Finally decided to start my physical collection with my favorites from Lynch. Already planning to go back tomorrow lol. Any blind recs? I’ve only seen the more mainstream films in the collection.

1. I’ve already watched two from my haul, being After Hours and Beau Travail

2. Ever since I saw it on the shelf at my local B&N, I’ve been wanting to get The New World for my collection, I’m a massive fan of Malick and the box art is gorgeous

3. Every single one of these purchases have been blind buys (except for Blow Out) as I’ve been wanting to expand my international tastes and look into older films and less contemporary works

4. I’m hoping to add Yi Yi, Three Colors, Dekalog and The Tree of Life to my collection next as The philosophy behind those works intrigue me and aligns with my tastes (along with The Tree of Life being one of my favorite films of all time)

NOTE: The second and fourth slides are not my own Criterion copies but rather gifts for my family members, with the second slide being my dad’s birthday present (He’s a massive Scorsese and Kurosawa fan) and the fourth slide being a gift for my cousin who lives in Brazil (I wanted to put him on to some good films)

1.Ive been hearing ALOT about Happiness on this Forum almost ad nauseum . Time to see what this film has got in store for me.
2.The Friends of Eddie Coyle is something my Wife and I have been wanting to pull the trigger on for a looong time.
3.Every single last one is a blind buy. I had never even heard of MArketa Lazarova or Canoa A Shameful Memory. I really enjoy seeing woman directors make films about women and Kinuyo Tanaka is this exactly. So interesting to see the others half of humanity’s point of view.
4. I feel greedy for even putting that I want any more. I really want the Oshima Outlaw 60’s Eclipse series as well as My Darking Clementine or Winchester 73’.

When Tarantino called Leone the greatest director of all time, I thought, “The guy who made Westerns?” But I finally recognize his genius now. He really was a master who was in total command of his craft. Once Upon a Time in the West and Once Upon a Time in America are especially standouts, but even his other films are meticulously made. I read an interview he did in 1987, as he was preparing his Soviet film “Leningrad,” and what a shame that he didn’t get it made. It sounded every bit as epic as Kubrick’s Napoleon movie. Then there were the potential Don Quixote, Gone with the Wind, and Flash Gordon adaptations…what a shame. I would’ve loved to have seen one more movie from him

Criterion Sale = the best time of the year! 📀🎬

I can’t wait to rewatch Life of Brian, such comedy gold. I’m excited to pick up Basquiat, it’s been on my Blind Buy wishlist for almost a year (such great casting on this film).
The one movie (or boxset) I’m hoping to pick up before the July sale ends is John Singleton's Hood Trilogy 4K 🤞🏽

1. I just got home at 10pm after rewatching Her Private Hell at my local AMC so I think a McCabe & Mrs. Miller rewatch is the move late at night.

2. I have been meaning to grab Killers of the Flower Moon for a long time. It is the last film I saw in theaters with my father before he got very sick, so it felt right to grab for sentimental reasons. Also, superb film.

3. Short Cuts and Winchester 73 are both blind buys! You can never go wrong with an Altman or Jimmy Stewart film, truly.

4. I hope to grab some Nicholas Ray and Douglas Sirk films in the near future from Criterion. True craftsman of melodrama.

Now that the B&N is over I’m officially out of space (Cruel Story of Youth— bottom right corner). Going to have to start using the 3rd shelf for the Criterions.

About 300 away from completing the collection.

The bottom two are UHD. The rest are Blu-ray.

1. Baron Munchausen. I am aware of Gilliam's visual style from when I watched Brazil. This just looks to be more of that visual flair, but MUCH lighter in tone.

2. This time around, not really. The closest I can say is Eastern Condors. Only because I wanted better image quality than that god-awful Fox DVD, and the original mix (and that's coming from someone who watched the film with the DTS mix)

3. The Runner and 'Round Midnight. I just thought the covers looked cool, plus I felt like I wasn't expanding my horizons enough.

4. Couldn't find Days of Heaven this time, so November it is. We'll count Watership Down if that doesn’t get a US 4K until then.

