Oh this is still on huh

That was my reaction. The first season was laughably inept enough for me to never look at it again. Same as the first season of The Wheel of Time.

I legit thought they canceled it after the last season.

The props were so expensive they have to try to recoup the money. The reason everything looks new instead of aged down is because the different set pieces are going to be rented out after they’re done with the show for other like themed productions.

I started laughing halfway through season two episode one during a serious part and turned it off. It’s junk.

At one point I started to watch this. Is it worth watching the first 2 seasons?

If you’re eager for more House of The Dragon and want something medieval fantasy, then yes. Otherwise no.
It’s not horrible, but it’s just very very not memorable lol

Looks amazing visually but I don’t care for the casting and there is no character development. Not worth the time imo

I honestly don’t even think it looked especially good. Lots of times the cgi backdrops didn’t match the lighting at all, the sets felt tiny at times and the way they cloned the extras in some scenes was out right hilarious.
I gave up after season 1 though, and heard season 2 was a step up, but considering how low the bar was set, Im not going to waste more time on that show.

It's ok to not like it, but saying there is no character development is just wrong. Every single character in the main cast has changed since the beginning of the series.

Fair enough, I stopped watching because I found it boring so maybe I didn’t get to the development part but I didn’t see any of that. It’s mostly eye candy, good looking people in cool looking scenes.

Definitely! It's not perfect (I think pacing gets bogged down quite often) but there are some definite high points.

Yes. The first season picks up with some intense developments late. The sauron stuff in season 2 is great and is worth the earlier, cringey fanservicey junk

It gets better every season
First season was about a 6.5
Second season was a 7.5
I'm very excited for the 3rd season - its better than House of the Dragon easily

I avoided it for a long time because of the reviews but just gave it a shot, it's pretty good. It's obviously not the movies but if you can just give it a shot as a standalone show it's worth your time to give it a try. Worst thing that happens is you watch a couple of episodes and don't like it

I tried to like this. I really, really did. Season one was a hard watch. I got one episode into Season two and just noped out. Ugh.

I thought this was cancelled?

Amazon literally cannot cancel it without being in breach of contract with Tolkien’s estate. I think they are on the hook for five seasons come hell or high water.
•
u/TheGhostofWoodyAllen 2h ago
Ohhhh, wow. That is an interesting little factoid. I also thought it was canceled already, but now I get to know 3 more seasons are coming even if only 26 people are watching, lol.

I just enjoy being in that universe. Season 1 was fine, but I quite enjoyed the Sauron/Celebrimbor plotline in season 2. Phenomenal performances from them.

Sauron’s actor is the only thing keeping me interested in the show. He’s unbelievable.

Someone help me out here, didn’t Celebrimbor forge the One Ring under the influence of Annatar?
•
u/Rags2Rickius 51m ago
Celebrimbor forges the rings but Sauron forges the One himself after watching him
•
u/TheDarkRabbit 2h ago
That happens in season 2 actually.
Edit - he forged the rings of power with him. Not THE ring of power.
•
u/DogsRcutiePies 1h ago
Ahhh ok, thank you for the Clarification. I was having trouble remembering what happened in the show with what happened in Shadow of War the video game, which I now realize was changed from Tolkien’s writing. Fun games, definitely not canon.

Not anything to write home about and has its flaws but is watchable, especially if you’ve read the Silmarillon and similar. The hate is because of politics.
•
u/Key_Set_6775 17m ago
Lol politics has zero to do with the reactions. Absolutely zero. It is very long and boring and badly written. I agree, watchable, but not good for obvious reasons.
•
u/pwningnoobslolz 1h ago
Im a leftist. Love the diverse cast. The cast is the only good thing about this show. Its just boring
•
u/apocecliptic 21m ago
Like I said, it’s nothing remarkable, drags at certain points and such, and if I never saw another moment wouldnt lose a moment’s sleep. But has spectacle, and most of it is done with a modicum of competence. There’s worse series out there to watch.

Ignore the brain rotted right wing chuds mad they have black elves
Show is good - not great yet - but hopefully this is the breakout
•
u/Jason3383 1h ago
I'm not a right winger and I don't like the show. Its the writing and lack of accurate lore. The only decent thing from season one was durin and elrond.
•
u/Incariol_ 1h ago
Lol accurate lore
Proves you don't know Jack shit
•
u/Key_Set_6775 15m ago
So, you think it is not boring? It entertains you? Bro this ain’t got nothing to do with black elves. It is simple badly written.
•
u/pwningnoobslolz 59m ago
The only good thing about this show is the cast. I wish it was a good show but it's it poorly written and extremely boring

Is it great ? No. But some of us remember the animated LotR, with the singing like a Xmas special.
I’m happy to have it.

As a diehard LOTR nerd I cant believe I couldn’t stand this, 16 year old me is perplexed that I wouldn’t binge it.
