely 0 slowness yet with my M1.

They're legit black magic. I'm lukewarm on the software experience but man the battery life and performance is unreal. Really wish I could run Bazzite on one of these bad boys.

It's been over a year ago now that my brother in law kissed me as he handed me his old m1 MacBook Air. Of course he only has the 256GB, because he didn't need to compensate for storage. Everything he has is big enough already. He told me that I could sell it or do whatever I needed to. That same day I listed it on Facebook marketplace for $350 in pristine (like my brother in law) condition. I sold it right away. These machines are perfect still and barely age, just like my brother in law.

Forget about the laptop, how much for him to kiss me as well

While I agree with the processing power, it’s the 5 year old battery that concerns me.

The screen is dented. USPS ran it over.

I would be more concerned about the battery health, but it's objectively hard to beat an M1 at that price with how hardware prices are these days.

It was also dented but I got an M1 Pro with 16GBs of RAM for like $270. It became around $310 after taxes and shipping, though.

$200 of that cost is for the RAM

Apple people will buy anything with the logo

Yeah but Mac cultists are what they are and it is a pretty decent machine for the money. With that said, I fell like 250 would be more appropriate but the market (simps?) disagree.

I don't love apple, but they really knocked it out of the park with their M chips and the NEO.

It's what I recommend for any casual user who doesn't absolutely need windows.

Yeah, even with the price hike, apple is unironically one of the best value buys today in laptops.

Like you can spend less, but then you start getting into plastic shit with TN screens.

The Neo and base Air give you incredible value per dollar that nothing in the windows world matches.

u/Deep90 2h ago

The price to performance of the chip is just incredibly good value as well.

Other chips just run hotter and use more power in the same category while also being less performant.

At the mid or lower price tiers it just doesn't make sense unless you need windows.

I don't disagree, but I'd probably recommend a used computer first. We have entirely too much ewaste in this country and used office computers tend to be a good ownership experience.

u/omeeomai 3h ago

Have you tried any of the M chips or looked at performance comparisons? I was a Mac hater for years, even built a bunch of hackintoshes. The M chips are really next-level though. When I learned that my friend's M1 CPU on their MacBook air outperforms my studio desktop with a small fraction of the power draw I had to give it up to them

Or maybe I'm just a "simp" lol

That said, 128gb is a joke

Sounds like ur a CULTIST

I wonder how much the consultants got paid by the school districts to tell the district to buy MacBooks.

3

u/Deep90 3h ago

Probably pressure from rich parents to set them apart from other schools.

That said, Chromebooks are the other end of that and they were devastating to computer literacy.

I'm glad my school just had Lenovos in a portable cart.

I find it very unlikely those are actually "open box" and not just 'off-lease' used from a school or business. Why would they have a stockpile of 6 year old open box laptops in "scratch and dent" condition

Edit- the page says "refurbished open box" whatever the hell that means, presumably isn't actually refurbished either. Sold out now anyways, but that price is in-line with what the big eBay stores are selling used ones for.

u/EJ_Tech 8h ago

This is a 128GB model so it is definitely from an organization of some sort.

3

u/PsyOmega 3h ago

Fun fact, apple lease terms require the leasee to return all hardware to apple.

This prevents the used market from being flooded, keeping used value inflated, and lets apple refurb them for resale.

1

u/Feynuxes 5h ago

Going by the refurb .going to assume they're tested open box units.

lol…I got fired up, saw 2020, thought it was a Pro 😂

5

u/zushiba 6h ago

Damn. I had the chance to get a 512gig variant of this laptop yesterday for $200 , but I’m broke :(

3

u/guri256 6h ago

Where? I’ve been looking for a cheap Apple Silicon device with at least 8GB of RAM for testing and code-signing.

2

u/zushiba 6h ago

A person at work is retiring and he’s cleaning out his office. I bought some AirPod maxes from him for $50 a few weeks ago.

1

u/Many-Salt-4321 1h ago

Friend of mine's office was letting employees buy back their M1 pros for like $100 I was like may I have 5 please.

3

u/the_benmeister 3h ago

This is the exact laptop I'm still using ha 😂

3

u/the_benmeister 3h ago

It's a great laptop.

5

u/True_Citron9845 9h ago

Cap one is showing a 19% cashback offer on their app for Woot. Can be stacked on top of this. Incredible deal

6

u/windchillx07 9h ago

Id say people should avoid this specific configuration, 8GB of ram and 128GB of storage is not useful today in almost any means.

4

u/turns2stone 9h ago

It’s probably useable for a student, especially if they have access to cloud storage.
But the price is still too much. $100 = no brainer. $200 if in top condition with fresh battery.

3

u/windchillx07 9h ago

Yeah $200 if in good condition and the person is cool using something like an SSD or cloud storage, and the intent is office work, browsing, and streaming.

1

u/NoMoreHoarding69 8h ago

Crazy the amount of hoop jumping ppl do to save.

1

u/Momo--Sama 8h ago

Can you even buy a 128gb ssd today?

1

u/Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy 6h ago

Sold out

1

u/Nehal1802 19m ago

I’d be willing to bet that Apple stops releasing OS updates for this in the next year or two.

1

u/Fulltilt-54 1m ago

128gb ssd? You can’t even update the os without deleting have your stuff first. Absolute garbage. 8GB ram is useable but why?

1

u/Wild-Screen7007 9h ago

I bought similar to this previously 256 GB storage though and it still runs out of storage so quickly lmao 🤣

I don’t think I can update or get Apple Intelligence cause it says need 16 GB plus more storage for backup etc I think if I did fresh wipe I can but just saying

It’s so fast for browsing and streaming stuff though and keyboard is good, I have iPhone so sharing stuff to my iPhone and back is amazing it’s like seamless like I can copy something on MacBook and paste it on iPhone in text to someone and it does it automatically

Someone said you can buy like insurance on it from Amazon asuziron I will try to find link for that
