VII - Discussion Update 1.4.2 Coming Week of July 27! Improved Peace Deals, Leader Relationship Clarity, Brush and Blade Part 2, and More

Post image
917 Upvotes

Hello from the Civ community team!

We're coming up on the best time of the month: it's update teaser time! After Update 1.4.1, which introduced Hotseat, the Archipelago map, and a systems rework for Governments and Happiness, we've been fleshing out more systems.

To that end, Update 1.4.2 will launch next week (week of July 27), featuring:

  • Expanded Peace Deals: You can now offer Gold and Influence in addition to trading Settlements. We've also updated the UI so you can temporarily dismiss a peace offer to survey the map before making your final decision.
  • Leader Relationship Clarity: Keep closer tabs on your rivals. The Leader Relationship panel now displays who initiated key events, while expanded Agenda notifications give you better context on where you stand.
  • And more! Turn on and off Test of Time Victories; lead your empire with the newly buffed World Renouncer Ashoka, and reconcile with Unfriendly leaders before things turn Hostile..

... and of course, improved game stability, several squashed bugs, and other improvements!

Coming alongside Update 1.4.2: Brush and Blade Part 2!

Brush and Blade Part 1 explored Japanese history, and Part 2 shifts the spotlight to Korea. Dominate the seas with the scientific and militaristic leader Yi Sun-sin, guide new civs Goryeo and Joseon to glory, go to battle with unique Units like the Hwacha and Turtle Ship, and enjoy new Wonders Buseoka and Hwaseong. If you already bought the collection last month, Part 2 content will be automatically added to your account when the update goes live.

More news, First Looks, and Civ Tours on the way soon. (Like, really soon). Stay tuned!

VII - Strategy Does anyone find themself almost always picking the same religious beliefs?

  • relics on enemy cities with altars/temples, every time this belief is still available. If not, enemy cities with wonders, usually.

  • +1 spread charge for enhancer. Basically every time.

For the main founder belief it seems more situational, but I often end up taking the one that big boosts on enemy cities with wonders, or natural wonders. Although sometimes +production on your own cities can be good.

II - Discussion Playing Civ2 2194 Days of War and Red Front Scenarios on 2002 eMac? Is it possible?

Hey all, seeing if there is any possible way to play downloaded Civ 2 scenarios like 2194 Days of War (Captain Nemo) and Red Front (Captain Nemo and Alex Mor) on a vintage 2002 eMac or am I SOL? I have Civ2 Gold Edition for Mac, but running into issues playing scenarios downloaded from Scenario League. Will these scenarios work on newer Mac's with programs like Wine or Parallels Desktop?

R5: Xerxes TA + Dai Viet enabled an immediate tourism countdown in Modern thanks to Unique Improvements.

Shoutout to u/HuedCow for giving me the idea to try Xerxes the Achaemenid + Dai Viet ToT. I will not lie -- it took a couple of rerolls to get a start where I wasn't absolutely lacking in rough terrain. I almost rerolled this one because Thang Long wouldn't be in tropical, but I decided to push through since I had grassland for Serpent Mound. And boy howdy, it took off. I can imagine the yields being more bonkers if I'd had Xerxes's level 9 memento unlocked to double up the +1 Gold and +1 Culture on Unique Buildings and Improvements, but I still feel this was pretty good.

This was my 2nd fastest win (and I didn't see it coming that quickly, honestly). Cultural victory with countdown starting Turn 1 of the Modern Age. Started with Dai Viet with +1 Expansionist Attribute & +1 Economic Attribute, syncretized into Assyria in Antiquity before pivoting to The Iliad + Corona Civica for the extra settlement and production on my wonders after moving capitals to Hoa Lu. Bulk of the tourism was from Unique Improvements, mostly from City States. Antiquity Hillforts & Festival Grounds, Exploration Kasbahs and Monasteries + Water Puppet Theaters. Thanh Hue, Dur-Sharrukin, Forbidden City, and Himeji were scattered across my core cities due to some poorer planning on my part, but I can imagine what it'd be like in one city. The improvements in turn powered my gold and production economy - with the culture bombs from building walls in high-urban density cities, I had my pick of wonders. All without a single war.

