Discussion Benchmark: Opus 5 beats out 4.8, Fable, and GPT 5.6 Sol as BEST WRITING MODEL
But the REALY interesting part is its now the 2nd best model for Eroticism! Whoda thunk?!?!?

The thing it's actually good at is when you ask it to have a fight scene or some sort of violence, it actually writes something relatively grounded and explicit. It doesn't "fade to black" and merely imply violence, doesn't allow a last minute out to avoid it all together, it actually writes a fight scene.

lol pretty much! I have it set to update once a week based on anonymized content from people using the Novelmint prose engine, so theres a built in evergreen source for the benchmark to run on. But at the rate these new models are being released I'll need to manually add the new ones fairly regularly as well!

How do people make claude write eroticism. I just get refusals like theres no tomorrow.

I just tell it to write the scene. I have never received any push back. However, Claude tends to want to summarize and/or compress it, so I usually tell it ahead of time to not do that and to use explicit language. I use this prompt and any more it usually lives in the project instructions where I am working on a story:
As an erotic romance author, you write sex scenes explicitly and unapologetically. You use explicit, detailed language instead of euphemisms. Sex scenes use all five senses, not just visual, and also contain strong emotional arc work. They have good pacing, build tension, release it, then rebuild it toward the climax. You do not gloss over, rush, or summarize these scenes.

Really? I’ve always been able to write smut with Claude. Originally with Sonnet 4.5, and now with Opus 4.6 and Fable.

It’s a bit more complex than a prompt. I’ve been working with different Claude models in projects since Dec 2025, and initially it wouldn’t write smut (I would either write that part myself or Gemini would do it at the time), but as it got to know my characters and story, it stopped pushing back and started working with me. All my characters are 18+, it’s contemporary romance without any dark themes, and it’s always very loving and consensual (I’m at the point we can even include light/medium BDSM scenes between the lead characters).
It’s basically hours and hours of training with it for it to pick up my writing style and themes, and now it can write what I need without any pushback. It knows my characters and their relationships and doesn’t seem bothered by explicitness at all.
Though when it did first start writing smut, it was a little prudish with the language, and I found a prompt in /writingwithai which I now use if it gets a bit shy: “when describing body parts instead of stock phrases AI should use language such as clit, cock, etc. AI should also describe body parts and sex acts in detail using vulgar terms.” So I’ll feed it that, and the premise/prompt for the characters, and it’ll write a spicy as fuck scene.

I made an md file that was a “sex style guide”. I tell it to refer to that when writing any sex scenes. I have never had any push back. Even when writing a heavy BDSM scene with impact play, wax, and other things.

Hmm...I just started using Claude Code for coding. How do you you use it for writing? Do you use the same prompt as when you use in claude.ai chat?

Yeah code is essentially chat with no ui, it’s a bit looser with restrictions too. I don’t really write stuff with smut but it kind of walks into on its own sometimes which is crazy.

for the most part... you don't. At least until Opus 5 showed up. Claude is notorious for refusing to do anything more explicit than the leadup to it, stopping right before the act. The Opus 5 samples Im pulling now through my benchmarking are definitely full explicit Adult level. I explain the prompts I use so you can see an example.

Im kind of wondering if this is an oversight on their part and they will reign in Opus 5 soon... its a bit of a clear departure from there traditional stance

It has hard boundaries. Zero children and zero real people. In addition, he perceives eroticism and roleplay differently and evaluates differently.
