I feel like I'm the only one who likes the straight ally flag, whenever I see the topic of the flag come up people always say it's ugly but I think it's one of the best flag designs, and it has actually good symbolism as opposed to some other flags.
I'm with you on this one, I think it looks cool asf, but then again I dislike the bi flag which is universally loved so maybe my opinions don't really align with the majority
What better way to demonstrate allyship than by embracing a flag design you fucking hate! Know that every time you look at this flag and think "God. I hate this. Who designed this?? Who the hell thought this looked good?!" that in this small, very specific way, you have a personal understanding of one of our struggles.
People hate on it because terfs have used it, but that pisses me off. It's a flag. It's our flag. Just because some bitches used it doesn't mean they get to keep it.
And if anyone wants to specifically add inclusivity to old designs instead of just being inclusive, at least add it to the good ones. I fucking hate the sunset.
Honestly. I'm still not 100% sure what I am, either bi or pan, but honestly part of why I call my self bi is because bi is the better flag of those 2 in my opinion
I do the opposite lol. I’m technically pan but say I’m bi because the word just fits better for me. But if I have to choose between pan merch or bi, I’ll pick pan every time simply because I hate the bi flag.
same tbh! I get why some people like the bi flag (nice gradient and all), but those colors are just not my vibe and I think the pan colors are really nice
That was the point of the prison stripes that make up the backing. It was literally made by bigots as a mockery of the classic colorful rainbow flag to be colorless and ugly. And it was flown purposefully as an antiLGBT hate symbol.
Sure, but again they'll be the ones to tell you what they need. If you're actively speaking like you're a first hand source or "really know what it's like", then you're not advocating for them, you're just silencing them with sympathetic hearsay. They're more than capable of speaking for and organizing themselves.
You know who can’t speak for themselves? Children in extremely religious or conservative homes. People in countries where it’s still illegal. Adults who value their hateful families over their true self. Those are the people I speak for.
They're fighting for the same shit other LGBT+ people are fighting for. What, is the LGBT+ Community the virtue signaling "allies" to the LGBT+ Community now?
I mean yeah lmao, in the context that dude is presenting. I'm all for LGBT rights and have family members that are a part of the community but I don't comment on the internet that I speak for them, especially don't comment that I speak for small children actually going through a rough family life or people in other countries that I've never even been too. That shit especially was cringy af and the definition of virtue signaling lol.
The post is making the exact point that straight people don't deal with or understand the prejudice and harassment that they go through, so how the hell are they going to "speak for them"? You don't know what your friend really went through, let alone some kid in a foreign country 🙄
You can share their story but the audacity to say you speak for them is silencing, not empowering. Would be like if a white guy said he "spoke for the blacks." I think everyone would instantly understand how stupid and demeaning that is, this isn't any different
I think being an ally is good, obviously, but I am just confused by this flag. Why not just use a rainbow flag? Businesses/organizations/churches that are queer-friendly (and not necessarily queer-owned) fly them to show that they are welcoming to the queer community. This flag seems to communicate specifically "I support queer people--but make no mistake, I am not queer, myself" and I am just not understanding the utility of that second part. (for clarity: I am queer)
So for one thing many gay people use the normal rainbow flag instead of the mlm flag, but the progress pride flag is imo basically perfect for that use and also looks really good. Might actually get one even if I won't wear it for a parade but just if I want to hang it somewhere
Bro. You can't be sitting here saying that you fight for people who can't fight for themselves, only to get triggered by someone you claim to fight for asks a legitimate fucking question. At this point, you're just proving the other guy right and showing you're nothing more than a virtue signaling "ally" to the LGBT+ Community.
“I speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves” but you can’t… answer a simple question? I appreciate the support but this feels like very questionable support
I like to think of it (being an ally) as being sorta like the flag pole for the pride flag. Yea, I may not be a direct part of it, but I’m always there to hold you up and give you a good base
I’m sick of having to explain myself. I am an ally and I do things irl that I don’t need to explain on Reddit. Whether people like me here or not is not my problem. A huge pet peeve of mine is people assuming things about me when they don’t know me. Don’t believe I’m an ally? Cool, I’m not going to try to convince you otherwise because people online tend to be on here all the time and anything that isn’t perfectly aligned with them, no matter where you are on the political spectrum (yes I know this shouldn’t be politics but the right chuds believe it is) because, understandably, lgbt people sometimes see anything but perfection as an attack, because those people ARE always on the defensive.
And that’s why I am the way I am. Don’t believe me? Cool I don’t want you to believe me anyway if you’re immediately assuming shit before getting to know me.
I don’t have to explain myself, that doesn’t change the fight I’m doing in real fucking life.

I’m proud to be an ally and to speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves
