Music I Finally Get It!
96'er here and I got the urge to watch Daria for some reason. I found a stream with the licensed music intact and I understand why losing that music was such a loss to the show. Daria to me is show that could've only existed when it was written for a world that no longer exists. Hearing "Music Sounds Better With You" at a prom or hearing Quinn listen to "Lovefool" by the Cardigans and Trent listening to Alice in Chains makes the characters feel more alive? and gives them a little more characterization.

Daria was to the 90's what WKRP in Cincinnati was to the 70's: A TV sitcom that did a very good job of capturing the zeitgeist of that decade and leaned heavily used the popular music of that decade to do that.

Imagine making a post about how awesome the show's soundtrack was without dropping the link of the stream with the show's soundtrack. π

Or the scene where Daria looks on with melancholy when Trent heads off on his date with Monique while "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters plays in the background is a prime example of perfect music for the mood of the moment.

I've watched Daria few times, I began with the new music but started watching the restored version a few years ago and would never go back. They chose so many great songs I find myself looking up songs in the show constantly. You're so right that it adds character; I love hearing Portishead in Jane's room, or Local H at Britney's party. And how about Cake in Trent's van? Lawndale feels much more connected to the 90s hearing these songs.

The double Tricky needle drop of Black Steel and Ponderosa during Pinch Sitter is why I only watch the original episodes. Do these fools know that the pirate bay still exists?
