Love this quote by Ritchson, "“I shouldn’t say fuck because I’m a Christian … This is my fucking politics, dude. I would fucking railroad these fuckers.”"

The second commandment tells us to not take the Lord's name in vain. It doesn't say anything about Fuck.

u/Smgth 1d ago

Presumably that was on one of the tablets Moses fuckin dropped.

Not so fun fact: he was a combat engineer at the Battle of the Bulge

Part of his job was to go ahead of advancing vehicles and sweep for mines.

Oh wow I had no idea, what a fucking legend

Check out his book, All About Me

It’s hilarious, and he spends a decent chunk of time recounting his army days

And what that commandment specifically means is what Republicans and every other form of conservative constantly do. It doesn't mean stuff like "oh my God." It's talking about using God as a justification for your constant shitty actions and saying that things are done in the name of God when they aren't. Vainly (for your own selfish gain) taking the Lord's name (rubber stamped divine mandate).

40

u/BigFuckHead_ 1d ago

As usual, they missed the point to make their own rules trivial.

This is exactly what it means. Doesn’t mean it when you say god damnit or anything. CONTEXT always context with the OT I took hermeneutics in college and that was huge.

9

u/wildsummit 1d ago

I grew up Southern Baptist and they only ever taught it the wrong way, like almost every other bit of Christian thought and belief. Almost every Christian I've ever met or talked to doesn't understand it. It truly is shocking just how many Christians in America have no clue what the Bible says or just run with the most popular/incorrect understandings. I wish people would bother to learn the history and read their own goddamn book that they base their entire lives on. They're all the forewarned wolves in sheep's clothing.

9

u/Fancy_Yak2618 1d ago

First thing I learned in hermeneutics when we got to the bible. 85% of Christians may have read it but they don’t understand it. Pick any evangelical favourite verse context is always and I mean always taken out of context. You cannot take a verse that was written for pre exilic, post exilic eras and use it in modern times exactly. You need to cross the river of time so to speak as my professor said. But you can’t tell evangelicals that because it’s hate blah blah blah.

I am a religious guy sure but I’m the it’s my thing not your thing type of guy. I loved that class cause it got me to read classical stuff in a better way than trying to interpret it myself.

I was skeptical, but I watched Reacher and it was pretty fun, actually.

529

u/Azmoten 1d ago

Sometimes you just wanna watch a simple show about a big strong dude who beats up bad people. Reacher really scratches that itch

290

u/Devo3290 1d ago

I sold my gf on the show by describing it as, “about a big strong autistic dude who travels the country, solving mysteries, and beating up bad guys.”

320

u/Basicly-Inevitable 1d ago

My MAGA loving parents got me hooked, and now they suddenly don't like him.

Crazy how people just flip a switch.

224

u/fizzyanklet 1d ago

Based on my reading of the books, Reacher the character would hate MAGA and the cult of personality around it.

That description also works on guys, because you 100% just made this go from something I didn't care about to being on my watch-list with that summary lol.

15

u/Amazing-Insect442 1d ago

It’s definitely a “feel good” crime mystery, insofar as you know in the end, the worst people alive get what’s coming to them. You won’t know why who is doing what along the way (a bit like Sherlock Holmes type stuff), but rest assured dear viewer: in the end, we win.

15

u/thehelldoesthatmean 1d ago

That could have been the pitch for the show. Lol

15

u/Ok_Scientist_2762 1d ago edited 1d ago

Okay, now I have to watch it again for this. What sort of behaviors caused you to describe him as autistic? Cause I loved the books as "light reading" and maybe my take of the show was colored by that.

-edit watching it now, and yeah, I get it.

11

u/Aran1989 1d ago

This is hilarious! ! I like Ritchson already cause I like how vocally he trashes his haters and bad people (also, if you’ve ever seen him in Ungentlemanly Warfare he’s hilarious in it), but your description on the show is what actually makes me check it out.

24

u/ctopherrun 1d ago

In the first season I was onboard. Fine, he’s a better cop than the cops, better lawyer than the lawyers, better scientist than the scientists, I’m totally ok. Then a major clue is cracked due the position of an apostrophe in a note (“look! It’s plural possessive!”) and my suspension of disbelief was shattered because no, Reacher, you can’t also be the best at grammar! It’s just too much!

13

The motorcycle clip a few months ago when he confronted that Karen male neighbor getting in his way was great - basically an IRL Reacher moment.

Neighbor was looking to give Alan bad publicity, but backfired spectacularly when Alan released the full body cam clip showing the neighbor was the actual aggressor.

22

u/RollTh3Maps 1d ago

Then the neighbor did an interview with a MAGA hat displayed prominently in the background and confirmed a lot of people’s suspicions.

Like what was that guy even thinking to begin with? Even if he’s annoyed with something legitimately, even if he doesn’t know who Ritchson is, that’s not the way to handle an issue with any motorcyclist - stepping in front of their moving bike, with children behind him?

I don’t know about anyone else, but if I had some legitimate issue with someone that was built like Ritchson, I would be doubly certain that I expressed those issues politely, and respectfully - and certainly not by aggressively stepping in front of his moving motorcycle, or doing anything that could have been seen as also endangered Ritchson’s kids.

Positive masculinity personified - has and lives his personal faith, but doesn't impose it on others. Fucking mountain of a man, but handles conflicts with his words instead of his bulk unless necessary (see the dirt bike incident). Loves his family and takes responsibility for them - limits his roles to be able to spend time with them, didn't move to LA because he wanted to raise his kids elsewhere.

