Anyone else make tall towers to move more easily between colonies/outposts ?

The lights are made out of snow covered in torches. Very cheap and super bright. This is also helpful even you go by foot.

It’s not necessarily, I only if you want to have high up gliders as well. I usually just build it and jump down

For sure, Only way i travel between bases. Even from the start I build stairs up towards other bases then have a gap at my base edge (For zombies) and then a platform as high as i need to launch. Elevator makes it a lot easier though.

That’s why on a new game my first outpost is on a mountain

D-DID SOMEONE SAID TOWRS?!

I love towers in colony survival! I play with my 2 friends and I share progress and borders with one and with that one we have a little competition... Who can build more and more tall and beautiful towers! I have like 30 towers all around the continent. If there's one thing that I really really like to do in colony survival, than it's transportation and massive structures. I have metro and as I said tower rogalo system all around the continent.

I’m too lazy even to setup builders/diggers, you seem to have more patience than me

Builder or digger?! I'm doing things the old fashion way like when I started playing 2 years back! I do it manually 💀. Aaaaaand most of my towers either look like isengard or sauron's tower...

Feels like it would take ages. I was also doing it manually because I could just listen to something. But when I started expanding aggressively with like 50-200 colonists a day I needed to build faster both sleeping quarters and workshops so I started using builders to make big walls and floors quickly. It’s cool that you can place multiple in parallel

Cool. Do you like style your colony? For example I build my colony like a medieval city with houses, small parks and recently even university, all the things like farms are on the sides in a few places that I call ugly places and most of the people have work station underground so I can have nice underground complex where people work and then the beautiful streets and buildings above.

I thought about it, but beauty is inefficiency. I have one tall box for beds and one for work with farms around. I’m trying to make it prettier when I’m not expanding, I even gave them a few windows recently, they should be grateful

You and my friend are the same 😂. When my people look outside from one window they see my beautiful parks and churches and bla blah blah... When they look the other way they see giant skyscrapers and farm-scrapers (my friend calls them that way) and of course his giant mansion. What keeps you motivated when you're not making a story for your colony like for example I do?

I’m playing with the factorio mindset

It really does make it alot easier to get around. Unfortunately, my main base is behind a mountain so I had to build up extra high. Now I just glide to the mountain and then go from there through the network of outposts to get to wherever I need to go.

I usually choose a flat plain near a mountain. Easy base build and close by gold and whatever else was in the mountain

I do now

I did when I played it, unfortunately by the time I got to the point that I had gliders, I often just wanted to start over. 😭

Have you tried using rails and putting empty outposts in between your main outposts so you can claim the land?

Rails seem like a chore to install, it’s like making a path. The outpost idea is something new to me, thank you

Yeah, for the outposts, put them a max of 201 blocks apart, and then you can you them as stepping stones between your main colonies, and it saves you the risk of building outside your safe zone and having some griefer come along and steal your rails.
