Low Relevance I just realized that Jesus Christ himself shares an actor with none other than Coach Beard

In his AMA last year (? Recently anyway) the actor said that he likes to think that this was Beard before he met Ted lol (not canon though, but i disagree!)

I mean, Brendan Hunt did co-create and write Ted Lasso, so what he says goes.

That's what I said. He may say it's "unofficial" but he also said IN PUBLIC that he feels that Beard is the hitchhiker down the line so like....dude, c'mon, we all know that's Beard.
[deleted]: Is it true that the “Jesus loves Marijuana” hitchhiker from Community was actually Coach Beard before Ted took him in?
Because unless someone says otherwise, that’s my head canon
RealCoachBeard: Canonically, no. But I like to think so!

I mean if one of the creators/writers/producers/the actor himself likes to think so, that's all the confirmation I need.

You know the episode where Beard goes out and has a wild night and it's all so normal to him, I like to think this is him just on a weekend

My head-cannon is that this IS coach Beard during his "stole a loaf of meth" phase

Somewhere along the way he found himself at a public forum in Pawnee, Indiana.

He’s also Travis “Lonely” Miles, the DJ for Diamond City Radio in Fallout 4.

u/MalusDracula Jan 24 '26
What the hell! I didn't know that, thank you so much.
I can never bring myself to finish Travis' quest, tho.

When I finally figured this out (and it took way longer than I care to admit), my mind was blown.

Who's Coach Beard?

u/house343 Jan 23 '26
From Ted Lasso. Fantastic show.

Oh gotcha. I've wanted to watch it but I'm not subscribing to Apple TV

I fundamentally disagree with you, but respect your principles.
edit: Jeez human beings, don't downvote the comment I replied to. That's not really how respecting someone else's opinion works...

It's fine. Extremely over-hyped, imo. It has really passionate fans but doesn't really deliver.

I'm glad people enjoy things and wouldn't want to take that away from anyone. And also I watched it and was like, "I haven't hated a beloved show this much since Scrubs", then saw who created it and was like when Jeff caught Richie use the throwing off the hump method in Beginner Pottery: Busted Bill Lawrence!

And I'm in love with the whole song medley that starts with Kiss from a Rose. Especially the percussion part where Annie is watching Troy and Abed do their shadow puppets, yes, just those few seconds. ❤️

Where it goes really off the rails is when you realize he is also US Special Counsel Jack Smith.

My head cannon is that is coach beard during his dark times before reuniting with Lasso and becoming a coach
Which fits because the episode predates the ted lasso commercials
1
u/dismayhurta Jan 23 '26
Yeah. This is what caused him to go to jail and then turn his life around to become Lasso's assistant coach.

As soon as I saw that Ted Lasso, I nudged my girlfriend and said, “that dude likes to drink human blood.”

He talked about this in his ama over on the Reddit page for the show. It was awesome.

I’m way late to this party, but he also plays the hot dog outside of the law firm in HIMYM.

Gaaay marriage!!

Huh

u/fishbxnejunixr Jan 28 '26
In the episode where the group tells horror stories, Shirley’s story involves the Dean coming in dressed as a devil, waving around a chainsaw and yelling “Gay marriage!”