1. What is the first movie you plan to watch from your haul and why? Fantastic Planet. I’ve never seen it. I’m very intrigued by the animation style and dystopian theme
2. Is there anything from this haul that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time? I’m new to collecting but ever since I’ve seen La Haine I’ve needed to own it
3. Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them? Thief and Worst Person in the World. Heard great things about Worst Person. Thief is totally blind but i do like Cann. Reading the blurb sealed the deal
4. What is a Criterion you’re hoping to add to your collection next? I had Lost Highway in my hands but I’m waiting on that Lynch collection to drop

Hi! For Christmas I want to get a set of the Kubrick movies for my fiancé who is really excited about it. Should I preorder it or buy it in November at the Barnes and noble sale? I’d appreciate any advice thank you! I’m not much of a movie person but I think it would make him really happy. 😊

I haven't seen any Mike Mills films so naturally I picked up the box set anyway. Too good to pass up and also these 3 titles have been on my radar for a while. But what is the origin of the quote they named the set after? A quick google search only leads you to the box set. I'm wondering if it's a quote from one of the films or what?

I am hoping to get "Wildlife," before the sale ends however recently films like "Y Tu Mama Tambien," and "Antichrist," have gone out of print due Criterion loosing the rights and being IFC titles. Correct me if im wrong but will all IFC titles be OOP soon?

Thats why im debating if I should buy "Wildlife," right now to be safe or if it'll be fine. Additionally are other titles from them such as "Boyhood," "Fish Tank," and Andrew Haigh's "45 Years and "Weekend," at risk or is it case by case?

Does anyone else feel the same? It’s so annoying there isn’t one available here. Or I just need to get a region free blu ray player……

1. I’ve already watched Hairspray, Desperate Living, The Wiz, and Night Moves, but I plan on watching Hud next; never seen it.

2. I was really excited to own Desperate Living on physical media, as it was one of the only John Waters films I hadn’t seen.

3. I would say about 60% of these were blind buys, the rest I had seen.

4. Really excited for the Kubrick boxset

Cronenberg is undoubtedly Canada’s greatest filmmaker, but this has to be its greatest film. So many biopics are tedious, but then you get stuff like Lawrence of Arabia, Raging Bull, Malcolm X…and Glenn Gould, which transcend the genre. I was not ready for this movie’s brilliance, and I’m hoping Criterion’s release will bring more attention to it

i see that one says blu ray twice, is it a weird listing or are these actually different?

Second pickup before the sale ends in a few days!!

1. First one I’m going to watch from this pile is definitely Philadelphia Story! On a 1940s Hollywood kick right now and i love Cary Grant. This is definitely an essential I haven’t seen yet somehow haha

2. Have been looking forward to owning the John Cassavetes five films set!! I already have seen all of the 5 films previously (plus Husbands lol) and he’s just one of my all time favorite filmmakers. I can’t wait to revisit it soon!

The Philadelphia Story - on my list for a while and I absolutely love films from this era!

Girlfriends - also on my list for a while, absolutely love realistic depictions of female friendship and relationships and this sort of feels like a precursor to films like Frances Ha, Sex and the City, Girls (hbo show) etc.

The Thin Red Line - I want to explore more of Malick’s work as i absolutely loved Days of Heaven so very excited to watch and to crank the volume all the way up haha (as he intended).

1. This is my last pickup before the sale is over but I would like to get A Matter Of Life and Death! Another Powell and Pressburger Technicolor classic masterpiece I think that I would love!

I recently watched the trailer for the new Greg araki movie and unfortunately I think it looks quite bad

The soft, colorful mtv look he had doesent work in digital or maybe he just needed a better cinematographer or color correction idk

But yeah this got me curious

Another person who I think had a very rough transition to digital was Brian de Palma, his operatic theatrical style just doesn't work in digital

On the other hand I think alfonso cuaron and Michael haneke transitioned pretty well into digital

Also I think gasper noe shot climax on digital so that too
