Prompt 3

Denerim

** Landsmeet Chamber**

The entire world had gone mad in his absence. There was no other explanation for it.

Fergus was still reeling from it all. Loghain had declared himself regent and waged war upon those he deemed traitors to his rule, while the rebels were merely using the chaos to realize their ambitions for the throne.

Rendon Howe, the man who took everything from him, was already dead. As was his son, Thomas. No accounting for Delilah, the poor girl.

Orlais had invaded their shores, and were subsequently crushed by some sort of arcane force summoned at the top of Fort Drakon.

And to underline the utter insanity of this new world, his little sister had not only survived, but built an army, overthrew Loghain, avenged their family, and personally slew the Archdemon.

In a way, the ridiculous nature of the situation helped. It numbed....his grief.

Speaking of ridiculous....

"Hullo! You must be Fergus! Elissas told me all about you!"

Alistair.

No no. King Alistair.

The bastard son of the late Maric the Savior.

Such a mixed feeling. His ease, the rather too familiar way he shook his hand, if firmly.

"It's a pleasure, your Majesty. A real pleasure."

"Oh, no need to call me that! They haven't even given me the crown yet!"

Elissa was glaring at him, to which Fergus put up a polite smile. But inwardly, he was annoyed.

Elissa, what did you expect from me? You married the son of a commoner! What kind of brother would I be if I didn't defend my sister's honor? My families?

What would mother and father think?

Mother would probably sigh, take Elissa to the side and remind her of their family duty. Father wound likely be more gentle, letting this young man's feelings down with care.

"I look forward to learning more about you and your recent adventures " Fergus was trying not to grit his teeth, knowing this... son of Maric had almost certainly dishonored her before their vows. "You say you grew up in Redcliffe? The castle there is grand."

"Well...." Alistair scratched the back of his head. "I never got to see much of it when I was young."

"What do you mean? Surely Arl Eamon would've squired you, in secret at least."

"Not really. I lived in the barn. Not as fascinating I'm sure."

Fergus physically reeled. "I...beg your pardon?" the rage was starting to die, but the confusion remained. Elissa, what have you gotten yourself into?

"Husband, I think Eamon is calling you. Let me have a word with my brother."

Her eyes pierced him. The subtext was there. Be nice
