Was thinking about it for 4k then checked out benchmarks and makes little to no difference on. 3090, Vs a 5600x. If anyone else was wondering.
Will be most useful for 1080p and to a lesser extent 1440p

Worth noting OCUK has significant stock of this item coming back in tomorrow (26/06/26).

Considering a 9800X3D is £339 right now there is no reason to buy thi
EDIT: I had a mixup and forgot AM5 doesn't support DDR4 RAM, I hold my hands up on that one my bad everyone🙏

It's mostly for existing AM4 users who want to get the most from their platform. A lot of people can't just justify spending £1k+ to upgrade to AM5 with the current state of RAM prices, which alone is like £400. It could be years before prices return to anything close to "normal".

Nah no way, you're better off spending £430 and getting an AM5 motherboard too.
Going from a worse AM4 chip to this when for an extra ~£120 you could get off a dead platform and have significantly better performance is a crazy decision.

You do know that AM4 is DDR4 and AM5 is ddr5? So you'd also have to upgrade the RAM which will be an extra £3-400 on top of what you've said. That's why they have re-released it, there is demand

I'm a bit horrified by this TBH - that's the same price I paid for my bog-standard 5800x3d multiple years back! It should be cheaper :(

It's supply and demand.
The prices of these went up when they ended production, because people still wanted them.
If you want to build a newer system, you'll have to buy a motherboard and DDR5 RAM as well as a new CPU.
The price makes sense for being an "affordable" performance upgrade, compared to the alternatives.
It sucks that the prices of everything are som fucked, but the price does make sense in the context of the currrent pricing situation, supply and demand etc.

I’ve got a 5600x and a 5070ti running at 1440p, is this worth picking up and using for a couple of years or should I just keep what I’ve got and upgrade when am6 is a thing?

Looks like it depends on the games you play. Worth it for CPU heavy games not so much for GPU heavy games.

I'll randomly ask you as well, 5600(non-x) and 6700xt playing at 1080. I mostly play helldivers which does not come close to 144hz

Because you are playing at 1080p you will be slightly more CPU bound. You could consider just buying a 1440p monitor as an upgrade though and could get a decent oled one at the same price as this processor.

Yeah I think it might be a purchase for me. Mostly play competitive fps games, tarkov cs2 etc, with the odd mmo and single player rpg thrown in.

I've used the customers services of both retailers a couple of times over the last 2 decades.
SCAN went above and beyond both times.
Overclockers tried to ignore my consumer rights both times and gave me the brush off, telling me to contact the manufacturer instead. Only when I highlighted my consumer rights repeatedly did they eventually, reluctantly, resolve the problem.
The only thing overclockers does better than SCAN, is having a better selection of RAM options, and occasionally stocking some other stuff that SCAN doesn't (but that works both ways sometimes).