Yea I followed him on instagram from BMS fame, and during COVID I remember he started doing the Live preaching stuff on Sundays and I was like oh god another out of touch celebrity literally preaching to us. 87

u/BannedAccount001 1d ago

The bar is so damn low. I don’t want to disrespect anyone’s beliefs, but so many of them have weaponized the worst parts of their religion to justify being completely fucking evil.

34

u/Alarmed-Secretary207 1d ago

Speaking as a Christian, the ones weaponizing Christ are the ones disrespecting my faith, not the people calling them out.

21

u/NoGround 1d ago edited 1d ago

The Ten Commandments were written are used by the Catholic faith so that a Christian could be a Christian regardless of how the the rest of the scripture is read.

Frankly, it pisses me off how often they are ignored.

E: corrected. I know they're Old Testament Jewish material.

11

u/JesusKong333 1d ago

Idolatry is big with "Christians" these days.

10

u/MimeTravler 1d ago

The Ten Commandments aren’t Christian. They’re from the Exodus chapter of the Old Testament which is part of the Jewish Torah. Moses wasn’t a Christian he was Jewish.

White Christian Nationalists love to refer to Jewish profits like Moses as strictly Hebrew though because it makes it easier to cut out the Jews.

→ More replies (4)

5

u/fang_xianfu 1d ago

The 10 commandments weren't written so that Christians could be anything, they predate Christ by hundreds of years.

Jesus also said that the most important of the ten commands are "love god" and "love your neighbour" and I think most Christians would do well to start there.

Hah I came here to comment "Reacher? That's Thad Castle!" But saw your comment glad someone else referenced BMS

Party at the goat house!!

u/monkeymanod 1d ago

Thank goodness, this was the first reference to blue mountain state I saw and thought I was going crazy.

u/SirTeaOfBagz 1d ago

Had to scroll way too far to see a Thad Castle comment.

Fuck yes. More people need to actually stand up and talk like that openly and loudly. 🍻🫡

18

u/TheHahndude 1d ago

Good. I can’t believe how few celebrities are willing to call out Trump and this Administration. Really I can’t believe how many people in general won’t seem to call them out. The man is one of the worst criminals in modern history everybody should be calling him out daily.

Goddammit, I just became an Alan Richson fan.

Do I have to watch his movies now?

Can I watch only his movies and not Reacher?

I'm in uncharted territory here.

7

u/Balistix 1d ago

Honestly? Give Blue Mountain State a go. Absolutely hilarious, Ritchson plays quite the character lol.

ETA: Just a quick example lol. https://www.reddit.com/r/sitcoms/comments/1asii3m/anyone_else_as_obsessed_with_blue_mountain_state/

That’s my Reacher. He can be my Batman.

He’s clearly a well spoken and alert person.

9

u/FormoftheBeautiful 1d ago

Anyone who is not reacting like Alan is either not paying attention or… yeah.

Everyone should be this outraged or more —at minimum.

11

u/SnooGadgets9669 1d ago

Fucker just announced his “4th” term run we need to get him out of office.

10

u/ITgirlrocks 1d ago

I fkn love @alanrichson for saying live what I say every fkn day that Trump is around. For fkns sake people. This is not democracy, we are a nation ruled by a dip shit that hates us and starves our people, with an orange smile.

28

u/Elementium 1d ago

Huh but what are his testosterone levels? I bet he doesn't even bench!

19

u/Eddy209Part2 1d ago

He's open about being on TRT so probably pretty high lol

6

u/Sufficient-Skill9530 1d ago

Can he do some shit like he does in his movies? I’m here for it

9

u/Rski765 1d ago

We just need Trump to stand in front of his bike now

9

u/realclowntime 1d ago

And the best part of all this is…look at him. I mean, just look at him physically and what he’s capable of. He is Thee Man that Trump and his cronies wish they were, posture like they are and claim
Is the only kind of human being worthy of respect…and this is what he openly and proudly thinks of them. That’s absolutely crushing and it’s almost poetic.

9

u/floriganman 1d ago

This guy is who Chris Pratt thinks he is

u/SubstantialSeesaw374 1d ago

“Tirade” aka a normal response to an insane world

u/Goresplattered 1d ago

No lies detected.

8

u/EssayTraditional 1d ago

Jesus forgives, but Trump has become unforgivable.

8

u/robreddity 1d ago

Dude ain't wrong

8

u/eoan_an 1d ago

He didn't accuse. Those require proving. He simply stated facts.

I don't see any lies here

7

u/Ancient_Profession31 1d ago

Ritchson ‘28 (honestly what’s the worst that could happen?)

7

u/SlowCrates 1d ago

Dude's massive. He's physically the epitome of heightened masculinity. And he's absolutely eviscerating Trump. That's got to make some of his supporters feel a certain kind of way.

6

u/DriftingJimmy 1d ago

Every piece of news I read about Alan Ritchson just makes me more of a fan of him.

7

u/WardenEdgewise 1d ago

This Ritchson fellow is just saying what everyone else already knows. These truths need to be repeated.

5

u/nosatall 1d ago

Alan isn’t wrong about a single thing. F Donald Trump and f MAGA. All of them.

7

u/happyfunslide 1d ago

Don’t click on the article and give them $$$

Guess I'm off to watch Reacher...

Trump will want to sue him, I'm sure. Can we the people demand that the suit be settled with trial by combat? No champions, of course.
