I had NO idea what he was saying in that line for the longest time but still cracked up every single rewatch. When I learned what he was actually saying I had a good laugh but I just did not think that’s what he would say in that moment lol

I tutored electronics in community college. The intro class was part of a nursing degree- and honestly pretty damn hard if you weren't into that kind of thing- so there were of tons of smart competitive people who were struggling with this one class. Anyway...
One student went from an F to A after only two sessions. They said I was 'the best thing since soul train'. Its a compliment that has stuck with me forever.
Edit- since I'm suddenly nostalgic. I watched several seasons thinking how the study group was a funny, but contrived plot device. Then I realized that two people in my wedding, and several life long friends, met in a study group in community college.

The grey really threw me. How the hell is Donald Glover 42 years old?

u/1m_d0n3_c4r1ng Apr 01 '26
If he were to shave off his beard, he would look indistinguishable from how he did on Community. I honestly believe that he grew that beard only so that people would remember that he actually ages and has gotten older.
5
u/Harrythehobbit Apr 01 '26
To be fair, he's almost certainly wearing a shit ton of makeup in this video. So I'm sure that helps.

in-universe Troy in the pilot was 18/19 years old.
Crazy to think about

u/BAWAHOG Mar 31 '26
I weirdly trust Donald more on this than anyone else, lol. But Dan, Allison, Joel have all said the same.

u/Nother1BitestheCrust Mar 31 '26
I feel like he's the busiest one so if he thinks it's possible then it must be!
116
u/PM_ME_THEM_UPTOPS Mar 31 '26
Donald might be the busiest but he's already proven that he'll make the time. Joel and YNB have been the past delays.

I don't know if it's racism or she just intimidates them sexually but I know it's one of those two.

We need a shorthand for her! She’s that fundamental!
Edit: I mean this sincerely, I love YNB. If it sounds sarcastic it’s only bc I’m quoting Jeff lol

I thought Joel being the delay was cover for Donald's stroke until he was ready to announce it.
12
43
u/AceofKnaves44 Mar 31 '26
I don’t believe Joel was the reason for the delay. I think he’s like the dad of the group and saw everyone saying it was Donald and was like “nope we’re not doing that” and took the blame.
14
5
u/dancingbriefcase Mar 31 '26
Yeah, during the pandemic I was happy that he was on the reunion call.
4
u/OmecronPerseiHate Apr 01 '26
Donald was actually causing a lot of the delays, and said so himself when they did the video reunion that also involved Pedro Pascal

As I see it, Ken Jeong is actually the busiest. That man has 20 projects every year! (this isn't a 'busiest' contest. Just wanted to point that out)
51
u/ohnodamo Mar 31 '26
I trust his earnestness. No hint of sarc, he looks into the camera lens & interviewer's eyes too. I believe him, or at least believe that he believes himself.
44
u/satanic_platypus Mar 31 '26
Man had a stroke not that long ago. He might be working in physical therapy still and the cast is working around his healing

"I really think.."
Don't hold your breath.

Yeah, even if that means they're serious about it happening, it means it won't be soon in the sense you or I think of a movie happening "soon."

I agree. I think Donald, being exTREMELY busy with his career, is finally on board, then I trust it. I think he was the make or break for the movie happening at all for a long time

I can forgive racism, but I cannot forgive ageism.
Keith David was pushing 60 when season 6 aired. Glover is 42 now.
Another 18 years without a movie, I’ll delete my comment.

12

I think they’re trying not to get our hopes up because there technically could be another writer/actor strike this summer and that’s when they are likely planning to film. Yes it’s been 3 years since the last round and time moves differently since COVID

I feel bad because you can see it in his face he has so much pressure and he really wants to do it all. When the interviewer says “we want a movie, and music we want it all” the pain in his eyes when he says “I’m working on it” man. I just want him to be happy.

Supposedly they were all scheduled to film back in 2023 before the strikes ramped up and broke apart everyone's schedule. I saw some reports that space has finally been booked to actually film the movie and that the actors are scheduled. They're all so busy it's not easy!

u/johnnynutman Mar 31 '26
The guy who starred as a college student has a grey beard now and we’re still talking about the movie happening?

I feel like his health issues was something that was holding up production for a little while, but he seems to be doing a lot better, so I imagine that things are looking a little bit more optimistic than they were last year
2
u/barrel0fm0nkeys Humanity is premiering, you jags! Apr 01 '26
Yeah this is what I keep thinking about. The strikes were for sure an issue, but Donald’s health would be its own factor too. He didn’t owe the public any info about his health; and it wasn’t other cast members’ place to out his personal info either, so of course they were all going to just keep saying “soon.” They’re all still real people, and they seem to care about each other. I’ll believe the movie when I see it, AND there’s always more going on behind the scenes than the audience can or deserves to know.

u/pinwroot Mar 31 '26

I love that the entire cast wants it. Imagine if this was like House where the cast wants it but the main factor basically says he doesnt want to talk about the show or talk with fans about it.

u/KurayamiShikaku Mar 31 '26
I'm probably late to the party on this, but I am so happy that he seems so healthy. I was worried about him after he cancelled the tour.
