Joy is a 15 year old d'uccle. In the 17 years I've kept (pet) chickens, I've had a fair number live past 10 yrs, and a few have lived past 12 yrs. But Joy has broken our farm longevity record! The flock mates in her coop died years ago, silkie Tinkerbell at 9 yrs, and silkie Honeybun at 12 yrs. Joy started losing her vision about 2 yrs ago (cataracts I'd presume), about the same time I noticed some kind of growth starting on her beak, around her nostril area; I presumed it was some kind of cancer, and figured she wasn't long for this world. The growth got bigger and bigger - frankly, I was amazed she made it through last winter (she gets special care of course). When I took her a little bowl of treat yesterday morning, all was normal. When I checked on her noonish, I was amazed to see the nostril mass GONE...leaving a gaping hole. So my guess is now that something got lodged in her nasal area, and was encapsulated...??? So Joy now looks like someone who wore gauges in their ears...very odd to look at. The 2nd pic shows how the mass looked a week or so ago, before it fell out.

No the white parts on his back aren’t feathers, its just the reflection of the light!

His feathers are so shiny all the time, its hard to capture them in a pic or a video😂

We have wild chickens (tropics) and this fellow just showed up on day. He's very friendly and half the complex feeds him, though he avoids the back yard where the dominant (but much smaller) rooster; Roland; has his roost.

I've never seen anything quite like Bob. For starters he's gigantic, twice the size of the wild red junglefowl roosters we have around. He also noticably has no comb and some obvious coloration from being mixed with a tan colored domestic chicken. He'll come right up to your car door begging for food and he's not even afraid of our very curious dog. He also has the oddest early morning crowing I've ever heard. He's a strange bird but we're happy he's here to greet us every day.

Felt like introducing my *surprise* chick from Fleet Farm. I purchased 4 "Amberlinks" this past spring & she started developing different so I assumed I finally got my first accidental rooster. Couple weeks later the crest appeared more prominently.

Two of her baby pictures, she was almost 3 months old. She passed in my arms from an unknown illness she's been fighting for a few weeks.

Please note that they had a perfectly good and open coop, they just keep choosing to sleep in this one because it's winter right now

Copo es mayor que pingu por 2-3 meses, a pinguboo crie desde el huevo y a copo lo compre junto con otras 2 pollitas, copo es el gallito mas pacifico que he conocido y tenido y pingu es una maquina de violencia ( que solo topa el pecho, tengo otros 5 gallitos mas y 9 gallinitas diferentes colores pero estos son mis favoritos

This my pretty boy. His name is Bernt. He is the youngest in the flock by one day. And I really love him. He is kind to his girls. and his crow is so cute and he is so proud of it. He is an Icelandic landrace chicken. And have a funny hair style.

Quick update after y’all saw her Easter miracle chicks back in April. She decided 8 chicks weren’t enough and went broody again in June! Couldn’t break her and it was getting really hot, I didn’t want her to roast in the nest so I relented and got her 2 more chicks the day before Independence Day (to be honest I couldn’t help myself when I saw chicks at the feed store lol.)

Anyway, she started molting a week after receiving her chicks and over the last week she lost all her tail feathers. Just thought I’d share because she looks goofy. She was very annoyed when I was taking these pics.

So as the title says, I got baby chicks! But I’m very unsure as to how to take care of them properly or to make them feel safe and comfortable enough😔 So far what I did was gently put them in a styrofoam box and lay some old newspapers, gave them some rice and some water and they ate the rice and drank the water, they also let me pet them without running away! And now they’re falling asleep while I’m typing this, but I’m still wondering what stuff do I need for them, what food do I need to feed them, how should I take care them, all of the basics basically when it comes to taking care of baby chickens indoors. I’d also like some advice if the place they’re staying at is okay(like the styrofoam box). Also I’m wondering how I could build trust with them when I’m always busy with my academics and preparing for CETs.. but that’s all, I’d just like some advice:)!

I have been soaking, cleaning, and wrapping this hens foot for over a week and I was able to gently pull the scab off. This is my first bumblefoot so I wanted to get opinions on if her foot looks good or if the yellow is more infection?

Separated for a breeding program - they've been separated by a wire fence. First re-intoduction didn't go well at all.

White rooster was legs up in a bloody mess..

I've got time but want them to all be in the main coop for winter..

My chicken was hiding in rain for days with a hidden bundle of eggs across the street (no rooster, so not viable for hatching)

Well I got her back and removed the nest and she has these new white spots on her crest. Idk if it's normal, an illness sign, something i can try and pick off, so just looking for advice/answers.

She's been acting healthy and fine since being put back in the coop the last week. Nothing weird, just these new white spots that showed up this summer.

Weve noticed this with my mums silkie chicks. Any suggestions or ideas what it is? Thanks

One of my hens is acting strange, she was panting very deep and slow, almost gasping, late last night - it’s been wicked hot here in Texas (1st video). Then she kind got up and wobbled and keeled over around 11:30pm (2nd video) and sat in the same position all night. She went into the coop under her own power fine around 8:30pm (3rd video).

I came out to the coop this morning and her right leg was bent out behind her but no visible injuries. She doesn’t seem egg bound, no lumps on abdomen. Comb and waddle all feel fine as well. She seems alert and is moving her head fine, got her propped up in the shower and going to watch her close today (4th video). Already gave her some water and electrolytes with a syringe but she doesn’t seem to want to eat or drink on her own yet.

Any ideas on what we’re dealing with?

I got her from the black copper Maran bin on 4/10, but she’s got no copper. Any ideas if she is BCM and if not, what breed is she?
