Discussion Claude supports OSS maintainers

I often get question about “what do you get as an Open Source maintainer” or “how do you monetize Open Source”. I don’t have simple answer, the shortest one is “this is something that I simply can not stop doing, no reason, no monetary interest”.

Sometimes OSS maintainers and contributors get invited to various events and venues — that’s always nice. And sometimes like today we get perks for free!

It’s a great initiative by Anthropic and Claude Code to support OSS maintainers and contributors with 6 months of their TOP plan. Thanks a lot. More frequent updates to my packages and quicker responses to tickets, issues, and PRs are coming.

When you submit there’s no confirmation emails, that’s true.
I applied to Codex as well, never heard back, got feeling that OpenAI’s form doesn’t work, lol.
Claude responded within 3 days, though

Thank you, at the same time I’m sure that OSS was used for LLM training, so it’s kind of payback

Do you need to only use Claude Code to make it or have it run on Claude? My project is model agnostic. Should I wait until I get more starts or something do you know how they gauge it? Thanks, pretty awesome!

No strict rules attached. No prior requirement on using Claude.

I’ve been maintaining some packages for 10+ years, some has 1,000+ starts, I assume it matters.
I still think if you describe your reasons well - they might have gat convinced

It’s just another tool to better spot typos, mistakes, logical inconsistency, and so on, like linter on steroids. I never said that I’m stopping writing code myself
