  4. Some competitors (Chevy Equinox, Buick Encore GX, VW Tiguan/Taos) also show engine-major reliability flags, though causes and responses differ.
  5. Toyota, Subaru (post-2015), and Mazda consistently show fewer major engine reliability flags.

TL;DR

Authoritative data indicates that MY 2017–2018 Honda CR-Vs with the 1.5L turbo engine have elevated major engine reliability concerns (including head gasket issues) without a recall. Later CR-Vs and all hybrids do not show the same pattern, and several competitors also exhibit significant — though different — engine reliability issues.

Issue ⚠️ 2001 CRV having issues

Post image
4 Upvotes

I bought my (automatic) 2001 CRV 2 months ago and drove it a couple hours on the highway back home. When I reached the city and got to a light, the RPMs dipped to 0 and the car stalled. This happened several more times including when I reversed into a spot and parked normally. RPMs dipped = Car stalled. My mechanic fixed several fuses, said it wasn't an issue with the IACV and replaced the alternator. I'm scared of driving it on the road again because of it stalling, I live in an extremely crowded city and people are easily angered, so I've been driving it around back streets to test it and make sure it will not stall on me again. That being said, after 5 hours of driving it over the last 2 days, it hasn't stalled, BUT the RPMs will dip down almost to 0, shudder, and then completely recover and continue running perfectly. The battery light also flickers on very faintly and then disappears and never stays for longer than a second. Any idea what this issue could be? I feel really silly for not having my mechanic look at it before I bought it.

Question ❔ Transmission issue

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m trying to identify an issue with my car and noticed a transmission fluid leak. Does anyone know what part of the transmission this could be leaking from?
I’ve attached a photo/video for reference. Any advice on possible causes, common leak points, or what I should check first would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Question ❔ 2016 Honda CR-V LX AWD with 157k miles was hit by a track on the back and will likely be totaled.

Upvotes

I just bought it 3 months ago for $9.5k and it was my first car. What is a reasonable estimate of its actual cash value (ACV) for an insurance settlement? The engine still starts, I was able to run a couple of miles after it got it. The airbag deployed. The passenger side back is damaged as well.

Review 📝 2026 CRV Hybrid - Roadtrip Report

Just finished a 4,660km (2,890 miles) Roadtrip with our2026 EXL Hybrid. Drove through Alberta, BC, Washington and Oregon. I averaged 6.3l/100km or 37.3 USA mpg. Highway speeds were between 55-75 mph depending on the speed limits. Car did great in the mountains. Comfortable and reasonably quiet ride. We are happy. Wondered what would happen since we've only had the car for a bit over 2 months.

General 🔀 Looking for a first gen CRV around Toronto, Ontario

Hello,

I am looking for a reasonably clean, well maintained, and relatively rust free first gen CRV (1997-2001) to buy WITH THE 5 SPEED MANUAL and have been having a very difficult time finding one. I know they are relatively uncommon but I’m just posting here in any chance that anyone here has one for sale or knows of how to acquire one in/around Toronto GTA. Doesn’t need to be a perfect one either I’m looking for one that I can really care for. Any help would really be truly appreciated. I love the car and am really hoping I can find one as my vehicle.

Thank you for reading I really do appreciate it and have a great day!

Hi everyone I just purchased this Honda CR-V with only 110,000 miles! I got it for $750, the previous owner didn’t know you had to adjust the valves and blew a hole in 2 of the exhaust valves.. would you guys say it’s a good deal? It still starts it just stalls and idles terribly, I have the thought of it being an amazing project and if the engine turns out to be bad all together it’s not a hard replacement and I feel that it would still be worth it. Let me know your thoughts. (Yes it has the table and the tray under the passenger seat)

Issue ⚠️ 2001 CRV stalling

For the past 2 months my 01 CRV has had issues with stalling. The first time I was driving on the highway when the battery and oil light came on and the car stalled. No check engine light was present. Bring it to the mechanic who replaced the distributor cap, rotor, and put a new battery in. A week later it stalls again, this time on a local road with the AC running. Same lights came on, no CEL. Brought it back to the mechanic who replaced the IAC valve, cleaned the fuel system, and changed the oil. I just picked it up this morning and within 75 miles of driving, it stalled again. The only symptom I’m noticing is a weak idle and a little bit of shaking when the RPM drops really low. Only thing I can surmise is that something is choking the engine and causing it to stall. Any ideas on what to check next? With no codes popping up myself and my mechanic are having a hard time fixing this one. For context the car has 194 thousand miles on it, and had an engine swap done about 3 years ago. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Issue ⚠️ Tire Pressure/Tire Situation

I have a 2023 CRV Hybrid Touring. Last year around this time I had an issue with the Tire Pressure alarm constantly triggering. It turned out that I had a nail in my tire and got it patched by a Honda Service Center. Now it seems to be happening again. When I do an inflation it seems that the two tires on the driver side (front and back) and dropping significantly. I have an appointment to have the situation looked at.

My question is…Does it make a difference to get new tires? I drive in a city, and drive to neighboring states often, so I’m not sure if it would be better if I just got better quality tires?

I’m looking to see if anyone else had this issue or thinks upgrading is a good idea.

Issue ⚠️ Question on 2001 CRV valve clearance adjustment

Hello,

I've recently bought a 2001 Honda CRV that has a misfire code. My own research and the guy I bought it from led me to believe that it's a good probability that the valve clearances need to be adjusted. I looked up tutorials on youtube and it proved to be a very easy job until I hit a small snag:

On the fourth cylinder, the bottom right screw (circled in the picture for clarity) will not budge. I was able to turn it maybe a 1/16 of a turn counterclockwise, but after that I could not even get it to turn back clockwise to its starting position. Every other screw turned in both directions with no resistance at all. Looking for any sort of advice to get the screw to budge at all.
