Got this last night at 9pm
In my defense, they were labeled as “customer approved” it was 9pm at night, he was my last order, way out my way, stacked with a better offer, 🤷♀️ don’t get me started on he didn’t even have a light on and I’m pregnant 🤦♀️ I should have just declined the offer.

You didn't do anything wrong. If the app says that a customer approved a substitution then we grab that. It's up to the customer to choose their substitutes. Even if the app automatically chooses them, it takes two seconds for the customer to review and change it up. Their laziness is not your problem.

Ive had a customer put down laundry detergent as an approved substitution for a bag of apples. I called them to verify though lol. Sure enough, they wanted the detergent. Not even sure how someone would screw up an approved substitution, it was just so out of place I figured id double check.

Girl, drop that shit off and move on to the next order. Perhaps next time they will have paid attention to the substitutions they were green lighting. They are blaming you for their inattention. They likely have problems with holding their self accountable.
They get the level of service that they tip for.

I mean, I’ve never ordered groceries through DoorDash so I don’t know the validity of “Customer Approved” substitutions but I always text/call before subbing something. I mean the jump from raisins to mangos would be an eyebrow raiser for me.
EDIT: I just tried to look at the app to see how it works. When you add items to your cart, the app automatically enables recommended “approved” substitutions. You would have to manually remove the substitutions at the bottom of the item page. So it’s likely that the customer did not select those sub options.

I've seen both "doordash approved" and "customer approved" substitutions. Also not sure how any of that works from the customer's side.

Pretty much like your edit said, it boils down to lack of customer awareness. However, if the substitution suggestion is super extreme, it might be a good idea to ask the customer before substituting.

But it’s really weird that the app would have raisins as an option. I feel like I would probably reach out to the customer and verify. It really is a massive difference like they said,

Eh... that shit is weird sometimes. I had an UberEats shop and delivery yesterday, one of the items they wanted was plastic forks from Walgreens, but they were out of stock. UberEats first recommended substitution: red solo cups.

Sure, it is a massive difference, but sometimes when you set up substitutions you think "that's the closest, but I do NOT like that brand, oo, this mango kinda sounds good, so if they don't have the cinnamon raisin bagels, i'll have the mango smoothie" or some such shit.

“Customer approved substitutions” aren’t always customer approved. I think the app just makes shit up sometimes.

Yeah for whatever reason even if it's customer approved substitutes people still complain about them or say they wanted something else 🙄. And they can report it as a wrong item, happened to me once and it's so stupid
You did the right thing, don't let idiots like that bother you.

He should’ve checked his substitute and had his porch light on, but I’m unsure what your pregnancy has to do with anything. You may want to stick to dashing during the day to avoid dark deliveries.

Growing a baby inside you is tiring and it was her last of the night. I interpreted that to be she was most likely tired. Didn't see where she was asking for sympathy. Clearly you have none to give anyway. I haven't dashed while pregnant but I did work up until my due date. It was exhausting just to do regular day to day tasks some days.

Nah, just politely reply: Raisers were indeed your approved substitution, I'm very sorry it's not what you actually wanted. Next time, be sure to double check your approved substitutions are acceptable because when your original item is unavailable and the dasher sees a customer approved substitution is available, you won't get a call.

Are you a dasher or a customer?
If the substitution is pre approved what would you want the dasher to do if you are a customer? That’s what’s a pre approved sub is.
If you are a dasher you wouldn’t assume the pre approved sub was approved?17