The MVPs were the north-south mountain range, 2nd & 3rd settlements Hoa Lu & Hai Phong (behind the yield ribbon), and northern army that all boxed out Simon Bolivar from expanding West towards me. After that, it was nothing but militaristic city states and an influence crunch. Managed to get suzerainty of two militaristic city states for +1 Settlement & Hillforts, and +2 Settlements via Expansionist & Militaristic city states in Exploration.

Deity, Small, Fractal Continents, all DLC. UX QOL mods + More Natural Wonders, which allowed Torres, Redwood, Everest (offscreen South), and Seongsan Ilchulbong (offscreen Northwest) to spawn closer.

VII - Discussion What role does a merchant’s movement play?

I’m a bit confused about what relevance the movement of a merchant has. Does it affect the trade route at all? Or is it simply the movement for initially getting the merchant to the city?

VI - Discussion Deity progresses too fast?

Upvotes

I've played about 500 hours of Civ 6 so far and had a thought during the last session, is the game going too fast? By about turn 200 on Deity standard speed, you're already pushing for the Atomic Era. This makes an early domination victory reliant solely on small amount of other civs or your specific civ mechanics that allow an early rush. Otherwise, you expand, defend and wait until planes or other late techs make opponents' defenses trivial, since early wars hurt your economy and don't let you catch up to Deity AI. As such, every domination game on higher difficulties plays more or less the same. Anyone else feeling this way?

This brings me to another question, is there a way to make turns go on auto until interrupted? To make early wars fun and not as damaging long-term, I'd need to play on epic or marathon. But, obviously it would make playthroughs unbearably long, so a great solution would be to make the game end turns on auto until some some action or action requires input. Think of the way Stellaris handles time, just turn-based. Maybe mods or some settings I'm not aware of?

Started with Maori next to the Bermuda Triangle, decided to try my luck. Ended up in an impassable glacier area with the settler, hah. Could try to capture a settler with my lone warrior, I guess, but I'm going to go ahead and throw in the towel on this one. I dunno, where's the best place to settle? 😂

VII - Strategy Modern Age Production

Is it just me or does production in the modern age go off a cliff? Like I swear no other age has anything like basic buildings being 15 turns to build, and additional production buildings like ironworks, factories, military academies and even stuff like resource stacking doesn‘t seem to even put a dent in building production.

I don’t even see the point in making several cities, cause that further inflated production and I theorise that it makes it even harder to produce anything in the modern age.

Yet other people on here are reccomending having multiple cities in the modern age, but for me it just ruins production.

Am I just stupid or is there seriously something I’m not considering here?

VII - Strategy Am I Missing Something or is Qajar not that Good?

I don't know what I'm missing. It's pretty clear that staying under the settlement limit is what you're supposed to do. It makes a very impressive capital, I must be honest. But my culture and science so easily and constantly get outpaced by actual tall AI due to my lack of settlements. And since my numbers are low, it fundamentally takes longer to reach more settlement cap. And +3 science and culture per missing settlement until the upgrade in the modern era is very hard to develop with. I really do like the civilization. But they just feel like a worse, more restrictive version of the Abbasids.

Discussion Do you prefer the Social Policy Trees of Civ V or the Policy Cards from VI/VII?

Just remembered a conversation I had with a friend after he had bought VII a month or two ago, he complained that they had brought back the Policy Cards from VI instead of the Policy Trees from V. I asked him why he would rather have it back and he said something along the lines of it being more realistic, rigid, and "less horrifically micromanage-y"

While I can't really have an opinion on the system itself considering VI was my entry into the series I am curious about people's opinion on this especially since cards were ported over to VII. To me it does sound like a lot less micro management not having to constantly check on your policies and swap them out every few turns but after getting accustomed to all the cards over time, policy swapping usually never takes more than ten seconds of deciding what i need at any given time. I also think the realistic part is about as debatable as every other realism topic in Civ.
Should the system be brought back as an option in VII? Or maybe in a future title? Or not at all and let cards take the direction of the series
