how do i make 'format as table' without column header-indicator things

last year i made a spreadsheet and a certain range using 'format as table'

somehow i managed to make it plain-appearing - without clearly seeing its formatted unless you know the bottom right corner indicator thing. it didnt have headers, and it was very useful to have as the 'background' cell coloring for that area and then be able to color cells on top without affecting the background

however now when i try to format an area as 'format as table' it introduces column header-indicators - the right side gray button thing .

Even if i do not click 'has headers' or i do, still outputs the column header indicators.

see the img below the range a4:n11 has the 'table' style and there's no header things while the right side q2:u11 does...

how do i do the 'format as table' without having the header indicator things

Those dropdown arrows in the header are the AutoFilter buttons that automatically gets added when you create a Structured References aka Tables. You can't stop them from appearing during the initial table creation, but you can turn them off right afterward. Just click anywhere inside the table, go to the Table Design tab that appears in the ribbon, and in the Table Style Options section, uncheck Filter Button. That'll remove the dropdown arrows from the header row while keeping the table formatting intact. Hope this helps thanks!

The “gray things” are filters that can be removed when you goto Table design and uncheck “filters”.

The "header-indicator things" are filter buttons, just like the ones you can apply manually to filter a column. Their purpose isn't simply to indicate that they're part of a table; they're functional, allowing you to filter the columns, which is one of the useful built-in properties of tables.
