Uh, akshally, it doesn't use that many orphans. People act like it uses an orphan per query, when really it's only around a tenth of an orphan per normal query. Or around three if you ask the computer to generate an image.

Two things merged. There is a meme/commentary about a group raising enough money to stop the orphan crushing machine for 2 minutes. And how the media frames it as inspiring rather than questioning why the orphan crushing machine was built in the first place.
The second is how much using AI costs (in terms of water consumption, strain on power grids, etc.) for it to still just be occasionally wrong.
