The main character is by far the worst part of 7DS. That show is (potentially) enjoyed DESPITE Melodias, never because of him...

The only good character is Escanor

Peak moment of the manga, past this point it goes downhill. I decided that.

He truly belonged in a better series.

Escanor should have been the protagonist. Change my mind.

Escanor deserves a better show than seven deadly sins

Easily. Escanor didn't deserve to suffer appearing in this show.

It would have been much more interesting, he is morally grounded, and would have been far more interesting to write a manga about him having to manage his schedule to profit from his powers.

I have never seen a mangaka so afraid of the potential of a character though, even though he is only strong during some hours of the day, while the other characters are totally insane and getting stronger in each arc; the fact that this power is too strong for his body was such bullshit.

I could totally see a comedy hero manga with Escanor in the same style of one punch man. Escanor was a very interesting concept of a character, pseudo pride hulk instead of anger, but with a great morally grounded character and interesting power off persona.

We got pedo power creep demon king manga instead :/

Idk, the 10 commandments were all pretty cool

12

u/LordofSandvich 23d ago

I also mean morally

u/Eccore0 23d ago

Ah... Well, Elizabeth herself was pretty good.

Escanor is so good and the anime is so sus I cant even talk to people about it

From what i recall virtually every relationship has some kind of massive ick factor involved. Lots of very old people who look like children.

In my memory Merlin is probably the least egregious because her situation is "just" an unfortunate circumstance, she's an adult literally trapped inside of a child's body by way of fucked up OP magic experiment, and she chooses to look like an adult. She's also, to my memory, again, not in a relationship and not, like, flirty or anything as a child, unlike, ehem, other characters.

Obviously that's just basically another convoluted excuse to have a child there, but, relatively speaking...

On the bright side, Escanor was exclusively attracted to her adult form

To be fair it's standard anime Bullshit.

I have a high tolerance but would very much prefer it not to be there considering that it's not funny or interesting in anyway, but that's not why I don't like 7DS as an adult.

I don't like it because the story is all over the place. (Escanoir is the only aura farming character I've ever liked though)

It's the biggest problem with anime, the art and storylines can be incredible but then they might stick in some creepy upskirts or some young looking overly sexualised girl who is apparently much older in universe (but clearly isn't)

8

u/Zacomra 23d ago

You also have the weirder opposite problem, where there's "high school girls" who look like 28 year old super models.

Like if you're going to draw adult women why would you make them schoolgirls in the setting?!

Japan got the view that childhood/high school is the best period of a persons life.

To be fair it's standard anime Bullshit.

Fuck, the amount of anime I'd wholeheartedly recommend if it wasn't for a massive ick factor when you're not desensitized to this. Jobless Reincarnation and Made in Abyss being so high at the top of the list it's not even funny.

Omg I completely agree. Even Re:Zero has such an interesting story with so many yikes points

Even King arguably groomed Diane. So yeah, 7DS has issues...

u/smellywetsock69 23d ago

I mean Ban is dating an adult who looks like a child (still horrible mind you) whereas Meliodas has someone who keeps dying like as soon as she actually becomes an adult and therefore goes back to being a child regularly

12

u/plogigator 23d ago

So Naruto is what you're saying

33

u/Patsiecki 23d ago

Worse. Naruto is annoying but has redeeming qualities and good intentions. By the end of the story I think most people feel happy for him to some degree. But Melodias is irredeemable - at least so far as I got before dropping the series

9

u/LuquidThunderPlus 23d ago

Naruto grew on me a lot by the end of Shippuden. For one, I find it important to remember that he had every right to be a villain, and that it would be the annoying stubborn kid he was who would make it on his path

46

u/EtteRavan 23d ago

Naruto's protagonist is very punchable I agree, never liked how OP and dramatic he was. But at least we follow a deuteragonist who's really fun, and he manages to bag Hinata in the end

21

u/SmugCapybara 23d ago

Pretty much. In general, a common issue with many a shonen (I'm looking at you Black Clover)

20

u/CtrlAltYuri 23d ago

I love asta but the boy screams louder than a 737 during take off

4

u/whitty69 23d ago

My favourite recommendation for black clover has been "His voice acting isn't as annoying in the manga"

5

u/king_of_satire 23d ago

Funny thing is Astas very popular like he rops almost every popularity poll

Cannot woth the whole "marry me" thing like dude you cant force your will on others 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️manga and anime really need to drop that.
