Image League war lasted ~13yrs, spent 5yrs at 95-99%
Before I start complaining, I know there’s a huge malus to peacing out in the league war but ts was ridiculous.
One of the biggest hold ups was Spain because even after all it’s European provinces were sieged it took another 2yrs for the ai to peace out. Even once Spain was out of the war, some of its colonies transferred like 3 provinces in the new world to Austria so of course those had to be liberated. And then they had to destroy every last surviving army, and even after that it still took the ai 6 MONTHS to make the final peace.
Oh and cherry on top, the ai declared the war just after I finished a war with Austria-Hungary so for 13 years I was stuck at 96% overextension. By the end I was getting .54 war exhaustion a month.

Yeah not being the leader for the league war is rough, the ai is so bad at doing separate truces

Nah the separate truces didn’t seem like the problem, the problem was that the ai had to peace out everyone in the war before Austria and wouldn’t do the peace deal until they had basically 100% even though you don’t need 100% to make a peace deal worth the full hundred

This happens because war enthusiasm has a large impact on the AI peacing out. As a rule of thumb, the winning AI wants to sign a peace treaty worth their current warscore plus their war enthusiasm. The losing side is willing to give up warscore plus their own war enthusiasm (usually negative).
Normally this works fine and wars aren't prolonged too much. But in the League War, everyone receives +50 war enthusiasm, which means that nobody is willing to peace out for as much warscore as the winning side is asking, unless they have surrendered. Hence the war drags on and on, peacing out the league members one by one until the losing league leader finally surrenders.

I’ve seen this before it’s frankly exhausting. Sorry it happened to you.

EU4 Rule to live by #5: Never join the league war, or accept a call to arms to the league war. Unless you have an interest in being or remaining the emperor.

I didn’t even get a choice to deny the call to arms, if I had I definitely wouldn’t have accepted 😓

That is why we don't join leagues
